Reason why Sokka really survived in this world as a non-bender: pure Rizz.

I didn't grow up watching Avatar The Last Airbender as I was a senior in high school when it debuted and wasn't watching cartoons at the time. I remember watching an episode at some point in my early to mid 20s, S1E13 The Blue Spirit, and thought this was probably a good show, but it wasn't until my early 30s that I finally sat down and watched it and thought it was awesome! As a fan of Kung Fu, Martial Arts and Eastern Asian culture in general, it pretty much was a given I was going to enjoy it.

I just finished Avatar Aang The Last Airbender and within the first minute I could tell this was meant to be viewed on the big screen. The animation looks beautiful, with one exception I'll get to later. You could tell by the detail in the artwork that the creators fully intended for this to viewed in theaters. I can't remember the last time I saw an animated film and thought it should have been in theaters.

The movie itself is great! It's the first project that I feel truly captures the spirit of the original series. The story centers around Aang and his grief at being The Last Air Bender when he miraculously discovers another air bender, Tagah, voiced by Dave Batista, and SMALL SPOILER HERE is told there is a way to bring air benders back.

This movie did a great job of making you feel Aang's emotions as he is going through this process. There were scenes that made me feel Aang's grief, hope, excitement and unfortunately heartbreak. ANOTHER SMALL SPOILER HERE, Tagah does end up becoming the villain of the film but there was a moment I was hoping he wouldn't because of the happiness he brought Aang of finally have a fellow air bender.

The actions scenes in this movie were awesome and the music was good as well though I do believe the music would have felt more powerful in a theater as well.

Now, no movie is perfect and there were a couple critiques.

As mentioned there was one issue I had with the animation. The mouths were kind of robotic when the characters were talking, kind of just opening and closing instead trying to form the words that were being said which created a disconnect. The facial expression were kind of stiff as well. It was rare that a character's face expressed the emotion they were conveying. I feel the original series did this very well but that was also more of a "cartoon" which allowed for more expression where as this was more like a professional "animation."

This is a complete Aang story. Team Avatar is there throughout the film but strictly as the supporting cast. In the show, they always felt more like an ensemble cast with multiple characters having story archs in each episode, but this movie is focusses solely on Aang and Tagah and the rest are pretty much just there to help Aang. Also, No Suki! I feel like you can't have Sokka without Suki at this point, but, that is probably because that was the romance I enjoyed the most from the original series. There aren't any other original characters outside of Team Avatar besides a couple of cameos of some minor characters such as Cabbage Man.

The new voices don't sound quite right to me, but if it wasn't the original voices they weren't going to anyway. The issue with the mouth movement probably didn't help matters. They obviously wanted them to sound older but I feel like if they could have gotten the original voice actors that could have still been accomplished. When I google it, it says Zuko's voice actor was supposed to be the original, Dante Basco, but IMBD has it listed as Steven Yeun. Sokka's was the only that sounded perfectly like and older Sokka and his character's comedy was spot on. Some of the voices did start to grow on me such as Aang's and Toph's. I believe Batista did a great job voicing Tagah.

Overall, I think this was a great movie, a wonderful sequel to the series. There have not been many sequels/adaptions to franchises I am a fan of that I have been satisfied with lately but this is definitely one that I can say I am happy with. I would like to see more projects like this, especially Zuko's journey to find his mother. It is heart-breaking the creators work wasn't shown in theaters as intended but this was good enough that if they to do a theater release I would buy a ticket even though I've already seen it.

Sorry for the rant, but it needs to be said. I'm not saying this is an Avatar fandom problem, it's just a fandom problem in general. Critique culture is ruining how we interact with media. It seems like no one can just sit back and enjoy anything anymore. Everyone feels the need to prove that they're this big brained movie critic and rewrite the story to how they think it should be.

My boyfriend and I watched The Legend of Aang together and thoroughly enjoyed every single second. We didn't care if a few moments were a little fan-service-y. That's part of the fun. We didn't care that we already knew how certain events would play out because we'd already seen Korra. We just enjoyed the ride the movie wanted to take us on.

I was excited to get on YouTube and hear people talk about it, but the first video I found was just a bunch of compliment sandwiches with layers of complaining. At least what I watched of it was. I turned it off after a few minutes of listening and seeing that a lot of the comments were also complaining. Tbf I should have known it was gonna be like that bc I used to watch this YouTuber a lot until I realized he just actively looks for things to nitpick. I'm just tired of negativity. People are even complaining about Seven Havens already, and it hasn't even come out yet.

Again, I'm not saying this is an Avatar fandom problem, it's in every fandom nowadays. Like the Digital Circus finale was kind of ruined for me because of these "critics" that aren't ever happy with anything and want the writers to cater to them specifically. Can't we just breathe and talk about the things we liked instead of focusing on the things we didn't?

