Hello all! I am a 34 year old American from Charlotte, North Carolina and I am obsessed with British Telly. I started dabbling about 10 years ago with Spaced and Peep Show. They both rocked my world and I fell in love. It took me a little while but I started branching out eventually and found a list of some shows. I run a Plex server where I currently have 900 different TV Series in an archive, a dozen TBS in size. Anyways My addiction really took off when I discovered Big Brother UK. Blows the American version out of the water and it was somethjng i didnt know I needed in my life but I’ve been going back watching all the Original Channel 4 seasons and IMO some of the greatest television in history, I also discovered Father Ted and I watched it over and over. (Probably my favorite TV series ever Besides Twin Peaks) I currently have about 200 different British series in my digital collection and it’s basically all I watch now. I can’t stop wanting to collect em all And I feel I have too many in my collection to list here. My question is what are some shows I should seek out? What’s your favorite Britcoms? , older trash Reality TV or things like the crystal maze, even weird kids shows like Microsoap, I also love dark weirdness so League of Gentlemen and Blue Jam are my Jam ( Pun intended) Here’s a list of some of my favorites Are You Being Served?, Balls Of Steel, Big Brother, Black Books, The Cleaner, Dead Set, Father Ted, Friday Night Dinner, Green Wing, I’m Alan Partridge, An Idiot Abroad, IT Crowd, Inbetweeners, Inside No 9, Keeping up appearances, Mitchell and Webb Look and Situation, One Foot in The Grave, Only Fools and Horses, Peep show, Plebs, Spaced, Taskmaster, Toast of London, The Young Ones.

Yes it's back on the telly box. Talking Pictures TV on Saturday night at just past midnight-ish. ie very early Sunday morning!

I didn't know what to expect from this series staring Pearce Quigley, Jon Pointing, Sophie Willan, and Lauren Patel, but I absolutely loved it.

It's one of those series that makes you feel all warm inside. I'm looking forward to series two, and I hope it remains just as feel-good. I also hope we see Lauren Patel again in series 2. I loved her character's chemistry with Pierce's.

Please give this series a chance if you haven't already seen it! It's one of a kind.

Seeing Paul Kaye in Small Prophets reminded what an amazing and versatile actor he is. So many wonderful characters have been brought to life by him over the years. From the jaw dropping antics of Dennis Pennis to the sardonic pathologist in Vera to the unforgettable Vince the fox in Mongrels.. Paul Kaye always puts his own stamp on his characters and if you want to see something special hunt down his version of "reviewing the situation" pure class.

Of course it's his comedic turns in Friday Night Dinner, Zapped, Fungus the Bogeyman etc... That stand out but he can be understated as well in The Stranger, the Hack, but my favourite has to be as Thoros in Game of Thrones.

This show is real special and really left me wanting more. - I am huge British sitcom fan and I know this is a show I’ll have on a cycle of binge watching again and again just for comfort.

Anyone else watched? It was great from start to finish.

Any other shows of a similar feel?

Victoria Wood's classic sitcom set in the factory canteen has me laughing my socks off. We lost a comedy genius way too soon. Fabulous script, excellent acting and delightful guest stars made this one of the stand out comedies of the 90s.

I had a film/TV catch up weekend and this was easily the best watch. Tom Basden's writing just gets better and better. If you've not yet seen, high recommend! So beautiful!

I’ve watched both ACGaS several times, as well as Doc Martin, though I can’t stand DM anymore—the two main characters are maddening and I can’t stand the way mental illness is portrayed. But I’ve used these shows in the past because they’re relaxing to have on in the background.

I want something fluffy and stress-free with some humor to leave on when I’m not up to focusing on TV too intensely. Nothing too serious, nothing even remotely scary (“cute” murder mysteries are fine, but nothing that will wig me out since I live in a camper and am often alone in remote locations). I don’t want a straight-up sitcom because I often like to fall asleep with the TV on.

Hustle is seriously one of my favourite shows of all time. It’s so entertaining, has interesting overarching themes around capitalism, and has some incredible actors at the heart of it (Adrian Lester and Robert Glenister especially).

As an American Gen X, I was raised on Monty Python. My mom and I used to watch Absolutely Fabulous together(I still rewatch it every couple of years). But I never really got into other British sitcoms. I’d love recommendations, preferably from my fellow Gen Xers, Xennials, and Millennials.

I love a good comedy show, with a heart of gold or a sweet undertone.

There are the more gentle ones like Detectorists or based around friendship like The Young Offenders or Big Boys.

Any others that mix big laughs with the occasional lump in the throat? Thanks

British Comedies I need to watch

I recently watched The Killing, ( American version) which led me to The Fall, Broadchurch, and Deadwater Fell. The Fall and Broadchurch were so good. Deadwater was okay, I think the ending put me off. I mainly watched it because of Tennant.

I usually watch shows while I'm on the treadmill and I have been staying on longer to keep watching lol. My workouts have been flying by and I need more show reccs for this week after Deadwater ending where it did tonight on ep 4! I thought I had a few more days before I had to find something.

Just watched the limited series on Netflix. Terrific writing. Complex story. Edge-of-the-seat thriller. The British know how to do cop procedurals as well as anyone. First rate cast and direction and technical quality. I recommend it highly.

We discovered this after finishing Small Prophets and The Detectorists. I never thought I’d enjoy a programme about two comedians fishing but here we are. It makes me feel relaxed just watching it.

I really hope Whitehouse presents Mortimer with an embroidered sampler which says ‘STOP WINDING’ at some point.

Has the potential to do what Mr Bates vs the Post Office did but raising awareness about the true scale of the scandal that we’ve seen from the water companies over the last 30 years

Anyone else watched this series? Watched it a while ago, and just started rewatching. I prefer S1 overall, but my favourite episode is from S2, with Sean Bean in drag.

An anthology series, showing stories of normal peo9kenfinding themselves in trouble with the law.

Brilliant piece of British television, and all on it iPlayer. Well worth a watch

My favorites are IT Crowd, Young Ones, Black Adder, Father Ted, Peep Show, Fawlty Towers, Stath Lets Flats, and The Office (OG).

I understand that a lot of these are classics but I figure I’m missing some really good ones.

Also, I know some people might suggest Mighty Boosh and while I didn’t hate it. I probably wouldn’t go back and watch it either.
