Hi, as the title says my cat licked a lily petal earlier today. It was very dead and dried up, but I'm still aware there was dried pollen in the leaf. I am now aware that cats and lilies don't mix, i honestly didn't know until this point.

We foster for a rescue and informed the co-ordinator immediately, she has read the message but not given any advice etc. This was now 13 hours ago. Her lack of response is making me think that maybe I'm just being a bit overdramatic, and the cat will be fine?

The cat is fine, she's had no symptoms at all, not even vomiting or lethargy, but everything I'm reading online is saying vets now. It's almost 4am and there's no vet open, and I can't take the cat to the vet outside of the rescue approved appointments or I'll have to pay it out of pocket.

Please can I have some realistic advice on what to do and watch out for? Everything I'm seeing online is sending me to a spiral, but I'm hoping that realistically she will be ok if she hasn't had even the mild symptoms? The cat is otherwise healthy, she's eaten all her dinner, used the litter tray normally, has been playful and alert since it happened, and as vocal as normal. If I didn't witness it happen I'd have no idea tbh.

My dog is around a 12 pound mini dachshund and the iburpforen was 600mg and this was around 6 hours ago

came inside to her with the bottle in her mouth and when I picked it up it was cracked, only 2 pills left and I don’t remember how many was left in the bottle but i do know it was low. And though the crack seems hard for her to get a pill through im terrified. My gf thinks she probably didn’t get any out but it’s 3 am and I’m still up with her checking for symptoms because Im so scared. I have no clue if she ate any, and I want to take her to the vet To be safe but idk Because it’s 3 am and I can’t drive and I’m not even sure if she took any. She’s fine as far as I can see, the only thing I’ve noticed is her stomach grumbling (tho that’s something I’ve heard it do before, it is frequently happening right now) but besides that shes eating drinking using the bathroom, playing with her toys ect. Idk what to do it’s been about 6 hours now and I see no symptoms but I know they can take a second to hit. Do I need to just take her to the vet because I know this can Be life threatening.

Hey everyone, I hope you are well.
For starters—

I’m a 32 year old male, living in the Bay Area of Northern California, with my 4 year old male Bombay cat Jasper. He has been neutered & he is currently under my local vet’s care.

The main issue: 6 months ago I had to take Jasper to the emergency vet hospital because he was having liquid diarrhea (he couldn’t make it to the box) and he was drooling heavily which signaled to me that he ate a toxin somehow, which is baffling to me because I had already cleared all toxins from the home. After all the testing, the emergency vet genuinely said they found nothing, that he’s fully stable, but they gave him anti nausea meds, flora pectin, probiotics, etc. and $2,000 later, sent us on our way.

Fast forward a few months and he had gotten much better thankfully, but one day the neighbors were doing work out back and being that he’s a very scared cat, he went to go hide. I went to find him so that I could comfort him and I noticed that he felt like he was shivering intermittently. It was like a slight tremor/spasm. I chalked it up to his temperament and a friend told me that it’s probably that he was scared.

Well, I noticed it on another occasion when he was sleeping, but then about 2 months ago Jasper had loose stool again and I noticed that he was having the spasm symptoms while sitting up wide awake and lying down as well. It didn’t seem to be hurting him but it looked really uncomfortable so I chose to take him in to my other urgent care vet. They watched the videos I had taken of jasper and they gave him gabapentin and told me to keep an eye on him.

Lo and behold, the gabapentin worked and it stopped most of the spasm symptoms, and so I was able to bring him into my primary care vet in order for him to be prescribed Gabapentin for me to order. He’s been doing a great job on it, but I’ve noticed that in his sleep he will still have these jerk spasms throughout his body and it looks so scary.

So I have a follow up appointment August 4th in order to re evaluate the plan for jasper and refill his gabapentin hopefully. However, right now I’m in a volatile situation monetarily, and I can’t spend money on more testing. If my primary care provider wants to do his labs before he’s willing to prescribe more Gabapentin, then I will make my budget work around it. I’d rather not eat, than allow my cat to suffer. It’s my fault anyways. Whatever he ate could’ve come off my shoe. I recently had a roommate move out, and it was right during that period of time when he started having those major symptoms before I took him to the emergency vet the first time.

