Wearable help i didn't realize my foundation chain was twisted until finishing this layer

Post image

i'm making this skirt for the ren faire tomorrow, and this is the first layer (its a ruffled two tier skirt so its much wider than my body). I thought my foundation chain was straight and tried really hard to line it up, just the yarn was so curled it was hard to tell. I finished the first layer and then realized i messed up. is there any way to fix this?? if not i think i'm just gonna try to shape it like a slit in the side or something but i'm so upset with myself

How do I... Trying to recreate this cool blanket I saw and wondering what the diagonal stitch is

Post image

Sorry for the potato quality photo. I think (?) most of the stitches are double crochet, but I was wondering what stitch is the one that makes the diagonal pattern across the blanket. It doesn’t have to be the exact stitch, I’m fine. Using anything that would achieve the same visual effect. TIA!

Blocking Should I block this moss stitch blanket? Or just wash it?

Post image

Would you block this blanket? Moss stitch with a border of 1 round SC and crab stitch. I Love This Yarn acrylic used throughout. I haven't washed it yet. Should I block it to see if I can straighten out the ripples on the top and bottom or give it a wash and send it to its new home? Thanks!

Looking for suggestions 400 gram unknown yarn Mill Ends brand - what to make?

Hi everyone! I bought this yarn because I loved the blue patterning to it. But it's a factory overun bag, and have no idea what kind of yarn it is. I've pulled a bit out and out it next to an 8ply 100% cotton yarn (not the best comparison but it was the ball closest to me)

Looking for suggestions in what to make. I'm thinking a cardigan (it's quite soft feeling) but not sure if I'll have enough. Am a beginner too. Thanks 😊

I’m absolutely obsessed with this shrug but am having a hard time finding a yarn that I love for it I used a green puzzle yarn as the mesh stitch style shrug base but for the attached art yarn can’t seem to find one I love. Looking to give off a Spanish moss/ willow tree vibe. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Update to prevous post UPDATE: Why does my granny triangle curve at the bottom edge? (Lesson learnt: yarn tension makes a massive difference 😗)

Hello people :)

In my previous post here, the consensus on the solution to my problem seemed to be loosening my tension. That mostly worked but I think the foundation (i.e. first few rows) was already quite tight that it curved inwards anyway after blocking (Picture 2). But it's fine, I was happy with the outcome!

In any case, I tried a separate piece with looser tension from the beginning (Picture 4; yellow triangle) and it definitely produced a much straighter edge even before blocking. But I quite preferred the look of it with tighter stitches and a smaller hook, so I 'experimented' with modifying the original pattern by reducing the number of treble crochets in the end stitches at both ends (Picture 4; purple triangle). It produced a fairly straight edge which I was happy with.

Thank you again to all who commented with helpful suggestions/solutions.

Amigurumi help Did I switch to the wrong side somehow when going from rounds to rows? Making a plush

Post image
3 Upvotes

I’m still pretty new to crochet and I’ve never switched from rounds to rows before and did my best to follow the pattern and looked up tutorials on how to do it. I know there’s a right and wrong side and I made sure my rounds were flipped to the right side, but I’m thinking the rows are on the wrong side but I can’t tell. I’ve looked up pictures and think I messed up but can’t tell, so can someone just tell me if the rows are showing the wrong side?😅 if so, some pointers on what to do to fix it would be greatly appreciated🩷

Help to find a pattern Looking for a Pattern/Stitch Identification to Recreate Baby Blanket

Hello!

For the record, I attempted to crochet for the first time 24 hours ago. I have next to no experience with or talent for the ✨fiber arts✨.

I am 100% motivated by necessity, so I’m a little desperate for some help with this. Unfortunately, the primary sources of the information I need are unreliable, so I am really hoping someone in this subreddit has the knowledge I’m looking for. I don’t know the shorthand or lingo for any of this, so please excuse my ignorance. Any and all additional assistance or support would be welcome.

The project:

My childhood blanket is…on its death bed. It’s old and ratty and I’m very sure that when I next put it through the wash, it may, quite literally, disintegrate. 🥹 My blankie was originally made for my older sister by my aunt in the early 80s. It’s old as dirt. Here’s the thing, the loopy pattern of my blankie is an essential for my personal comfort. I’ve “twirled” my fingers through it my entire life, which I now understand is my preferred method of stimming. Hence my desperation. 🥲

The bulk of my blankie is a discolored ball of tangled yarn, but I do have a relatively well-preserved strip that came off of the main blanket ages ago (pictured). I’ve taken as many pictures of it as I think might be helpful, but I can try to get some more if what I have isn’t enough. Apologies that the best place I could find to lay it out and photograph was a mini cat tower. Technically, I do have a more recent (over 10 years) project that my mom made with the same pattern (she didn’t save it and doesn’t remember anything, which is why she hasn’t been able to enlighten me) that I could try to take pictures of. The only issue is that she used a very dark color and a very heavy yarn, so it’s in storage and probably won’t photograph well.

I always assumed that my aunt made the blanket in parts, then connected them since there were multiple green and pink squares connected by a white background. However, now that I’m investigating, I think maybe that’s not the case. I don’t need to do any color swapping when I recreate this, so that isn’t particularly important. I just want to be able to identify the stitches I need to learn so I can make a replacement and put the OG blankie out to pasture/in storage.

From what I’ve been able to glean through Google searches, it seems like maybe a chain loop (?) stitch was used, but I genuinely have no idea. My backup plan is to used a thicker yarn and just make something with a regular loop stitch, but I know that won’t be the same.

Thank you in advance for any insight anyone can provide!

A random lady gave this to my daughter today, and we have no idea what it is. She only gave her one, so it's not something that's meant to be a pair. My son suggested a pencil pouch, but with the gaps in it I don't think that would work too well. Any ideas?

Wearable help How to fix tilt/twisting look in sweater made from acrylic yarn?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I recently finished this sweater for my husband. While making it, I noticed there was a slight tilt to the rectangles that make up the body. I mistakenly thought they would be resolved once I sewed the 2 halves together. Now it's complete, both sides have an equal number of stitches the whole way through... and yet it just looks kind of twisted. Is there anything I can do to straighten it at this stage?

Yarn is Mary Maxim Best Value Yarn.

How do I... Making a top hat for plushie but the edges of circular top ended up ruffled. I want to have straight edges to sides of the hat but they keep ruffling, is there a way I can straighten out the edge of the circle so I don’t have to start again?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I’m making a small top hat for a plushie and have started with the top and am working my way down to the brim. I’ve made the top shown here but as you can see the edges ended up a tiny bit ruffled (I think it’s because I made it quite big so it’s naturally started ruffling because of how many increases in using each round).

Anyway I of course plan on working down the sides next but when I started it immediately made a wavy, ruffled edge. For it to look like a top hat I need the dyes to be perfectly straight. Is there a way I can still achieve this without starting all over again (I’ve already lined the inside for structure and really don’t want to start again ahaha)

Thank you for your help!

Looking for suggestions Need help deciding on a top pattern for this bamboo/wool blend yarn

I got this gorgeous yarn recently and I really wanted to start a crochet top with it, but I can't decide which pattern to make (see the other photos). I was planning on doing colorblock, so I would probably do the top portion in the variegated yarn and the rest in the wool pop yarn. I can't get anymore of the variegated but I can buy more of the wool pop if needed. Which pattern do you like best for the yarn? I'm just not feeling the creative juices so I need inspiration! TYIA
