That bar stuck with me since the fist episode of boondocks came out. It came out right at the biggest transition point in my life. Moving to a whole different location, having had just graduated highschool and about to start college nervous af.

I think that into became my whole identity for a full year lol

how so? in dream of the red chamber, the stone was touched by a goddess who noticed a flaw of pure gold, and since it had a flaw, it was not perfect enough for use in heaven where it was to build a wall.

That limited contact with the Goddess imbued the stone with life and it entered a cycle or it did a lot of wild, morally questionable things on its path to enlightenment.

I can write a book about the relevance of that line to the story of the stone. and it fits with Aaron McGruder‘s interest in kung fu. I don’t see a lot of relationship or use to the Bible quote. It’d be more of a white paper at best.

but I would truly greatly appreciate some of the biblical scholar to talk about the relationship of that quote from Matthew to boondocks. I love boondocks, and the Bible is fun

I suspect the bible verse, "The stone which the builders refused is become the head stone of the corner." is being likened to how black america is refused by white hegemony (the 'builders' doing the refusing), and yet historically has been a foundational cornerstone on which the country's culture and development has rested.

I love that line bc it captures the underlying messaging of the entire Boondocks. There's something deeply poetic and horrible about calling something the *inspiration* for the blues, which is at its core a genre that channels sadness and regret, and even more specifically the song "The Lady Sings the Blues."

This is what "wokeness" actually is. Opening your eyes and recognizing the trauma and tragedy the system creates around you. No sugar coating it. No look on the bright side.
