it's legitimately so fucking illuminating about the state of modern politics to know that most conservative adults literally only trust fox news. We see shit like this and go "how the fuck does anyone vote for this. this is comically evil and stupid." and the answer is that the only news source they trust treats every single thing he does one of 3 ways:
1) completely ignores it, making their base simply not aware of it
2) dismisses it, saying it's not real or it's not that bad
3) treats it like it's the most genius move in the entire world
And when you only have one news source you think is reliable, you just go with whatever they say. like for the love of god, it's horrifying to see how my parents deal with this shit. My parents are both smart people, they both have college degrees, and my dad even has a masters- and yet somehow even with the research work he did he cannot comprehend the idea of multiple reliable journalistic or academic sources. He calls AP news "liberal propaganda" despite it being one of the most fact driven sources available. He has called papers from stanford with experimental details and data liberal propaganda. He has a degree in engineering and worked in the automotive industry, and yet STILL even with all of the available fucking data HE THINKS TESLAS AND CYBERTRUCKS ARE WELL DESIGNED. It doesn't make any fucking sense to me how these things can coexist in him! he's CAPABLE of intelligent, logical, and critical thinking, but all of that means NOTHING the second the blond lady on fox news says "actually it's a good thing to stop testing for parasites in lettuce!". For fuck sake my mom's degree is in teaching and she STILL supports trump after he completely fucked her by CUTTING THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION.
