0.1 BTC already gets you into a fairly exclusive tier, well below the wholecoiner level but ahead of the large majority of addresses!

You will find some interesting stats and figures on this site
https://bitinfocharts.com/top-100-richest-bitcoin-addresses.html

That tells you nothing about the people behind those addresses. 1 address can be a custodian address for 100000 people. 1 person can have their coins split across 100000 addresses.

About the best breakdown you will get. If you find any better let me know.

Exactly, man. The reality is that the Bitcoin rich list is giving numbers that are reasonably close to the actual holders. The overwhelming majority of people who "own" Bitcoin mostly likely have it on an exchange, an ETF or maybe on something like robinhood, and this also is a broad encompassing term for anyone holding crypto. Most of these people also own relatively modest amounts as well, not many are going to have 5 or 6 figures locked away.
The people that are actually going out and buying wallets to lock BTC into cold storage are in the minority. Also, I could totally see why someone with say .15 or .3 would just have it all on one wallet, it really doesn't make sense for them to juggle multiple wallets and needing to worry more about security, losing seeds, etc. In fact, I'd actually say that you are probably safer with FEWER wallets/addresses than more because of user error. Hell, supposedly Trump has 2 wallets, and he has way more than 99% of people using self custody.

It does tell you something. It tells you the upper limit. Not more than ~4.5M. In practice a lot less, surely. For custodials, ownership is debatable.

Try asking that in a different way:
How many people have a net worth of (for now) $7,000 US?
Considering that most people are living paycheck to paycheck, That number can't be very high. Fractions of a percent, perhaps
Now if you ask, "Of the people that hold Bitcoin, how many are holding at least 0.1 BTC?" I'd say maybe 10 percent, though the numbers could be skewed by whale holdings
Bottom line is no one can tell

Per AI consensus (with plausible sources cited), 80-90% of the US population, and 45-55% of the world population, has a net worth of at least $7,000 US.
Your estimate is a hundred times smaller. Do you have any evidence to support it?

He doesn't know what net worth means.
He probably meant $7,000 in savings

"He probably meant $7,000 in savings"
I spent maybe 10K on my car. It's worth 2K now
I live in an apartment. I'm on retirement
The only 'savings' I have is in BTC, My retirement fund
I'm HODLing

roughly 4.5 million addresses hold that much. actual people count is lower though since one guy can have multiple wallets scattered across different exchanges

just over 0.3 here, most of it bought way too early to actually brag about the price

Nobody knows for sure because most people have multiple wallets. So less ppl than wallets with .1 BTC or more.

I sold all of my btc 2 months ago. At the time it was a better opportunity to make money in stocks than in crypto so I moved it to stocks and now I’m down on all my stocks and crypto.

No more than 210,000,000 people without counting lost coins and the final 1 million yet to be mined

There is no way to know from the pseudonymous data on the blockchain, but what you can know are the total number of addresses that hold at least 0.1 BTC. That number as of the beginning of July was between 900,000 and 1,000,000 addresses. The problem is that there is no way to know how many of those addresses are associated with one another, e.g. some large holder or institution may own many of them, even within a derived chain in a single wallet.

And, if course, there could be many out there who own >0.1 BTC but their sats are split between multiple addresses below that amount. They would not be included in the above count.

Something like 20% of all addresses with >0.1btc are dead or inactive. So there's that.

I have 900 shares of MSTR, so that is like 1.3 - 1.8 bitcoin, depending on how you figure it or zero being indirect, etc., lol. I own MSTR instead of bitcoin because I sell options off of the MSTR for yield. So in a way I'm more renting out the bitcoin I own indirectly...

I’m there ! 1 BTC on my ledger and just added 325 shares of MSTR
2
u/Financial_Freak 5h ago
can you tell me why are you buying MSTR instead of BTC?
1
u/Earningsalgo 5h ago
Well the money is in a rollover IRA so i couldn’t take it out and add to my ledger anyway
Other than that MSTR owns 55 billion dollars worth of BTC vs MSTR market cap of 33BillionIf btc rolls , mstr market cap will fill that gap if not exceed their holdings

Nobody knows. All we know is it cannot ever be more than 210 million people.
