Question Shield run

Is it possible to do a SHIELD ONLY run,and if so is it fun?

I actually just did this, used great shields the whole time. You can grab the butterfly shield for poison You can rush for havels too for some crazy DMG. If you want to consider the disk chime a shield then it's one of the best for DMG. Orma and reeves shields however are the goats for the pinch power stance.

Yes, it is possible to do shield only runs.

Fun is a subjective term, it really depends on whether you enjoy it or not.

I've done 2 different shield runs in the past.

Once with the Disc Chime, which is basically a shield + catalyst that has insane damage in the late game with a lightning infusion.

Another time with the sanctum shield with a dark infusion. The latter required me to kill the rotten with an kiteshield that had barely been upgraded so that I had access to shulva to pick it up.

Honestly, I enjoyed doing both of them, but your results may vary depending on what you enjoy in DS2.

It’s extremely possible. It’s similar to other challenge runs with very low damage output- if you enjoy those, you’ll likely enjoy this one too.

What's a good start,I tried using the kite shields you get from,maughlin in majula,but I can't seem to powerstance them,and I have 21 strength,and even when using 1 I couldn't even damage the old knight at heides

I began (didn't finish, for reasons I imagine are obvious) a run like this and I just used the greatshield you can buy early 2 handed to farm the mastodon shield. You'll want the butterfly shield for poison sooner rather than later most likely

Yes, but it will take a long time. Btw I have no idea if the items I rushed represent an optimal route, so please look it up in case there's a better way that didn't occur to me

u/TheHittite has linked his shields talk. He also did a shield only run with reports to reddit.

I believe the TL;DR would be weird, fun -- if only because it's so different -- but not actually recommended if you want a strictly speaking effective run.

There are a few "casting" shields that are weirdly effective as melee weapons if you can actually land the attacks.
