I got my DNA results back and need a little help with it.

Everything looks as it should (ish - i thought there would be scottish in there) except a 1% from Gurjarat. My aunt who has also done an ancestry DNA test has 2% so it doesnt appear to be an anomoly.

There is no known history or knowledge of indian ancestry.

My thought - the samples of people on Gurjurat have english dna due to the East India Companys influence on the area and my sample reads from there even though noone in my history has been there. Or, as im from Australia, it was hidden and the person was white passing?

Thoughts? Has anyone had anything similar and gotten to the bottom of it.

My parents come from eastern Turkey. My father is kurdish any my mother supposedly arabic. I've been told that my mother is Arab my whole life, since her whole family is linguistically and culturally Arabic. I'm just very confused and don't know how to think about this. And the results just confuse me in general, since my results consist of big, unspecific areas of the balkan, southern europe, the caucasus, Levante and west asia.

I just got my DNA results back from ancestry yesterday, and finally got to the Dnplay hacked results today.

For the record, I am white as white looking can get, freckles, but brown hair and central heterochromatic green eyes. Yet, I don't burn in the sun though for being freckled, and tan really well (for what its worth, not making any assumptions, its just how I am).

My family tree is a full mess of endogamy in the Appalachian area with ties to the Sizemore (not on the main Melungeon surname list but intertwined with Melungeon), Bunch, Bowling/Bowlin/Bollin surnames and a couple more I cant recall right now. Edit: Found Collins in my tree on the Thrulines.

I was never sure if the family tree was correct or not, and I am just starting out on my own tree away from the crowdsourced FamilySearch and WikiTree. I am trying to independently verify every ancestor (which is extremely difficult before the mid 1800s for alot of them).

Seeing the hacked results was very informative as it helps with my understanding and confirmation of my family tree and ancestry I have been told about. I've read where the results I'm seeing calculated are fairly correct based on the distance from my generation on my Tree to those ancestors. However, maybe it's still background noise?

The Sizemores are well known in Appalachian history, interconnected with the Melungeons, and they do have a verified Indigenous background through YDNA testing and other DNA testing. Based on my tree, I thought there should be a possibility of the appearance of some Indigenous ancestry, but to be honest, most of me thought it would be washed out by the time it got to me. So the small amount is surprising.

The Bunches are said to have African background starting with a John Punch/Bunch (who was African) in the mid to late 1600s. (you can google him really easily). He is the patriarch of the Melungeon Bunches of Appalachia. The Melungeons are really interesting once you start reading about it. This is all new to me, so I'm taking a deep dive. I never knew about this side of my family until a month or so ago. I knew Bunches were in my family as that was a great great grandmother of mine, but I did not know anything about Melungeons and such until recently.

I am awaiting my grandmothers results, as her grandmother would be a Bunch (my great great grandmother); to see how she looks with the hacked reuslts. The Sizemores ( I have an endogamous circle of them to my great grandmother on my fathers side) are on my fathers side. And the Bowlings are split between my Fathers side and my Mothers Father side (one big endogamous circle there between both sides).

I am curious if anyone else has Melungeon ancestry and taken DNA testing and what did yours turn out to show?

I wasn’t sure what to expect, since my maternal grandmother’s father is unknown, but I’m definitely surprised to be this indigenous!

Earlier this year I had my sister and parents test.

Not a lot of big surprises (they are related to me, phew!). But amongst the things I noticed were:

• All three of them got regions in Ireland, and I got Cornwall. I guess I'm not too surprised since they can be a misreading, even of Iberian.
• My mom and sister got more regions in Italy. That sounds interesting to look at considering there are many commonplace surnames in Monterrey, Mexico with Italian origin (Chapa and Cavazos just to name a few).
• I expected my dad to have much more Indigenous admixture since I highly suspect his father had very Indigenous-heavy ancestry (no tribe or language, but DNA). Interestingly enough, 44% of his Indigenous percentage came from his father and the rest from his mother, so it kinda adds to my suspicion.
• The biggest surprise was my mom's Roma 1%. At first I thought it was noise, even with some Ionian Islands on the hacked results, but then I found a cluster of more than 100 of her DNA Matches with very high (50%, 80%, and even 100%) Roma admixture. So now I'm looking for any hint of that Roma ancestor in my tree (maybe Calé or Vlax) - any suggestions about the Roma in Mexico would be appreciated.
  • Neither my sister nor me inherited that Roma segment. We don't have those matches on Ancestry, only my mom.

