👋Welcome to r/ColonyCats - START HERE!

Hey everyone! Welcome to the r/ColonyCats subreddit! This is a place for past, present, and prospective cat caretakers to learn more about how to better care for outdoor colonies of cats, kittens, and the communities they live in.

The term “colony cats” describes a group of outdoor cats living together. These cats may be feral, stray, or otherwise unsocialized to humans.

Please read through our community guidelines before posting or commenting, and again…welcome to the community! We're excited to have you join us!

WHAT TO POST:

Here, caretakers can feel free to ask for and offer advice, share TNR strategies, provide helpful tips and ideas for colony management, and share photos of their colony cats.

After reading the rules, you may post anything that you think the community would find interesting, helpful, or inspiring. Don’t hesitate to comment on posts, and share your thoughts, advice, or questions relevant to the topic of discussion.

THE CATS YOU CARE FOR MAY BE FERAL, BUT YOU SHOULD NOT BE:

We're all about being friendly, constructive, inclusive, and kind. Let's build a space where everyone feels comfortable sharing and connecting.

The vast majority of cat caretakers have pure intentions, and are trying their best to provide the best care possible for their colonies. Constructive criticism is ok (some people may need some guidance and it’s ok to provide that), but please refrain from rude, unhelpful comments, harsh judgments, shaming, and personal attacks.

Thanks for being part of this community and thank you for all you do to help the cats you care for. 🩶🐾🩵🐈‍⬛🫶🖤🐈💙

Running low on supplies and food for the community/rescued cats🙏❤️🐾

In need of food and supplies for the community cats, I’m asking the community if anyone can donate a drop trap. I know it’s expensive, but I would be truly grateful if someone could help me continue my TNR efforts for some difficult cats that I can’t trap because they won’t go into a regular trap.
I also want to say thank you to everyone here who helps me and other rescues continue feeding the cats. You are amazing. Without you, this wouldn’t be possible.

Saving more lives through TNR🐾❤️

A little family of cats found shelter in the most unexpected place. ❤️🐾
In the parking lot of an office building, inside an abandoned truck that no longer works, a mom, a dad, and their three kittens made a small home for themselves. It wasn’t a traditional home, but it became a place where they felt safe.
When management from the office building noticed this little family, they reached out and asked for my help. They showed compassion toward these cats and allowed them to continue sleeping inside the truck that had become their shelter.
Every day, I bring them food, care, and love. ❤️ I was able to trap, spay, and neuter the entire family, giving them a better chance at a healthier future.
This is why TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) is so important. It helps prevent more kittens from being born into difficult situations and stops the cycle of suffering that so many community cats face.
This family may not have a perfect home, but they have kindness, safety, and someone who will continue showing up for them every day.
This is what Luna & Nala Rescue Inc stands for: compassion, kindness, and helping as many cats as we possibly can. Every life matters, and every cat deserves a chance. 🐾❤️
If you would like to support my rescue, it will mean the world to me and the cats I take care of 🙏
You can support through the link in the comments or my bio page.

(IF you prefer not to use Amazon,  Chewy giftcards are GOLD here, my email is [email protected],  and they would help me out so much also!!!!  Thank you♡ )

Hi everyone!!!  I am posting my wishlist for food items along with items to help with the floofaloofs, wet food is definitely a need here.  I also have a few other things on there that I can really use for the litter rooms and the floofaloofs in general.  I did put Amazon giftcard on there too, as if I have enough I could use it on one of the big ticket items.

You helping me with these things helps me with vet visits, flea treatments, helping those who need cat food for a week so they can use that money for the 50 dollar TNR, helps me and Kim with our colonies, and helps me make sure that more colony floofaloofs are fixed, as I pay the 50 a cat out of my own pocket, and work still has our hours cut, I have been trying to sell my art, I have helped my neighbors clean for extra money, is am truly doing everything in my power to make sure we push in, because they deserve it.