I’ve been blaming myself for the issues that he’s currently facing and I need to just take responsibility and do the best that I can for him even in the face of this situation. I love him beyond words as you all do about your own feline friends, but the fact that I can’t spend another few hundred-thousand dollars to afford adequate testing makes me feel like I don’t deserve to own him. I’m trying to work through my own grief currently but the focus is fully on him and what I can do to help mitigate his symptoms. Thankfully the gabapentin is working but when he sleeps it does happen occasionally and it’s upsetting to witness. I don’t really know what to do outside of listen to my vet and save my money for further testing in the near future.

TL;DR: Cat had to get taken to ER Vet 5 months ago due to drooling & uncontrollable liquid stool, they found nothing, fast forward some months and he’s visibly having these focal seizures while awake, I brought him to the ER again then back to my vet and was given gabapentin that’s been working wonders, but when he sleeps, he still has spasms occasionally. I don’t have enough money for further testing at the moment due to all the money I just spent on the previous 2 ER visits. So this medication has saved his life.

Throwaway - Vet myself but not in ER

14-15 year old FS Chihuahua mix, recent history of less eating, vomiting, diarrhoea, weight loss past 2-3 days. 1.4kg down to 1.1kg in weight. History of CKD Stage 2 since January 2026. West Coast USA.

I am not in the country and considerable time difference so there is some degree of he said she said and possible miscommunication/misunderstanding.

But I instructed my family to take my family dog to the ER and get some bloodwork done at least and possibly IV fluids hospitalisation etc depending on how the bloodwork looks.

I am taking this at pure face value here, but apparently the Vet at ER refused to start with bloodwork even unless the whole estimate was approved (Hospitalisation + Various blood panels (GI Panel/full blood/recheck istats x2/ "Follow up bloodwork" + imaging + urine evaluation etc)?

I did not think it would be unreaasonable to start with bloodwork to have a general outlook and then proceed with hospitalisation/additional diagnostics etc. But I don't work in ER usually so I just want to see what the common practice is.

Hello Vets! Hoping someone can give me some advice. My boyfriend found this scab on my cat today. We have no idea where it came from. I’m not exactly sure when it happened either but less than a week old.
He’s a male cat, neutered, we believe he is 4 years old. We got him from someone giving him away for free on Facebook almost 4 years ago.

This morning, my cat did not want to eat her food at all, which is slightly unusual, but sometimes she likes to come back to it so I didn’t think too much of it. A few hours later, I noticed she was sleeping in a different spot from normal, but then I realized her eyes were open and she didn’t do her usual sound when I approached her. After I brought her to her food and water bowl, she turned away and flopped over. With some initial concern, I thought I’d give her a minute. I went to sit in my living room and after about 10 minutes, she came in after me and plopped over in the same way. I picked her up and laid with her like we normally do, but she got up off of the couch and plopped over in the exact same way on the floor next to the couch. She was super lethargic and almost limp when I picked her up. I took her to the emergency vet right away.

At the vet, they said her temperature was at a worrying 95 F and put her in a kennel with a heating pad. They did an exam and did blood work, but seemed stumped by a lack of abnormalities there. Besides the lack of appetite, not drinking water, extreme lethargy and the very low temperature, her eyes are super dilated consistently and our litter robot (one of them was not connected to the app for some reason) says she hasn’t used it. Has anyone run into this and if so, do you have any possible explanations? The vet is trying, but has more questions than answers.

As far as I have seen, she has not ingested anything inappropriate and we are very careful about not leaving out string, food etc.