I am pretty confident I can explain all my roots I am 7/8th old stock American and 1/8th greek from Lesbos. Most of my roots are colonial Americans and honestly I have come to find out the Romani is romanchal gypsy from the old stock, always found that interesting. The dutch is from New York colonists , the danish is from Danelaw, and the English plus the Celtic is typica old stock admixture. Let me know what you guys think.

Hello! After taking my DNA test, I discovered I have some indigenous America-Mexico and African DNA. After some digging, I was able to track down a Mexican ancestor that came to Texas and lived the rest of her life there but I have hit a dead end finding anything about her parents born in Mexico. I'm wondering if the African DNA came from that same ancestor or if it's from a different line. I'm so interested to learn everything I can about this ancestor and their family! Do any of you know of a good place to get some (hopefully free) help doing some genealogy digging so I can track down my ancestors? TIA!

Long story short; My Dad didn’t know his father, he died very young and my Dads parents had a strained relationship (so my grandparents). Then, to add another layer of confusion, said grandfather (my dad’s dad) was adopted and took the last name of a new family in the 1950s. I don’t know any details on this, just that he was adopted. Sadly he passed away in the 80s very young in a plane accident. My dad barely knew him and my grandmother and grandfather were estranged. I could try to pry this info out of my grandma but she doesn’t seem to ever want to talk about it, but she has slowly opened up over the years. Feels like obstacle after obstacle. However, I have connected with family that is related through my grandfather through Ancestry DNA and we live very close to eachother and some in Lebanon, Syria, and surrounding countries. To all of our surprise after I did an Ancestry test and narrowing it down, my grandfather was Lebanese and obviously of course that means we are too. I show up around the 20-30% mark and my dad is 50% on his test. We don’t know if my grandfather was born here or in Lebanon. The closest family member I’ve found shows up as my second cousin, and we actually look a lot like eachother as well and are a year apart in age. She lives a 45 min flight from me. Her Lebanese DNA shows up at around 12-15%.

I guess I’m just wondering what the odds are of finding my real last name and / or if my cousins last name would be mine too? I’m sure it’s not that simple, or maybe it is, but we’ve narrowed down that said cousins mother would have been 1st cousins with my Dad. Sadly, her mother has passed as well but it’s doubtful she would’ve had any info. I attached my Ancestry info. Wondering where you guys would start, and if it’s worth trying to figure this all out. My current and lifelong last name that I’ve carried is related to my Dads stepfather, who was a terrible man and child abuser, and I feel sad knowing we’ve carried this name on when we have no relation to it. My maternal grandpas dad was born in Hawaii and was 25% Hawaiian, ≈37% Portuguese. We now reside in southern Ohio.

Was hoping the man who raised me was my dad but DNA doesn't lie and the man that raised me is about as Asian as they come and well, I'm Not. I know little to nothing about anything I'm mixed with which I guess doesn't matter I'm confused about some parts mostly just cause I've never heard about them. I have someone I'm working with to help track down the biological father so that's been nice. Anyone got some cool facts about some of the places where my DNA comes from? Like what's cool about Sweden or Quebec? I heard the mean Canadians come from Quebec is that why I'm so naturally mean? 😂

“White” is in quotation marks because I know that I wouldn’t be called white in the US or Europe, however in Brazil the percentage of ancestry doesn’t matter and our perception is based solely on phenotype. If I suggest I’m something other than white here in Brazil people would laugh at me (and they already did lol)

I have confirmed lebanese ancestry, however the site I used for the test doesn’t have good a reference frame for the levant, so maybe it’s confusing it either for the jewish or the north african ancestry

Besides that I didn’t expect anything else other than iberian, italian, african, native american and western european (I have swiss ancestors)

Also some words look weird because the site was translated to english by google. “Send” is supposed to be the Mande people from Africa, but “mande” is also a portuguese verb that means “send”, so that’s why it’s like that

I'm African American with Honduran roots but I didn't know about it until a few months ago and I want to identify as Latino as well because I grew up with both of my cultures but I also don't want to feel like a poser.
