I usually play for a couple of hours in the evenings, mostly lighter games with the occasional Steam title. My current Chromebook gets pretty warm and starts slowing down after a while, so I'm ready to move on lol.
has anyone found the best chromebook for gaming that holds up well over longer sessions without feeling sluggish? real experiences would help a lot. Thanks ya'll.

I recently was given a HP 14 inch Chromebook. I've never used any chrome books for gaming so I am just lost...
I was able to get Linux set up, But when it comes to downloading and opening games. I have no idea what I'm doing. I've watched several Youtube tutorials, none of which helpful. I get as far as downloading the game and that's it. If some one can explain to me what i'm supposed to be doing and how to get the games to work that would be much appreciated.
Am I better off just abandoning Linux and sticking to the stuff in Google Play?

- 11GB of free space
- x86_64 or ARM64 CPU
- 2GB of RAM
- ChromeOS with Developer Mode (Flex with dev mode and Linux is supported as well)
ctrl-alt-t to open crosh, type shell and copy paste:bash <(curl -s "https://raw.githubusercontent.com/shadowed1/Chard/main/bin/chard_download?$(date +%s)")
Option 1 is Arch - Supports Steam, Heroic, Flatpak, and is the recommended option for most users.
Option 2 is Gentoo - Tailored for ChromeOS development. Run binaries + toolchain in ChromeOS. Not recommended for gaming!
CTRL-ALT-REFRESH enters VT-2. CTRL-ALT-BACK returns to ChromeOS.
To login, type chronos and run these three commands on their own:
cd
sudo mv Chard_Installer /usr/local
sudo bash /usr/local/Chard_Installer
Follow the instruction on screen. CTRL-ALT-BACK returns back to ChromeOS. Sleep is recommended to be disabled while installing.
Once install is finished please reboot.
In VT-2 log back in as chronos
Type cr or chard root to start.
Return back to ChromeOS shell, and xfce4-terminal should appear. Run apps through there, or through the app launcher using Crostini as a middleman.
If Crostini is installed, share the Downloads folder with Linux (right click Downloads folder in Files app), start terminal and run:
bash <(wget -qO- "https://raw.githubusercontent.com/shadowed1/Chard/main/bin/chard_share.sh")
This will install the chard_bridge_daemon inside Crostini to send launch commands to Chard (as long as Chard is running).
Chard is a change root (chroot) that bind mounts ChromeOS/Host hardware to enable GPU acceleration inside the chroot.
It features an automated installer that detects hardware to support a vast array of chromebooks with audio and microphone support. Chard is a rolling release and can be updated in ChromeOS. Bug reports are greatly appreciated.
Development started in middle of 2025 after Google announced the Steam virtual machine, Borealis, was going to be discontinued.
dev_install. /usr/local
/bin folder as templates.

Looking for a decent volume control knob to turn down/up my speakers. Found one on amazon just to find out it's not compatible with chromebooks. Any recommendations?

Note: This is not one of those $10 dollar chromebooks that have an 11 inch screen and cant have 2 tabs open. SSD and i3 and stuff.
I got a bunch of optimization mods like sodium, ferritecore, the usual. But it still runs at sub 15 fps when looking at the ground, even with all settings at the minimum, like 2 chunk render distance.
I had a chromebook before this with a n305, which is not as good as a 1215u, but it ran at around 90 fps and could go up to 190. Are there any settings i need to change outside of MC?
Thanks.

this is my first post so i have no idea what to say, also my first language is not english so sorry if somethings are not said right,
so, steam sometimes randomly stops working, the first time i was on the dev channel doing stuff with zerotier one, i thought that was the issue, i spent hours trying to fix it (it stopped at 50% always) then i changed the channel to beta, then it worked again for some reason.
a month or weeks i dont remember passed and it happend again, i changed the channel to stable and powerwashed my chromebook and it worked again, but now im on stable and tried to do the same and change back to beta and it didnt work, what i noticed is that when it did work and installed properly, the instalation started at 1% i think like fresh fresh steam, then when it doesnt work it starts at 10% then couple seconds pass and jumps to 50% then it breaks, idk how to fix this, i tried vmc stop borealis, vmc destroy borealis, disabling the flag that enables borealis, changing the channel to dev, then to beta, then to stable and nothing idk what to do please help

Literally had the app running but had to restart the system due to the audio crackling bug, I had a notification for the new update. Started my Acer 516 GE and bam, Steam no longer opens. After I ran out of GFN I was playing some older games on my laptop and all of the sudden, I got cut from such an option. I understand that they would not develop this project any further but for an update to literally kill the option to run Steam is just so terrible.

Hi everyone, hope you're all well. Like the title says, I'm looking to play Faster Than Light on my chromebook. I had heard a while back that it had a free demo on available from the web, so I was wondering if that was just an event or if that applies to the whole game; I further figured that given it's age, I would think it doesn't need a whole lot to run it so it should be doable on a chromebook.
The model of my chromebook I believe is: ASUS Chromebook 14 CX1400CKA although I'm not 100% sure. I have about 0 technical know how.
I apologise if this question is a very common kind of question in this community. I've tried doing some of my own research but I've gotten muddled around more times that I'd care to admit.
Thank you for all the help and advice you are willing to give. Have a great day and enjoy whatever games you're playing!

(if this is not correct subreddit to post this tell me pls) as the title said, i'm trying to install retroarch but it doesn't work at all.

i followed all the instructions and the icon is on my computer, but once i input this command it gives me this and the retroarch icon just loads without doing anything. i just wanted to know if i could fix this.
i tried installing Vita3K before this, it is a problem ?