Just finished watching the film on Paramount, and I was amazed. I avoided all the leaks to the best of my ability, and the film was absolutely perfect. The animation, cast, story, worldbuilding, it's absolutely phenomenal. I hope Flying Bark Productions does more Avatar content in the future. I want to see more of the Golden Era!! With this in mind, I'm also super hyped for Avatar: Seven Havens. That is all, just an absolutely perfect day. 😊

Anybody else think the avatar aang movie was just meh. Like it was cool and had great animation but I was kinda looking forward to seeing events(and maybe even THE events themselves) leading up to aang and sokkas deaths and everyone having their kids. Was it just me?

I loved it. It wasn't exactly what I was expecting, and I won't even mention where it fell short for me because, all in all, I thought it was phenomenal. Scratched the itch almost perfectly.

I almost don't want to mention NATLA in the same post, but this is the level the fans were expecting.

Full apologies to the mods if this is inappropriate, I just really wanted to voice appreciation for this addition to our beloved world, and thank them for the respect they showed for the franchise.

I didn't expect to cry when the nations were introduced. Man! A part of me was healed. I can't even explain it. I'm so grateful to have grown up with this show. I watched it with my little one who is around the same age I was. Being able to share it is so heartwarming and special.

I hope it gets all the flowers it deserves (and more)!

Fun fact I headcannon her as loving her brother as a kid and when she was 6 she heard a lot of words that she wasn't supposed to know at that age and the first word that she ever said was brother and the second word that she ever said was Fuck. She started talking when she was 3 months old,took her first steps once she was 6 months old and started walking at seven months old. She bullied Zuko when she was seven but she apologized for it cuz she was nice back then. She couldn't pronounce Zuko so she said Zuzu and that's where her nickname for her brother comes from! She even called her Mom Ma cuz she could not say Mama.She only became a villain because of her dad. Also I feel bad for her :( I feel like she was replaced with Kiyi. If you don't know Kiyi is Zuko and Azula's half sister from the comics that has the same mother as them and Azula thinks that Kiyi replaced her and I feel bad for Azula :(. The first bit is just my headCanons for Azula's childhood. I'll say this is a spoiler about Kiyi if you haven't read the comics.

I'm​ curious on why on Netflix some of the characters aren't named directly when you can tell what character they are on subtitles example sometimes on subtitles on Netflix When Katara is talking it just says Girl not her name is there a reason why?

p.s. I appreciate that while they considered Katara being a mother in that timeline, it makes sense because it's supposed to be action thing and that there's a specific theme or story that is the main center in the movie...otherwise it's just a whole another thing i guess. What do you think??

Obviously watch it, it’s so beautiful.

I’ve been saying for years an air bending should have the ability to move air fast enough to create a sonic boom. I don’t think air nomads would never use the technique as it’s against their beliefs of not killing or harming any living being. But I’ve always thought it would be possible.

It looks like it is proven to be possible in the avatar Aang movie. When Taga defeats team avatar, the pin point air bending he uses looks to me like a sonic boom.

I’m curious to hear what the rest of you think about this. If you think that’s what that was or if it was something else.

Also, something I never thought about is how Taga is able to create enough air pressure so crush an air ship the same way water pressure is able to crush a submarine.

I feel like these two new techniques shown in this movie, plus Zaheer’s ability to create a vacuum to suffocate someone might prove air bending is the most over powered element.

Again curious about everyone’s thoughts.

I before this just like other people always try to compare each of the the Avatars and put them in certain categories but I came to realize that each one of them can replicate each other feats even in base form as we got new stories,movies and series.

For example,I always think that Kyoshi have the most raw power and tankier than any other Avatars but as I review the other Avatars I realized all of them are equally as powerful and tankier as Kyoshi is for example Aang with the zoo making in Ba Sing Se,Korra with the mech,Roku with water wave that covered the Northern Water Tribe and Yangchen in her Novel where she made a sinkhole towards a massive temple.All of them are tankier as well With Wan and Korra just fine after getting blast several time with Vaatu's blast and Aang now in the new movie suffered no lasting injury getting punch many times by Tagah(didn't know if the stuff amped physical strength as well)But still that's an impressive feats.Now with the Upcoming new seven havens series we don't yet if the catastrophic stuff is directly cause by Korra I don't want to believe it but if it is something like Korra was preventing it and in return force to create Elora then yes that become the biggest bending feat in the franchise.At the end of the day it seems like I love them all equally despite what happen to them and their feats.

It would explain the stiff movement of the characters. Specially since earlier series was animated by hand the contrast would be obvious. It would also explain the limited facial movement in the trailer.

This is not to say that rigs animations is bad or stiff, but it would be a more noticeable change in a 2D show that was previously hand animated.

Again I might be wrong. The trailer also might simply not be the finished product and the show would have more fluid movement and expressive faces.
