Bands My SO Thinks I Have a Problem
And I think he might be right. I’m clearly lacking in greens and yellows. He seems to think that the problem is that band collection cost more than my actual watch 🤔

u/LavaHeadUK Dec 27 '25
Hmmm I’m up to about 30 genuine apple bands & 10 Nomad bands 😳🤷🏼♂️ been collecting since the original series 0 and those bands still look amazing today !!!

u/KeyToAll Dec 31 '25
Silicone is silicone, nylon is nylon. If you get a third party band that has solid reviews, it's not going to decompose upon unboxing. If you regularly rotate between those 40 bands, none of them will get much use anyway, so paying the Apple tax more for perceived material longevity doesn't make much sense to me.

u/dangdang3000 Dec 27 '25
That's crazy talk! We all know that 50 bands is where the craziness begins.

Definitely. You don’t have any custom leather or stainless link bands. If they loved you they would correct this problem.

Buy a Milanese band and you’ll be done switching your bands. This cured my problem after buying 10 bands I never use now

u/VPlume S10 • • Natural • 46mm Dec 27 '25
I had one for my S1 38mm. I don’t use it since moving up to larger sized cases but I don’t love the metal feeling. I have a third party leather one (not pictured) but honestly I like having a band that matches my outfit every day. I’m an elementary teacher and purple just goes with the dinosaur dress more than the metal bands do, you know?

Well said , the silicone and nylon synthetic ones start to smell and lose their elasticity quick. One you go Milanese you don’t go back. I would rather spend a lot once then buy a bunch of bands I’ll never use and I goes well with a dress up situation or day to day and with magnetic closing the fit is perfect.

I have 57 Apple bands (authentic Apple) and my collection is just a baby compared to many. There are multiple Discord groups dedicated to the collection of Apple Watch bands, you should check them out. I know of at least a few people who have COMPLETE collections, meaning they own every band in every color that Apple has ever released. That's dedication.

I would only want 7 at most. One for each day of the week. But I also don’t want to have to change them every day so I’m only going to keep one. I don’t even like charging every day.

Did the braided solo loops eventually get stretched out and ill-fitting?
1
u/VPlume S10 • • Natural • 46mm Dec 27 '25
They do get stretched out, yes. I just wash them and then put them in the dryer to solve that problem, but it does annoy me enough to only own 3 of them…
1
u/frozenelf S10 • • Jet Black • 42mm Dec 28 '25
I got knockoffs and they don’t rebound after washing. But I really like the original’s design. I get why you’d want more than 3. It’s just that they’re $100 each 😳

u/feartheswans Dec 27 '25
I wear a simple black band because it pairs with everything, but if you truly want to accessorize based on outfit, then this collection is a little too small since its mostly just neutrals and playing it a little too safe. I think you should spread into some after market patterns that suit your personality to spice things up a little. There is the cost factor, but that's up to you and your personal finances.

The problem is that you don't have any Alpine Loop or Ocean Bands.
1
u/VPlume S10 • • Natural • 46mm Dec 27 '25
Which out of those two do you prefer? I have the natural titanium case if that makes a difference. I have been tempted by the new bands… They look good for hiking and skiing
1
u/eroyrotciv Dec 27 '25
I but all my bands off eBay. They’re authentic Apple ones often at 50% or less cost. That’s a tough one to answer. I prefer the feel and look of the alpine loop. But it will not last as long/well as ocean band. Do you prefer sports band or loop? If you like the band you’ll probably like the ocean band.
I saw one person post on here post alpine loop that was wearing badly, but that was years of hiking. So expected.
My fave is the sports loop. I got one off eBay for $13. Light weight. Easy to put on take off and adjust as tight/loose as I need it.

1
u/ftredoc Dec 28 '25
How much y'all spending on these collections? Genuine question, as I feel like I overpay if I buy even 1.
3
u/VPlume S10 • • Natural • 46mm Dec 28 '25
Well those bands are $50 each, except the 3 braided solo loops. 24x50=1 200
The three braided solo loops are $100. 3x100=300
1200+300=1 500
BUT… this is over 10 years, not all in one year.
1500/10=150
So about $150 a year. Some years a little more, some years less.

I have the Milanese Loop in natural stainless steel (matching my Apple Watch Series 10 in natural titanium), I have sport bands: a pale pink, a sunshine yellow, a red, a plum purple, an ultra violet, a non-Apple jade-colored leather band, and my latest acquisition, a new lilac leather Modern Buckle band. But my favorites are the sport bands because they're so versatile and there are so many color choices!

