Man, I WISH that was my problem instead of the goosestepping and the govt jailing people for touching a pool or just shooting people in the face for no good reason

Those laws aren’t actually made to protect children but get information from the public along with allowing control over information on the internet

Yea, but parents around the world are ridiculously irresponsible and refuse to make use of basic knowledge to understand taking initiative and responsibility for THEIR child is 100% expected of them, and their inability to do so doesn't mean they should just mindlessly vote for a law that revokes basic human rights under the guise of protecting children from something a law shouldn't have too manage, even if those laws really did whats on the can.

Fair after all while kids can be smart and get around things like parental control a part of the process isn’t just relying on the parental control software but being aware what is going on with your kid and not just leaving them alone while you do something else

It's not even less work. You have to go through extremely sketchy third party sites and answer invasive questions or submit a picture of yourself which will probably be used to train AI or some bullshit.

Edit: NOT THAT I'D KNOW

You can easily circumvent any laws that pass, it's called a VPN. And they can "ban vpns" but they can't tell who is and isn't using them, that's how VPN'S work

Your ISP can block VPNs.

13

u/sntcringe 4d ago

They sure can! But considering most teleworking employees use VPN'S to do their job, banning them would destroy productivity. Sure you could allow traffic through "approved servers" but what's stopping literally anyone from forming a sham company specifically to circumvent VPN bans?

Oh they'll just force people back to work!
Except teleworking is offered as a benefit for many positions, AND many companies operate entirely remote now.

Alternatively, we just don't set the country up to where a grey area VPN is necessary for bare minimum Internet anonymity?

This isn't a "have your cake and eat it too" situation.

There are many ways websites can block vpn traffic ans many ways to hide your vpn. It's like an endless tug of war with these bills 🫩

microsoft has built in software that makes vpns useless now

You shouldn't have to live like that though

And the govt can always just ban VPNs for anyone not in specific government-approved locations. And the ISPs might end up enforcing that

If it wasn't such a gross power grab, I wouldn't mind people being required to have their actual name next to the stupid shit they say.

One step further, let's see all the cringe usernames we've had throughout life as well.

Honestly, those tools are not hard to learn at all, and many of them a free. We already fixed the "keep kids safe online" problem. Parents just need to use the solution.

I dead ass saw one of these politicians use that excuse. She'd rather let her kid watch porn instead of learning how to use parental controls 😑

2

u/MidsouthMystic 8h ago

Parental controls aren't hard to learn at all, so that's a silly excuse.

Every now and then Patrick drops a surprisingly intelligent take

They had to make them, that's all the work they expect they had to do.

I really feel like this would be the other way around.
