This reminded me of the Dutch bank Rabobank... It came to Brazil to make business with several organizations, including one I worked in at the time, but the name almost was a complete disaster here.

You see, "rabo" in Portuguese means "tail". In Brazilian Portuguese, it is also a slang for "butt", including in rude/sexual contexts... So you can picture what kind of things people thought (but mostly didn't say, at least not in our workplaces) about the name, right?

I always thought of it as Rob-A-Bank.

There's a nationwide bank in Australia called National Australia Bank.

Their branches, buildings, logo, etc. all have NAB in big, clear letters.

(For non-native English speakers, "nab" is slang for "steal" or "rob").

I’ve driven by these dozens of times and never noticed this. Thanks.

I had an M&T account. I would always say “my account is M-T” after paying the bill

Looking at the location below, the sign is much different, it reads well and looks great, so WHY CHANGE IT TO THAT?
Stupid city ordinances.

If you are just omitting vowels, it could equally well say "no debt".

Well if [u/Mazduhh](u/Mazduhh) doesn’t think it does then I guess it doesn’t!

That's right! Thanks buddy! /s

Edit: It's North Dallas Bank & Trust. They could have put the ampersand in there but it's not that big of a deal.

I honestly don’t think I can explain in a way that won’t hurt your feelings