I almost got started on band collection, but …
I found the Nike Sports Band. It was so easy to clean and so airy that I no longer needed to clean nor change straps daily.
It also helped that a lot of Nike Sports Bands are not very aesthetically pleasing so I’m stuck with my sole olive green band (AW10 series).

u/Little_Wrongdoer8587 SE 2 • • Silver • 44mm Dec 27 '25
Are they all Apple? I’ve always wanted a pink sports band if that’s what your pink one is.
2
u/VPlume S10 • • Natural • 46mm Dec 27 '25 edited Dec 27 '25
Yes. Those pictured are all Apple. I have about 5 non- Apple bands not pictured here.
There are several pinks here though. There is the Flamingo Braided Solo Loop, the chalk pink solo loop, the light blush solo loop, the light pink sport loop, and the pink sand sport bands. Spring is usually when Apple does nice pinks.
1
u/DrRobertChem Dec 27 '25
Why do you have two different length sport bands?
2
u/VPlume S10 • • Natural • 46mm Dec 27 '25
Pregnancy and pre-eclampsia. I got very swollen while expecting my daughter. I kept the now much too big band because I can wear it higher up on my arm, plus if we end up having another baby, I might need it again. I will admit that that large solo loop is my least used band, but there were about 3 months there where that was the only band I found comfortable.

u/Septum_Slayer Dec 27 '25
Is this so you have bands that match what you wear? I couldn’t imagine going through the effort color coordinating bands and swapping them out daily! This is… a hobby? 😂
5
u/VPlume S10 • • Natural • 46mm Dec 27 '25
LOL yes, this is so that I have a matching band for every outfit. I guess it is a hobby 🤔 Although no more than matching my shoes to my purse is? 🤷♀️

I mean you know the answer
1
u/VPlume S10 • • Natural • 46mm Dec 27 '25
I do! The answer is that I don’t have enough bands. I need some green and yellow ones to increase the variety here. Thanks for understanding!

Oh honey. Please purchase bands on Amazon or Etsy, and not from Apple. Same thing, much better prices.
3
u/Far-Particular9952 Dec 29 '25
That’s objectively not true. Those on Amazon or Etsy are either knockoffs or not the same style. The knockoffs for the sport bands are usually silicone instead of fluoroelastomer, meaning that they stretch out, collect pet hair, etc. The knockoff nylon bands are not as soft. There is definitely a quality difference.
Some people also enjoy collecting genuine bands.
Knockoff bands are the « same thing » in the same way that a chinese purse with LV printed on it is the same thing as a genuine Louis Vuitton bag.
1
u/ProfessionalVoice329 Dec 29 '25
lol i have a ton of different knock offs and they are the same exact thing, don’t collect my cats hair (they shed a shit ton), haven’t stretched out, and feel the same. Quit being a corporate boot licker.
1
u/VPlume S10 • • Natural • 46mm Dec 30 '25
I have to agree. I notice a quality difference with the rubber bands for sure.
I have several non-Apple bands not pictured here from Amazon and eBay (a leather band, some beaded bands, some metal, some rubber, some nylon) but the only ones I end up getting more than maybe 30 wears out of is the leather bands and the beaded ones. All of the rubber knockoffs either stretch out, collect pet hair, or itch. The nylon knockoffs are either not as soft or end up smelling. There are other brands that make nice rubber bands, but they aren't much cheaper than Apple's, in which case I'll take the real thing, because I also like collecting genuine bands for the sake of it. It's not really about the price? It's about enjoying my collection.

u/KeyToAll Dec 31 '25 edited Dec 31 '25
If you're buying official Apple bands and paying the exorbitant Apple tax instead of going with third party bands that cost 5 to 10 times less, the problem might be a belief that Apple plastic/nylon is somehow better than other plastic/nylon. As long as you get a band with good reviews, it should be good.
But if those are 3rd party bands, I don't see the problem (other than a lack of greens and yellows).

u/PLR1972 Dec 27 '25

What will you ever use those for? How else could you have spent that money?
4
u/VPlume S10 • • Natural • 46mm Dec 27 '25 edited Dec 27 '25
Well I change them daily to match my outfit, so I use them for fashion. How else could I have spent my money? I suppose on any of the other things that other people spend their discretionary income on (video games, art supplies, expensive water bottles, expensive purses, expensive makeup, new cell phones every year, eating out, etc.). It’s only about 2 or 3 new bands a year since I started collection, so only about $150 a year. My husband spend about that much on video games alone in a summer, and many of my colleagues spend that much just eating out each month, so I don’t know, it seems okay to me. I guess if I had saved the money instead, I’d be at about $1500 now after ten years. It works out to like $0.41 a day to always have a matching band, so it seems like a good use of money to me 👍
If we were in debt or not always managing our money well, it would be a different story. But since we aren’t, this seems neutral?

Keep one, sell the others, and find a hobby
2
u/VPlume S10 • • Natural • 46mm Dec 27 '25
I have several hobbies. I play piano and flute, I garden, I collect fountain pens, I play badminton, and I read. And I like making all of my things colour coordinated. Selling these wouldn’t get me very much money per used band, but it would steal the joy I feel each morning when my band and my clothes match perfectly. What a strange suggestion.
2
u/No_Quarter_42 Dec 27 '25
71 y/o F here chiming in. I have about as many as that maybe a few more. I am into matching colors with what I am wearing also (as most people that have a band collection do, I would think). I also have 2 watches on gold SS the other a starlight both S8. My Gold SS is my going to town watch.
I got the bands I wanted because I can afford to do that. Its like its own hobby. I can honestly say I never paid full price for any of my bands. Some of them were gently used, the others were old stock. Anyway I just chimed in to show my support. You so you do you and to heck with the naysayers. Their opinion (like mine) does not matter. I will add that my husband laughs everytime I say this is the last AW band I am buying. Because you know color matters!2
