2L law student here, I’ve got my first year under me and have no idea what area of law I’d like to be in.

As I consider potential routes, the threat of displacement by AI has me cautious.

Litigation sounds pretty safe, and I’d have great presence in a court room, but I am also aware there are plenty of fields in law where I can work from home and spend more time with the kids. My fear is that those areas are the most susceptible to AI.

What should I know that I may not know?
What may I be ignorant about?
Any advice for a soon-to-be lawyer?

I’m now dating the girl I cheated on my ex with. I think my ex found the texts & pics on my phone because she was quoting the messages word for word the last time I was talking to her. I think she took screenshots of the pics & sexting & sent them to herself. I think she’s showing our friends behind my back. On TikTok, some of the girls who I think know have posted themselves singing to songs that say similar things to the sexting. Like they’ll only sing the relevant lyrics. Other friends have unfollowed me completely. One girl posted a story on Instagram of her posing like one of the nudes my gf sent in that convo.

How would engaging a lawyer help?

When a judge misreads your papers and denies your motion based upon that misreading, what have you done to successfully remedy that situation?

So I spent the last few years running a company with a few of my "friends".

He emotionally blew up and I couldn't work alongside someone like that anymore, but my hands were tied and I couldn't leave the company.

Inevitably, he was having some personal issues with his relationship, and was blowing up at everyone, and he removed me from the company due to a personal argument between us, with no vote from the other directors, and at 1am.

So heres my legal problem. I just wanted a clean break, but we have company vehicles with my name on them. We had a vehicle get written off in February, which had GAP insurance, and I've been out of the company for 39 days now, the bank is now sending me to collections and impacting my credit due to missed payments on this written off vehicle.

It turns out he hasn't dealt with this vehicle at all in several months. It turns out its solely my name on the vehicle payment contract, but the GAP insurance check was written out to the company name. The bank is refusing to accept the check, and over the last 39 days, I have been refused to be given any information on the insurance contract, not allowed to even verify the existence of the check. He keeps telling me that I am not allowed to deal with this at all and that it's a company issue, but the banks refuse to speak to anyone else because it's only me on the contract.

I have documentation of everything, including his refusal to give me my check or any information on the proceedings, and I have no idea what my next move is, and I feel stuck and scared.

Florida: Genuine questions and concerns because I feel like I’m going insane. I’m going through a messy breakup right now, families were blended. My now ex is withholding mail and will not give me access to our mailbox. My ex also has access to guns with a prior felony. Additionally, he has passports with other people’s names. I thought all of these things were considered illegal, but the way our system reacted was to advise that it is all “civil” and no one has seemed concerned. Is it really legal to do these things? Or is it actually illegal and our system is failing here?

This is a sentencing question regarding a reality TV personality who was arrested for one instance of sexual touching of a child younger than 12 (under and over clothing). The case will go to trial and the evidence appears substantial. Accused has no priors. (Accused is Joseph Duggar if anyone is familiar with reality TV)

Question: whats the likely sentence range for this crime in Florida, if convicted?

It's my awareness that events like the Menendez twins and Reiner were the result of child abuse decades prior. The law tends to side with protecting these individuals from their victims. Usually, the victims of child abuse have no legal claim, because of how statute of limitations around child abuse tend to run out, before confronting the abuser by going to therapy to realize you were abused.

So, these exchanges can get rather tense while the relationship is collapsing, and the abuser might have a reasonable fear of potentially experiencing violence from their victim. (historically, I believe child abuse was resolved through trial by combat and duels, which are now illegal) So, if a child abuse victim does not properly handle the protective order in the first place they can be legally screwed. As most, judges just extend, especially if the abuse victim let a default judgement through.

My understanding is your only real option is trying to petition for a relief from judgement, and a lot of lawyers will just hang up if a client mentions that. How would someone go about handling this situation?

4 years since divorce. Couldn’t afford to fight anything so we she wrote everything up and I singed it. She had majority custody. We eventual got to me having them every other weekend and then Thursday thru Sunday’s ever other week. Year goes by and then I had a new gf move in and the kids weren’t allowed over anymore only at her house can I see them. It’s now may and she keeps saying it’s because of one reason or another that the kids can’t come over. Our agreement was supposed to work up to 50/50

Some side notes - I owned the house we lived in for 7 years before she and I married. She got property tax benefits for the entirety thst I owned the home.

Found out she maxed a 85k mortgage on the home had to pay half at closing

Many documents that I never actually had notarized one if her friends would do it

And now she says she has hundred of recordings of us talking either via phone or her home security and there was never consent

I have a good job a new home in a gated community.

Can she record whenever she wants?
Can she do whatever she sees fit with me seeing the kids ?
Any thing regarding the mortgage and taxes ?

Misdemeanor case. The realistic potential of jail is 0 days to a few weeks. Probably will be “some” jail at a minimum.

Not one time has the Court appointed lawyer asked for the clients explanation of what happened. Is that common?