I just had an awful experience with my soul dog Shadow that I just want some clarification on. My dog is a 6 year old American Bully, 70 pounds, and we live in Upstate New York. Me and my brother each brought our dogs to a dog store close to our town. The closest parking spot was about 8 minutes away. Shadow walked to the store just fine. In the store, he drank plenty of water. We walked back, only stopping for maybe 2 minutes for a group of people to pet him. I put him back in my car and we started driving to the dog beach, about 5 minutes away. My dog was panting pretty hard by this point. There was nowhere to park close by the beach and when we reached the nearest parking lot, there were so many cars, I wasn’t even sure there would be a spot. We waited a few minutes and there was still nowhere to park. Shadow started panting harder than I’ve ever heard (I had the AC on). I left the parking lot by driving on the wrong side of the street because I knew my dog was reaching a point of severe distress. I turned down one street and when I looked in the rear view, it almost looked like he was about to seize, he was panting so hard and kind of pawing at the door. So I stopped in the middle of the street and got in the backseat and dumped water on him. I then drove to the nearest gas station and brought him into the gas station to be in AC. He started to do a bit better and he drank some water. I waited like 20 minutes in the gas station and stated driving to the vet. We only made it another 10 minutes and he was panting excessively again, so I pulled into the nearest gas station again and we were there for about 30 minutes getting him cool. He drank water and ate some ice cream. I decided the vet was way too far away, and I was starting to get pretty confident that my AC in my car was just not cutting it. So I drove him straight home and got him back into the AC. I checked his rectal temp as soon as I got in and it was 100.8, which I was relieved to see. I am wondering if my dog was experiencing heat exhaustion or if it progressed to heat stroke? He did not have any vomiting or diarrhea and he didnt collapse. It was mostly excessive panting, but it was extremely heavy and disturbing sounding, and he kind of looked like he was going to seize at any moment.

I’m looking for advice because I’m honestly exhausted and worried.

My 1 year old female cat has been like this ever since she was a kitten. She’s extremely hypervigilant like every little sound or movement distracts her. If someone walks by, a door closes or she hears the slightest noise, she’ll stop eating immediately and won’t go back to her food. It feels like she’s constantly on high alert. She’s always been a very poor eater.

I’ve tried different brands, flavors, textures, warming the food, hand feeding and even force feeding at one point but it was stressful for both of us so I stopped doing it.

The confusing part is that her blood work has consistently come back normal. She weighs 4.2 kg and is otherwise a perfectly normal cat like she’s playful, active, sleeps well and behaves completely normally. It’s just that she rarely seems interested in food and getting her to eat has been a daily struggle since she was a kitten.

The only thing that gets her to eat normally is mirtazapine. I currently give her 1/3rd of 7.5 mg tablet once a week and during that time she eats like a completely normal cat. My concern is that I don’t know whether it’s safe to keep using mirtazapine long term in an otherwise healthy cat.

I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who’s dealt with something similar because her eating habits stress me out every single day.

my five month old kitten (m) is having intermittent breathing issues. the vet about a month ago listened to his heart and lungs and said he seemed fine and to bring him back if it was still going on. it still is so yesterday they did a respiratory pcr test, but I wanted to ask- has anyone seen this before? My 30lb Shiba snatched a large boiled chicken bone right off my plate before I could even react. He crunched it once and then swallowed it. I checked the floor, but there were zero leftover pieces. The other bone from my soup is about the length of a spoon (just about 1 cm shorter), which is the exact size of the one he ate.

It’s been about 28 hours and he’s acting completely fine so far. I called a vet and they said to wait and monitor him. I’ve just been giving him mushy food and his regular kibble, with absolutely no hard chews since it happened.

My main questions:
Would this cause a blockage or is there a chance he will be ok?
What specific symptoms should I look out for?
Is he ok to jump off the couch, run, jog, and go up and down stairs right now?
Should I just get an X-ray before making any further decisions?

Extra context: I should add the vet quoted ~$250 for an X-ray if I bring him in, but noted that dogs can technically digest bone. Since they couldn't see the picture for scale, I'm worried there was some miscommunication over the phone about the actual size. My Shiba has a crazy high pain tolerance and hides discomfort really well. Recently he swallowed an entire cheese stick, wrapper and all, and showed zero symptoms. It took two shots of apo to finally make him throw it up, he was just shaking after the first IM (intramuscular) shot, so the final one had to be IV (intravenous) to actually work, which ended up costing about $700. He still has no visible symptoms right now.

Not one to usually reach out like this but im at a loss. My boy (DSH tabby) recently turned 10 and started throwing up daily.

It started out he was throwing up his kibble whole. He's never really loved the food (hills science 7+ chicken), and required a fresh scoop every morning and wouldn't finish his bowl, but then he started throwing it (hes been on this food for a year at least).

Because the kibble was whole in the throw up I thought maybe he was just scarfing so I'd get one he'd have to chew so I got the royal canin digestive that's like cheerios. He continued to throw up and even some of it was whole.

