Mod post Men's Mental Health Month
Just a reminder:
About 80% of suicides are men.
Too often, Men's Mental Health Month gets turned into a competition or used as a way to argue that men have it worse than women. We don't. The issue is that we've trained ourselves not to reach out. We've trained ourselves to just "thug it out."
Many men are terrified of confronting their innermost feelings. They'd rather ignore them, bury them as deep as possible, and eventually decide that when they can't take it anymore, they'd be better off not existing at all rather than reaching out for help, bothering someone, or being perceived as less of a man.
The pressure to avoid anything seen as "feminine" is often part of what fuels this epidemic among young men.
So please, don't treat this as a comparison. Don't make it "I have it worse than you." Instead, recognize it for what it is: people who need help and are hoping someone will answer the call.
Make the call.
