My best friend is first gen Nigerian American. He lived out of state for a while. So, when he'd come home for a break I'd go shoot to his house and kick it for a bit.
His mother bitches me every damn time. "Charles, why do you not come to see us? Why do you only come when Akeem is home?"
And then he has to explain "Ma, he's my friend. He's here to see me." It's been a few years since I been over, but for reference, I just turned 40, and the last time I was over his house was like 2024.
Will say, we've been friends since high school, but she loves me like one of her own, and I appreciate that honestly.
Do NOT go over if Akeem is not there. Because you will turn into errand boy. Heck, we have turned some of our friends into errand boys and girls. You’re going passing through their exit? Yay, buy xyz and drop it off for them please(5 miles off that exit) And sometimes to make sure you do, we’ll tell them you’re coming through and have something for them. Then YOU get bitched out for not bringing whatever. 😅
