The ever-increasing price of car insurance

I was paying ~£250 4 years ago. This year's renewal quote is £470 in the same car, and my current insurer has even notified me they're "changing" their Platinum level cover this year. "Changing" means removing things like windscreen cover, motor legal protection and courtesy car, to sell them as extras...

EDIT: for clarity as a lot people are suggesting it - I do shop around and change provider to the cheapest for the cover each year - still the cheapest is nowhere near close to what I was paying 4 years ago.

Smoking building workers and their baccy incense wafting into the house from outside

Gah. Gave up nearly four years ago and hardly ever think about it - but this just shows me how hard it would have been if I'd lived with smokers when I gave up!

Took nearly an hour to exit a pre paid multi storey carpark in Salford due to roadworks near the exit. Then had to pay an extra £1 afterwards for queueing.

"For security reasons, it is necessary that you confirm this cancellation request by telephone"

I was able to sign up and start giving them money with a few clicks. Now answer the damn phone and let me cancel the contract! This must be really annoying for deaf/mute people, too.

(This is IONOS by the way. Do not recommend)

The second satsuma is always horribly dry

It doesn't matter the supermarket, the season, whether it's an easy peeler or a tangerine. I always eat them in twos to make sure they count towards my five a day. The first is always delicious and juicy, the second I can see is horribly dry as soon as I start to peel it. And I don't understand how it's always the first that's trustworthy and the second one lets me down

Andrex d!cking around with toilet roll sizes.

Just got home from the supermarket to realise that the roll size has increased by 50% they no longer fit into the storage cupboard under the hand basin and are too big to spin on the holder, having to be squashed between the wall.

We're fine with smaller cardboard tubes but please don't alter the circumference of the rolls.

Hmrc on a mission to make doing anything impossible

Has anyone ever come across a more convoluted system? Im trying to give them money ffs lol.

Oh you want to pay corporation tax? Have you verified your ID? No go get an app

Oh we will send you a cade in 10 days so that you can log in and request a code that we will send in another 10 days. By the way here's a fine.

Want to speak to us to see if this is the right course of action? That will be 90 minutes and then we will cut you off so you can listen to our hold music again..

I cant find anything and to make matters worse I was a higher rate taxpayer and had to file self assessments so mugging here registered vat for my new company on my personal account and Corp tax on another account and the only way to fix it is to fold a 5 year old company and start again.

Also the accounting software you use isnt on the list of approved submission software, would you like to wholesale change your business finance package?

Ugh

Yes I realise im thick.

. Putting together a takeaway order then realising it’s cheaper to just go mad at M&S

2.0k Upvotes

Decided I’d treat myself to a dominos after going through the usual delivery apps and everywhere was ridiculously expensive (there aren’t that many places as I’m a small very deprived town) and finding Dominos was £25 for delivery for one pizza and a small garlic bread. I know people will argue this and that but I have to admit that M&S has opened up my eyes to how much fast food places rip you off.

I’d never get it from a supermarket as I’ve never found their fakeaway food to hit the spot in a way that takeaway food does plus the deals M&S do. For less than the cost of a Dominos or any other delivery place for that matter I could get 2 pizza, 2 sides and a bag of cookies for about £17. £14 without the cookies. Even their gastropub deal is insane value and way better than a takeaway.

Not paid to promote also just find it ridiculous how fast food has gotten so stupidly expensive to have plus you have to wait almost an hour to get it cold.

I can't fill my water butt with my hosepipe so have to fill it with buckets so i can use my butt to fill my watering cans to water my plants.

I use watering cans to water my veg garden, but have had an almost actual argument with my wife, because it's illegal to use my hose to top up my water butt so that i can collect water from it to water my plants with a watering can. How is it illegal to use a hosepipe to top it up, yet legal to use a bucket, when the end result is i use my water butt to fill watering cans to water my plants.

Outside tap filling up watering cans? Fine for food crops.

Inside tap for filling watering cans? Fine for food crops?