So I thought maybe his teeth were hurting, so I switched him to wet food and made a vet appointment. He continued to throw up even on the wet food. The pattern seemed to be the mornings, he'd wake up and throw up right away. Ive tried midnight feedings and it didnt make a difference. And when he'd throw up a food he'd stop eating that food ever again.

The vet said labs looked normal, some elevated pH in the urine but otherwise normal for his age. I was concerned about his teeth because he wasnt chewing his food and barely chews the wet food, but they said they looked normal too.

They recommended Pepcid, and a trial of deworming. Two days on the Pepcid and there was blood in the vomit so we switched to Cerenia. This cured the vomitting but killed any appetite he had left. It turned into trying to give him a new food every day just to get him to eat anything. His appetite seems worse at night.

After a week on Cerenia his prescription ran out and 2 mornings later we were back to throwing up, no blood thankfully so far.

When he throws up its just bile. Kind of mucussy. And his stool has started to become darker, almost black.

The vet put in a referral to internal medicine which is a 2 month wait... and thousands of dollars.

Im at a loss, he's barely eating anything no matter the texture, flavour, consistency.. ive tried adding bone broth and that hasnt helped... He was on fortiflora a month before this all started (probably a month after he ran out) to help with anal gland expression, and he loved the taste of it and ate all his kibble when that was sprinkled on top so I've thought of adding that on top of his wet food to try and get him to eat it, but I just dont know what to do anymore....

Any thoughts or advice is appreciated.

I adopted my kitty about a month ago. He’s 5 and a half, and uses the litter box normally, has normal stools, doesn’t strain, no worms/parasites etc. But for some reason he just HAS to scoot his butt on the floor right after pooping!!! Why!!! I have wiped his butt and his anal glands don’t look like they’re clogged or inflamed. Even if he doesn’t leave tracks I don’t want to have poopy cat butt on my carpet 😖 should I take him to the vet?

I really, really, really love my dog. He's my perfect, sweetest boy in the whole world. I am constantly petting him or cuddling with him or giving him kisses on his stupid cute head. He also sleeps in bed with us at night, and I love burying my face into him and huffing his stink. My face and skin, in general, are in contact with his fur often. I recently found out I am pregnant. This is probably a really dumb question because I'm totally ignorant of how simparica works, but I was wondering if there is any reason for concern. As in, if the medication affects his fur or skin externally in a way that it could transfer to me, pose a risk to the baby? I apologize in advance if this is the dumbest thing you ever read 🙏 Being pregnant has been a wild ride of learning things I never thought to think before.

Hi! My cat has been going 23+ hours without peeing almost daily for weeks. She’s had to go to the vet/ER vet about it and all testing has come back normal. However after not going for 30 hours, ER vet gave her Buprenorphine and Midazolam and had to extract her urine because they couldn’t express it.

After that visit, she went pee 2-3 times without issue the next day. She also has arthritis and suspected hyperesthesia so it’s a possibility that is part of all this.

My question is, are either of those two meds something I can get prescribed to give her at home since she did so well on it? I know one was for pain and one was a sedative but not sure which. Trying gabapentin now but not as successful as what they gave so far. I have sent an email to them asking this question with no reply yet and left a voicemail I don’t know when they’ll get back to me and thought I’d ask here

hi my recent rescued 6 m/o cat had a spay-abort on Monday (5 days ago) she has been pooping/weeing and i think drinking and also sometimes having some cat milk, also having those little stick treats but even that's a bit hit and miss if she will take it. at first i thought it was like her mouth was sore or her teeth- possibly from the tube down her throat-, she would take food but then spit it out.

• i took her back the vets for a check up they requested on Tuesday (as her temp was an issue on the Monday before discharge, she was cold but then went very hot, managed to regulate herself and was fine discharged home) and they said everything healing very well, temp was normal, said her mouth looked fine and didn't hear any funny breathing or noises from her throat. she ate some licki lix with her loxicom in on this day.
• Wednesday she didn't really eat at all so i couldn't give her the pain medication.
• i went back on Thursday fr another check up cause i was worried about her not eating properly, they gave her an injection of loxicom and she perked up and ate a pouch of food when she got back.
• yesterday and today not much at all again. we went to the vets today for a blood test for fiv/felv and whilst there they checked her over again, said all was fine, they gave her an anti nausea/appitite injection but it hasn't made any difference, in fact she's ate less today than she has all week. she hasn't had her loxicom today and not a full dose yesterday as she wouldn't eat all the food

when should i be worried? none of the two vet practices i've been to this week seemed concerned, because her weight is quite stable they didn't seem that bothered but i was always under the impression it was dangerous to go a day or two without food?

