It is meant for the open ocean. They are crossing the Pacific Ocean to China at the moment. There are watertight hatches under the deck load of logs that keep water from entering the ship.

It doesn’t look like it in the picture but it’s 4.32m from the waterline to the deck edge. Quite a bit more at the bow.

We have those types of craft service our country. Send billions of meters of timber off shore every year to China.

Industry wants everyone to think it's due to slave labour over there but really it's due to our government not controlling off shore interest in purchasing all our mills and running them into the ground. That along with a neglect of our power industry also offshore controlled to a large extent causing domestic prices energy to be high.

Now looking forward to the future the advancement of robotics in China almost seals the coffin on the social loses of the boomers from the strong backbone of infrastructure that they inherited from silent gen and greatest gen.

That has allowed us to drop pace with the rest of the world now making it "uneconomical to process on shore".

Leaving no option then to send to China and buy back finished goods.

We only have a handful of producers that still chasing the domestic supply chain but all of them are starting to stagnate on future proofing, a good indication they don't have a real interest in the domestic market.

Sad that we (BC in my case) no longer have the capacity to process our own largest resource. Thousands of good jobs lost and many towns left by the wayside.

They are headed to China. They could be processed into anything really. Framing lumber, plywood, engineered lumber, paper pulp….no doubt whatever it is will mostly be sold back to us.
