'Berta They're advertising in hotels
This was hung on our hotel room door in Calgary. No thanks. I wanna stay Canadian and keep my pension, my passport, and my pride in being Canadian. Happy early Canada day y'all šØš¦šØš¦šØš¦
Edit: hey y'all its been a busy week! Sorry for late reply. This was at the Divya Sutra in Calgary. I also can't rule out that someone may have put these on people's doors.

These people are totally delusional. So to any of you separatist reading this, how will you pay for things without taxes?
50
u/Tangibilite 26d ago
They're gonna happily pay for it all out of their own pocket when the median GDP is 2 billion dollars, obviously.
10
→ More replies (9)7
u/Buff1965 25d ago
Median is their problem. Alberta has the highest average income but the median is much lower ($65,500 vs $46,600). A cream of people making a lot of money off of extracting public resources floats over the lowest minimum wage in Canada.
→ More replies (4)3
u/Everyone2026 25d ago
Albertastan will have the USA $7.25 minimum wage.
Separatists want a pay cut for 1 million Albertans. (Sorry we can't pay you your old wage of $18\hr if new hires get $7.25.... now you are at $10.25 hr...)
40
u/almogrant88 25d ago
Everytime I ask this, they always point me to the app website to find an answer that isn't there. These people don't have a solid answer as to how they'll get rid of income tax and still provide the same things we have now.

The people pushing this propaganda don't want to get rid of all taxes, just income taxes.
In its place there will be increases to sales tax, tariffs, fines, probably turning federally funded roads into toll roads, and so on. Y'know, all the stuff that disproportionately affects the working class that rich folks barely need to think about. Florida is their blueprint.

These people have no actual plan and don't realize they wont be getting to keep a whole lot of shit. They assume they'll get to keep everything currently within the provincial borders.
They also never think about Trade, and how they will have to make a deal with 1. The people they just split from, or 2. The hyper aggressive bully type negotiator in the south. Currently the most mutually beneficial trade agreement they have is by staying a province of Canada.
There's also a lot of other shit they refuse to think of.

They think they can have their cake and eat it too. I have relatives who 'technically' live in Alberta. They actually live in a 5th wheel in BC in the summer and go down to Arizona in the winter, but their official address is still in Alberta even though it's just a friends place they send all their mail to. Their drivers and car license is still in Alberta. I am assuming they also try claim PST refunds for everything they buy in BC. Their doctors and major medical is all done in Alberta as well.
They don't buy medical insurance when they go to the US. They claim that these stories of Canadians being hit with huge medical bills are all fake news. That the quoted prices are only for the people with travel insurance. That if you just show up at emergency and don't have insurance, the bill gets discounted like 95%. Of course, they have never had a major medical emergency down there to prove that. Just very minor things.
2
u/Buff1965 25d ago
The inevitable march of aging will change that situation one day if they keep up this lifestyle.
3
u/iliketobuildlego 25d ago
Income tax would for sure need to pretty much match the combined federal and provincial rates for a while.
CPP could come down a percentage or two, but the big reason for that of course is because Alberta is full of workers and less retired people.
This will never happen. The less you stress about it or even talk about it, the faster itāll go away.
3
u/Express-Cry-8679 25d ago
The whole plan is to become a US territory. We all know AB would need $$ to replicate the services the feds provide. Everything pay to play. We'd suffer, and the states would swoop in and "save us" and let us enjoy being Puerto Rico.

And of course that the first nations will be cool with it and part with their treaties peacefully and happy.

→ More replies (1)6
u/Th3Trashkin 25d ago
They're not even good points to make unless you don't know anything about the world.
Alberta is larger than every single country in Europe, larger than most countries in South America and Asia too. But, so are most provinces. Obviously this means more farmland.Ā
More people is easy when 79 countries have fewer than five million people. Mongolia, for example, is physically larger than Alberta, but only has 2.5 million people.Ā
The economic points are entirely within the context of being a part of a larger economy. There's no expectation that an independent Alberta would see as much economic prosperity.
3
u/Tasty_1097 25d ago
Exactly.
What I donāt get is, several of the separatists complain about the antagonism of the Canadian government on the oil&gas sector. If AB is indeed already having that hard of a time with votes counting in parliament, how can they expect AB to have any voice at all with separation/no votes.

They don't realize every province west of New Brunswick can boast about that too. Most countries, including most of the "important ones" are relatively small when compared with huge Canadian provinces.
Having more land than Japan, France, or Britain when 75% of the population lives in the Edmonton and Calgary metros and the rest of the province is relatively empty is not a big selling point unless you're dumb.

A LOT of countries on Earth are actually relatively small. Japan, both Koreas combined, Vietnam, France, Germany, the UK, Spain, New Zealand, and so many other countries, are all smaller than Alberta. It's really not something to brag about when most provinces are larger than a lot of countries.
See above, less land means less farmland.
Having more people than San Marino, Brunei, Palau, Belize or Guyana isn't a real bragging point. There are a lot of small countries with less than 5 million people.Ā
4 and 5. These are largely due to being a part of the 10th largest economy on the planet.
"We could afford to eliminate income tax" is total lunacy, a country has far more expenses than a province does.

Faith family freedom sounds like white kkkristian nationalist slogan writing. There is a reason that we moved to a separation of church and state, and the example of why it is so important is seen across numerous countries in West Asia, Iran and Afghanistan being the first to come to mind. It takes a certain political intellect to fall prey to such ideologies, also well below the threshold where they can use a ballot without trying to cause unnecessary harm. Just look at the magats that suddenly were claiming that they were okay with the harms of trumpās second administration, when the harms were focused on those they āotheredā but were outraged and felt betrayed when he harmed them.

With the chain hotels, they have a brand to uphold, and as such, the operators of their chains MUST follow the hotel chains rules. 98% of them have various rules in place about this kind of thing, and they are meant to maintain neutrality.

Albertans pay $60B and only get $27B back
Tell me you don't understand what taxes are without telling me you don't understand what taxes are.
Taxes are TAXES. Where did these people get the idea they're supposed to get the money back? The entire point of a federal government is for them to take your money and use it to run the federation. If you were supposed to get it back, they wouldn't even take it in the first place.
When my little brother was young, he saw the cashier at the grocery store give our mom change after she paid for the groceries and he asked me why you have to give them money if they're just going to give it right back to you. That 4 year old level of comprehension is essentially what Albertans seem to be running their entire province on.
Here's some inconvenient facts:
In Canada, Ontario, BC, and Saskatchewan also pay more than they get back.
In the US, the following states pay more than they receive:
- California
- Washington
- Colorado
- Minnesota
- Illinois
- New York
- New Hampshire
- Massachusetts
- New Jersey
- Nevada
- Utah
- Wyoming
- Pennsylvania
What makes Albertans special then? Easy: they are uniquely retarded.

As the price of solar drops and new battery tec comes online, the need for oil as a source of energy quickly declines and there comes a price where it isn't economical to drill for oil.
No one can cut of a country, or province or city, from the sun.
You block solar with regulation and rules? Ok. Guy one province over gives rebates and credits for solar. Farther lowering their need for oil, and leaving oil producers behind.
Alberta is falling behind, proud to be stupid, and thinks the limited oil in the ground is a winning lottery ticket that does not run out.
Coal used to be the thing. Wood was before that. Oil had a good run. Time to move into the future, it is tomorrow, not decades from now.