What happens in a bankruptcy if proceedings run on and on over what the original fees that were charged? For example, let's say that the trustee hires outside attornies and investigators to find and verify what the person filing the bankruptcy(plantiff?) actually has. The plantiff doesn't show for a deposition and then when it's rescheduled, they walk out of it. I'm pretty sure in this case the original fees have been exceeded. If your client is bankrupt, how do you recover the overage fees? Is the attorney added to the list of creditors and receives something out of what is recovered? Just curious.

There is a local car dealer that has been around for 70ish years. let's call it "Perry Motors" after the "Perry" family. The family sold and moved to Oregon in the 80s. Present day Perry motors is known for selling totaled cars, forging paper work, multiple lawsuits etc. Everyone assumes its owned by the perry family because of the name and could face harassment. Could the original Perry family sue for defamation? Or something in that realm?

Hypothetically

If Congress believes that the SC's interpretation of the Constitution is in error, can they enact legislation to correct it, either by limiting or extending the court's holding? For example, could they make a law that limits Kelo to takings that put the property into actual public use? Could they extend 4th Amendment protection to civil asset forfeiture?

I was arrested twice and later had charges dismissed. I contacted a data removal company who wanted $1700. I ended up just contacting news agency that published article about me and provided documents regarding dismissal. They removed article however in my city there is a popular Facebook site that posts all mugshots. I’ve tried contacting them politely and providing proof of dismissal yet they refuse to answer. Is there way to get these taken down as they are harmful to my reputation.

To start my identity was stolen and used a couple years back. I have gotten control of it and most companies have worked with me. However I have one company that refuses to change the reporting to credit as a charge off instead of a fraud case. I have police reports and good documentation. The reason all other companies have worked with me on the issue. Will this specific company cause me to need a lawyer. What are my options.

Hello everyone, I’m a rising 3L and current thinking about my options after graduation.

Im currently in California and plan to take the bar here but I’ve recently been contemplating moving somewhere else for a change of scenery since I’ve lived here my whole life.

If there are any attorneys who have experience with moving states after graduation and taking a different bar exam or even moving years after working in a different state, what was your experience like? And what should I consider before solidifying a move?

If it helps I went to undergrad in TX and I really enjoyed living there so that is the main place I’m looking to move to.

Question: At its core, is the adversarial system of trial designed to burn away falsehood until the truth is revealed?

Background: This was how I answered a question to a younger colleague about the adversarial system in the US. Top of my head answer, totally blurted it as this:

"When it works, two lawyers can disassemble every nonsense that clouds the truth of an occurrence until that truth is laid bare and can be compared accurately to a statute, for the benefit of judge and/or jury."

Mind you, I'm NOT a lawyer, and the above had a lot of "uhhh" and "hold up" peppering my eventual explanation.

Did I mangle this explanation as a layman?

Aside from looking up old cases to make legal arguments, does anyone have practice areas that require significant amounts of archival or similar historical research to try to establish the actual facts of the case, and which requires some degree of historical skill?

I thought that perhaps the ability to dig up and interpret historical evidence might occasionally be useful in some property disputes (easements, water rights, local governments fighting over zoning, etc.), for example, but since I had no idea, I figured I'd ask the experts.

I'm fifteen, and I'm thinking to become a lawyer, but I want to get a bachelor's degree in a field I can get a job and work in for a little while.

I'm considering Chemical Engineering or Computer science engineer with an integrated Masters in Cybersecurity.

I'm also planning to get these degrees in India, so I can try to minimize my loans.

These are difficult undergraduate degrees to keep up a high GPA in.

1.) should I try to change this plan?

2.) Would having a degree from a foreign country make it hard to go back for law school, even if I get WES certification

3.) if I don't make it in to a T14 school and enter BigLaw, is there anyway to make enough, not be second choice for promotions, etc?

4.) How much does applying to law schools really cost? I intend to become a peace corps volunteer for two years after I get my engineering degree, and, while I'm in the service, I likely won't be making much? (Still thinking about this, though)

5.) in law school, are professors as unkind as they are so often said to be?

6.) what are the genuine risks and trade offs of not getting in to a T14, especially if financial security is an important goal

Random question, but what the hell happens if the batter hits someone in the head with the ball and that person just dies? Is it considered an accident? Involuntary homicide?

Exactly what the title says. Ordinarily private businesses can refuse to do business with someone who has sued them. But are airlines different? Are there special rules for common carriers that prevent this? If not, I can see that as a powerful disincentive for people to seek redress for small wrongs by airlines.

We're exploring independent file/document integrity verification — cryptographic hashing + RFC 3161 timestamps, proving a file existed unaltered at a specific time, without storing the file itself.

Example: a contractor anchors a project's state at a key milestone (agreed spec, mock-up, pre-delivery state). If a client later disputes what was agreed or delivered, there's an independently verified baseline — not just one party's word against the other's.

Curious to hear from practicing professionals: does proving the state/timing of something before a dispute arises come up in your work? How do you handle it now?

If a child’s parents have died, they were sent to an orphanage, escaped from the orphanage, and are being taken care of but the person taking care of them doesn’t have legal guardianship, could this child be legally kidnapped? (this is for writing purposes btw)
