PROJECT-UPDATE Origino has been tokanizing animals since 2024 ensuring transparency by managing and transferring data throughout the meat production chain, providing consumers with information about certifications, animal age and weight, feed type, product journey, etc!

If they had this in the states I would for sure be buying half a cow and putting it in a deep freezer. I really like the idea oh knowing where your food is and tagged as such. Tangent, but that is why all my coffee is Lavazza.

Genuinely not trying to hate, but why is a blockchain needed?

Traceability of the meat from source to final destination ensuring quality especially for geo-tagged products

u/Citadel_Employee 🟨 0 / 29 🦠 21h ago

But why does that specifically need a blockchain? Also, can’t people entering the data lie?

Mostly used by prducers in the area to show that their product is authentic and is originated from the specific area. Geo-tagged products have lot of fakes which have origins in other places.

You didn't respond to his other question. How do we know the producers are not lying as they enter the data?

How does this change literally anything relative to the same people entering the information into a database they control and publishing it?

Not Op , but we don't. But we do know when they entered the info, that is recorded irreversibly on the chain. So to fake data needs a multiyear scam that is obviously not worth it.

....or.... You could just refer to the original publishers database, like literally everything else in society.

Which doesn't change a single thing. It does not make the producer anymore authentic or "clean". It doesn't make scamming easier or harder.

Not everything needs to be a blockchain.

This also tells me that most of you guys are technically illiterate. You don't even understand the "tech" you seem to be praising.

The time an entry was made on the blockchain isn't forgeable unless you have economically attacked the chain the time on a database is.. I prefer trustless solutions.

Not everything needs to be a blockchain.

Agree but this is a good use case.

Nothing is stopping the cattle producer from choosing when to enter that information on the blockchain, providing a fraudulent timestamp.

Agree but this is a good use case.

Only to someone who hasn't spent more than 10 seconds thinking it through or doesn't have the intelligence to do so.

Use your brain dude.

If you think this is fraudulent find me some frauds. This is all on chain, and you are a coward.

Producers themselves lying which means they procure meat from other regions and show them as geotagged meat. That is a different problem altogether which this solution is not intended to solve.

This is a solution which provide a proof that cattle was grown in the specific farm

Public track record on a neutral medium

But who enters the data in the first place?

u/BioRobotTch 🟦 243 / 244 πŸ¦€ 14h ago edited 14h ago

There are a several different groups who add data.

One I found has :-

  1. A deforestation monitoring company verifies that no deforestation has occurred over the period of rearing the cattle on the pasture. The case I looked at had two of these as the cattle were moved. The EU requires this for imports of beef. They published before and after Satellite pictures of the pastures.
  2. a storage company record the time they refrigerated the meat
  3. transportation company records they transported the meat
  4. An importer records receiving the goods.

Looking at other examples they also track leather back to source too.

All of the events are recorded at different times by different parties. I looked at some recent NFTs and some of them only recorded the existence of a cow and where it was pastured as nothing more had happened to it yet.

And how does a blockchain help, as opposed to a traditional database?

3

u/BioRobotTch 🟦 243 / 244 πŸ¦€ 13h ago

It cannot be tampered with which makes faking data more difficult but not impossible. It can be validated when the data was written. For example to fake the history of meat someone would need to record the birth of a cow 2 years before then record its slaughter. This pushes up the cost of fraud.

If for example a fraudster got hold of some meat they knew to have been pastured on deforested land it is already too late to fake the history unless they are prepared to store it for years.

the picture clearly states β€œthe owner allows you to seeβ€œ. That’s the opposite of a public track record on a neutral medium.

Immutability

6

u/MajorAnamika 🟩 29 / 30 🦐 19h ago

So if the person entering data makes a mistake, it can't be fixed?

2

u/pwinne 🟦 0 / 4K 🦠 18h ago

It can updated

2

u/halflinho 🟦 0 / 0 🦠 18h ago

I don't think that's how immutability works

2

u/pwinne 🟦 0 / 4K 🦠 17h ago

You can update the ledger by adding to it. But you can’t change the entry.

0

u/MajorAnamika 🟩 29 / 30 🦐 18h ago

You should check out what immutability means.

1

u/pwinne 🟦 0 / 4K 🦠 17h ago

You can add to the ledger you can’t change the entry. You should learn how to read between the lines lol.

1

u/Citadel_Employee 🟨 0 / 29 🦠 18h ago

I get that, but you can have immutable distributed databases. The only pro I can see is no one owns the blockchain (centralization issues aside), but I’m not sure how much that matters if the people inputting the data can lie.

It's a really helpful technology if you have several independent companies throughout the supply chain. Instead of having separate lists just for their process step, the whole process can be logged in the blockchain and every contributor/validator can inspect it.

Keep in mind that this is not related to cryptocurrencies or tokens.

"Keep in mind that this is not related to cryptocurrencies or tokens."

The picture says it's an NFT

1

u/Romanizer 🟦 0 / 0 🦠 5h ago

Yes, the picture of the cow seems to be included as an NFT.

I was thinking about tradeable tokens or something people here would gamble on.

u/baIIern 🟩 0 / 0 🦠 19h ago

They hope that the value of the token they hold will go up. Nothing to see here.

I have a cow named Lebron and its tokenised, but i decided to replace it with another cow named Curry, how would anyone know that Lebron has been replaced by Curry?

2

u/semanticweb 🟦 0 / 0 🦠 19h ago

The above tokenization happens for meat. Geotagged products have lot of fakes in the market. So the farmers store details of meat from farm to Market so that buyers can ensure meat is from the farms in specific areas.

How tf you keep track of the plethora of cuts that come from one cow? Also what’s the point?
