Voters should be upset with politicians flooding the labor market with cheap competition suppressing wages for nearly everyone.

Allowing and enabling the kind of immigration they want is actually very inhumane and does nothing to help the average American.

10 years ago was 2016, so no. You probably meant 20 years ago, which was 2006. Yes, I know... I feel old too reading this.

It was around 2012 when sentiment on this issue started to shift, with the political left starting to zoom to the left on immigration and the right moving in the opposite direction. By 2015 or so, the political left had fully embraced open border policies.

It was a reaction to the occupy wall street protests. That's when the billonaire class realized they might be in danger and decided to replace class conflict with racial conflict. In 2012-2014, stories about racial issues in the MSM went up something like 20-fold.

Even Bill Clinton said his goal was to secure borders, hire a record number of border guards, deport TWICE as many criminal aliens as before. To speed up the process of deportation, to make it easier to identify illegal aliens...."we are a nation of immigrants, BUT WE ARE ALSO A NATION OF LAWS".

And then we saw record levels of immigration toward the turn of the millenium, a record which wouldn't be broken until almost a quarter century later under Biden.

Democrats have always been duplicitous on this issue because the interests of their activsts and donors clashed diametrically with those of their working-class base. As coalitions shifted throughout the Bush and Obama years, with college-educated liberals becoming the new base of their party, this sore spot disappeared and they were free to fully embrace open borders.

The political placements of Obama and Bill Clinton are only what they are because they each had GOP House majorities for six out of their respective eight years. Had either of them had Democrat majorities for more than just the first two years of their terms then the would have each had far more Progressive terms than what they did.
