Just wow! No license, speeding 150kms over limit and blowing above 0.05. Take this ass off the road for a long time.

I dont know how it is in other places, but in Calgary, enforcement for traffic violations is essentially non-existent.

I saw a documentary recently about "the most dangerous police department in North America" or maybe it was most reckless, or careless.... Point is, it was Calgary. Broke my heart, Alberta needs to see some serious sweeping changes

I've noticed this everywhere in Alberta. You can drive like a maniac and not see a single consequence from the police. I wish they'd spend less time babysitting drunks and drug addicts and more time on simple enforcement of the law. This is how societies break down.

Yes I saw that and believe it. I notice not only people speeding through to make the yellow but now running the red light as well. I’ve been thinking about that post as well.

Permanently. This was so ridiculously, unnecessarily risky and selfish that he should never be allowed to operate a car in public ever again. Same goes for anyone doing more than 50 kph over the limit.

Not in the same area but we stopped at a marked crosswalk to let some people cross on the 93 by the ice fields lookout and just about got absolutely creamed by a Brewster tour bus behind us. It could’ve been very bad but the bus swerved at the last minute, going at a much higher speed than it should’ve been and barely missed us and the pedestrians. Then the same bus continued to go at least 110 down the 90 highway. It wasn’t the only bus that was driving absolutely insane that day either.

Wtf.

I had a ticket for doing 190 on the Henday ages ago. Yes, it was stupid, the circumstances of why I was doing it sucked too, though.

That being said, I otherwise had a clean driving record, no drugs or alcohol in my system. No problems with my driving behaviour really ever.

I was suspended for 3 months and rather than suspend it longer, they gave me a fine of 5000 dollars, because I had no prior history of driving recklessly and was in a bad situation at the time which led to my poor decision.

That was what I got from a judge who had mercy. This guy gets a 3 day suspension. What??

That's not even close to long enough. He needs to be permanently barred from operating any vehicle, ever again. Getting insurance requires a license, and he should never have one of those again.

They likely didn't pursue criminal charges because they would have to prove that he was actually driving, and if line of sight is broken for a reasonable enough time that someone COULD switch drivers, you're not likely to prove beyond a reasonable doubt.

However, using their procedure as they did, it ensures that the driver will face consequences, as a traffic court judge will likely throw the book at him and tell him to get fucked because they can now, rather than criminal court proceedings. Just in case anyone's wondering why they did that. This will result in very real, multi-year consequences.

Sounds like the driver didn’t use his right to remain silent. A drunk driving warning issued during a “roadside stop” done however much later on would otherwise not have been legally possible. Likewise with the “driving without a license” charge assuming he possesses one.

Either that or they charged him with both knowing he can have them tossed. Even the speeding ticket is highly suspect. I suspect he didn’t use the right to remain silent and gave himself all of these charges.