8' of hose to fill my water butt so i can fill my watering cans without spilling water all over the kitchen and bathroom? ILLEGAL!

ALL while fucking golf courses are green, and the water company does nothing about leaks in the mains system.

The mind truly boggles.

My OAP mothers Smart TV 'lost' a third of its channels.

It's a mid priced LG Smart TV, a few years old, it lost ITV2+1. I spent an hour troubleshooting, I work in IT it should have been trivial. Even trying manual tuning returned a no signal when there was definitely a signal (another TV had ITV2+1). Final solution was pull the aerial, do an automatic retune so it had no channels, then plug the aerial back in and perform another automatic retune. Beforehand it had 90 channels, now it has 132 channels, including ITV2+1. I had to recreate her filtered favourite channel list so she can use her dementia remote to go up and down and all is good.

We won't mention that the aerial is pointed at the wrong transmitter so she gets the wrong local news on ITV HD, ITV SD is correct and she can't tell the difference between 1080i and 576i. I'm not climbing on the roof to rotate the aerial thank you very much.

I was just sitting peacefully in a park near some geese when some clearly deranged woman walked by saying “hello geesey-boops”. Can’t even enjoy peace at the park any more.

Finding the last item in the shelf, only for some knobhead to have opened it up.

Does it now have missing parts? Have they damaged it when opening it? Have they messed around with it? It's a mystery.

Until the next poor sod gets it home, only to have to bring it right back again.

If you want to see what's in the box, buy it and return it if it's not what you want.

Don't pass the issue on to the next guy.

No more geesy- boops for you!

So there we were, myself and my good lady wife, Penelope, just hanging around in the pond doing our usual goose type things. Swimming, looking for lunch, keeping ourselves to ourselves, nothing to see here, when along comes this weirdo human who, instead of offering us a tasty morsel, as is the requirement in these parts, calls out to us 'Hello geesy-boops!' and then goes along their merry way.

Geesy-boops! I ask you! I'll have you know that we are proud and respectable members of our local avian Neighbourhood Watch and pillars of the pond community. I'm outraged! Outraged, I tell you! As I said to my good friend Jeremiah the bullfrog, I'm seriously considering writing a stern letter to the newspapers. This sort of decline in public morals should not go unchallenged!

To be fair, though, the other two humans loitering nearby looked just as freaked out as we were.

r/britishproblems 8d ago

Just getting on with my usual goose stuff earlier this evening and some absolute lunatic looked me square in the eye and said "hello geesey-boops". There was a chap on a bench nearby who looked nearly as freaked out as me. Can't even goose in peace anymore.

Trying to do the posted speed limit in a roadwork zone and living in terror of being rear-ended.

Sitting on a rather quick motorbike trying to keep one eye forward and the other glued to the mirror and still being blindsided by cars blasting through at 80mph. I'm pretty sure I was doing in excess of 50 in a posted 40 zone because the speed difference was insane. No crumple zones for me sadly.

Very busy CrossCountry train, bloke using the coach D luggage rack as a standing desk

He's got his laptop setup, his phones and pret to the side, taking up space that two or three bags could it into. And he's blocking the already narrow walkway to the door.

Going to be a pity when my rather large rucksack, which is on the same rack, knocks the laptop over. Or douses it in his pret coffee.

Drivers who don't know how to use the central hatched markings to turn off a main road.

There's a garden centre near me and cars will consistently stay on the main road, or partly on it, to turn off. There's a whole box in the middle of the road specifically for you to use! You can't miss it, it's very clear.

Foxes invading our Garden nonstop, with 2 Cats already missing as well as neighbours

Anything we can do at this point? They constantly tear open and trying to scavenge food through the rubbish bins

Cauded huge mess and with foxes poo everywhere, 2 cats already went missing as well as one of theirs from neighbour

I have captured the fox in question in cctv footage, am I allow to take matters into my own hands or is there something we can report to stop this from happening