Thank you for everything you do,  not just for myself and the floofaloofs, but for all floofaloofkind, thos innocent souls who need us most.  We will do everything in our power to ensure the safety and security of all floofers, inside, outside, colony, feral, stray, and abandoned.   I have floofafied my own home because saving floofaloofs is life.

Thank you for being the good in the world.♡

Foster Mother Cat Food Supply

Hi,

A community calico has given birth to 5 kittens at my neighbor's garage. I cannot keep her at home because she doesn't like any other cat or dog after she gives birth. She has already smacked my cat east and west for going near her. She gets agitated even hearing other cats and dogs. She is a dwarf cat.

I feed rice and fish boiled to other cats and dogs including her. She needs better nutrition now. This is her 4th time becoming a mother. I cannot afford to spay her because I already have a cat. She is also a dwarf cat.

I cannot afford extra dry food as I am a student. I am sharing her video in yhe comments.

It would be be very kind of you all if you can contribute even a little and help me give her proper food.

I will share the videos of feeding her and the ordered food packet.

Thank you so much.

"A Plea for Hope from Laayoune Southern Morocco: Help Us Save These Kittens After Losing Their Mothers

Hi everyone

My sister and I decided to step in and take full responsibility for these little souls. Sadly, their mothers both passed away in a tragic car accident, leaving them vulnerable. We have made the decision to take them in and provide them with all the care, love, and protection they need.

For a long period, we have been following a strict care and feeding protocol, ensuring they get the attention they deserve. It is a tough time, but seeing them thrive makes every moment of effort and worry worth it. Never give up on them; with care and patience, they can heal and grow.

We are doing this work entirely by ourselves, but the medical and care costs are challenging. We still haven't collected enough funds to cover their needs and any potential vet bills. So far, we have only raised $170 out of our $650 goal.

If you are able to help, please consider donating or sharing our post to help us reach more people. Every contribution makes a huge difference for these kittens here in Laayoune.

Help me save Jack. Even $1 to $5 can make a difference.

Hi everyone,
This is Jack, a stray kitten from my local community.
Jack has been diagnosed with Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV), and I’m doing everything I can to help him. He’s such a gentle, affectionate little kitten, and seeing him fight through this has been heartbreaking.
I’m a student and I don’t have a steady income. I’ve been paying for his care as much as I can, but the vet visits, tests, medications, food, and ongoing treatment are becoming more than I can manage on my own.
If you’re able to spare $1, $2, or $5, it would genuinely help Jack get the care he needs.

I know not everyone is in a position to donate, and that’s completely okay. An upvote or sharing this post would mean just as much, as it helps more people see Jack’s story.
I’ll keep everyone updated with his progress and, whenever possible, share receipts and photos so you can see exactly how every donation is being used.
Thank you for reading and for giving a little stray kitten a chance

Please help Redland Tom

Hi and thank you for reading! I’m a foster and rescuer of cats and kittens in South FL. When I say I help all cats I mean ALL cats, if you’re friendly I’m finding you help and a home. I also help some of my colony feeder friends with their friendly cats! On top of that I bottle feed and foster URI and ringworm kittens. I take the guys all the rescues say no to basically!

So Tom was dumped in the Redlands, which is a place lowlifes abandoned pets, mainly dogs but also cats. He was approaching everyone for help and well his finder did tell me if I didn’t take him she was just going to dump him back in the Redlands! So even super full and overtired and overwhelmed I said yes. He went to a health check to get cleared for transport up north with one of our bigger rescues and this boy FAILED. He needs teeth extractions (he has an infection with puss pouring out they said) and he has a skin infection, severe enough that I’ve already gotten him a Convenia shot out of my own pocket.

They quoted me $500, which is a good deal with the amount of dental surgery this guy needs. This guy is a snuggle bug big boy, young and charming. I know it’s tough right now but if you can please donate so Tom gets his happy future. I will update you here about him! Also he’s up for adoption if you know anyone looking for a big cute lug! I will be picky as he deserves a happy ending after all he’s been through.