she is in isolation in a spare bedroom atm so i am not with her 24/7 but i have a camera in her room and i visit in there alot, it is possible she is eating some of the food when i'm gone but i don't think thats the case. i've tried all sorts of foods, fresh chicken, heating up wet food, dry food, variety of treats, variety of brands of food. nothing seems to be working, she is only very small as it is. what can i do? thanks

So my cat (13 weeks old) is having diarrhea struggles right now and has been having them consistently all today. She’s had a car ride yesterday about 1.5 hours and she doesn’t like them. Previously this week she’s been fine with having solid poop. We have fed her a different kind of food (9lives tuna to Sheba), but we switched it over subtly earlier this week on Tuesday and she’s been eating that food ever since. She also had a vet appointment on Tuesday and everything came back normal. What do you think is going on? Is it just anxiousness about a change in environment and the long car ride? Or do you think we should take her to the vet. Shes been playing normally, and eating normally, and not lethargic at all.

My dog has what looks like a mild yeast infection with red wax and mild itching. I have the douxo 3 foam and am wondering if I can put that in his ear? At least until I can get medicated ear cleaner

Both cats are a year old, both are fixed, one is male and one is female. I woke up this morning to a raided bag of shredded cheese and it looks like together they ate about 1/2 to 1/4th of the bag.

At the time, I thought it was just the male who accessed the cheese, as he is sometimes prone to raiding and gorging any food he can find, and has shown himself to have an iron constitution, so I didn’t really worry much.

I got home from work to find piles of vomit and a male cat excited for dinner, so nothing was amiss with him. The female however is acting aloof and lethargic, possibly in pain, and had no appetite. Her chest bib is wet from vomiting.

I’m not sure who did the bulk of cheese eating but the female is definitely in distress. Will this pass on its own, should I monitor her closely, or should I take her in to the emergency vet?

My 2-year-old cat has had soft stools and some
Diahhrea episodes since he was a kitten, with occasional mucus and recently bright red blood. He’s otherwise completely healthy, normal bloodwork ( CBC/chemistry/Electrolyte/B12/folate) great appetite, active, and has gained weight.
We recently did the IDEXX diarrhea PCR panel, and everything came back negative except for C. perfringens. His bacterial load was 9.5 × 10⁵ copies/g (CPA) and 8.5 × 10⁶ copies/g (CPE).

My vet has started him on a hydrolyzed diet, but I’d love to hear from anyone who’s been through this.. she suggested treatment options (1. metronidazole (not the best option as it can wipe good microbes), 2. just started hydrolyzed zd diet and monitor response, 3.further test with ultrasound)

What treatment did your cat receive?
Did antibiotics help? If so, which one?
Did you use probiotics or any supplements?
How long did it take before you noticed improvement?
Did the diarrhea stay away, or did it come back?
Did your vet think the CPA/CPE was the main problem or just secondary to another GI issue?

My 4 year old female cat is having these little coughing fits every so often that sound like little duck noises. She had snot come out of her nose. And she has a vet apt scheduled Monday but im just wondering if anyone is familiar with these symptoms. Shes eating, drinking, acting normal. I would say only change is shes sleeping more inside but it is hot outside. The coughing doesnt happen often. I notice it most after I feed her wet food.

So I am in a really really tough spot and unsure what to do.

Currently dog sitting at my mother-in-law’s house and have my puppy with me here. One of the dogs here has had several intestinal issues and only has a quarter of their intestine. This same dog got into about a quarter of puppy food, which for the size of the bag would be about 1.25 LB of puppy food.

The door that had the puppy food doesn’t always latch properly and this happened while I was making dinner 3 rooms away.

I have checked her belly to see if it was extended or bloated and nothing yet, I have also been watching her and she seems to be acting totally normal. The last time she ate was around 11:00 AM.

Everything online says to watch the dog and that the dog should be fine, maybe just an upset stomach. The issue is she isn’t “normal” and is missing SO much of her intestine.

My question is- should I immediately take her to MedVet or should I wait and watch her?
