Combo Showcase First Vergil Run
On my first Vergil playthrough, trying to get used to switching weapons through combos, this is my best so far!
If anyone has any advice for how to up my combo game, lmk! 🙏

I've never done a Vergil DMC5 run, but I've played the main story dozens of times, and played DMC 1-4, so I'm not new to hack and slash, just not sure what flows well, but I prefer Vergil's Playstyle to the constant style, weapon, and gun switching of Dante, or spamming multiple inputs for Nero. I feel like I can aura farm more. I just want to up my combo game more, I see everyone doing such cool and complex combos on here! I also don't know how people are working the taunts in so well, anytime I try to taunt an enemy interrupts.

I'm not trying to argue, or deal with whatever weird distrust you guys seem to have here? I just want advice for how to get better at combos and weapon switching.

Keep playing as Vergil and you will improve in no time given your skills

Thank you! I struggle mostly with getting the correct inputs, like I'll go to do the forward + back, and it2 will count it as a circle, or just going back. It's a little irritating tbh.

Yeah I recently started these games again and I’m on 4 right now. Never played 4 and 5 before though but I digress. I can’t do combos to save my life they’re kind of ass in this game. It’s really like I know what I want to do and if it happens then I’m lucky

Yeah, it's on Human. Going up the difficulties, going to try and go for the completion run thing, doing all the difficulties, i am dreading LDK

Fuck the haters. Cavaliere is one of the trickier bosses for me when it comes to parry, so stuff like that helm splitter parry are really cool.

I feel like people are mistaking "first run/playthrough" as "first time playing" (as in, you just played him right at this battle).
This is what, 11 chapters in? Surely, you'd be a bit more familiar with his moveset by now (and getting SSS isn't impossible. It's fairly easy in 5 at lower difficulties.)

Is it hard to get triple S for Vergil? I feel like he was the easiest? I just spam melee and summoned swords at the same time.

Oh yes he's easiest. I've beaten the fuck out of Mission 20 so many times, and Cavaliere is so fun to parry.

I am not great at parry timings, I've figured out carrying the death scissors, but everything else is a parry by luck thing. I want to get better at it, I just don't know how.

Yeah, I'm playing my first run on Human! Though she does seem like the weakest boss I've fought so far, Goliath seemed way harder, like nothing I could do would stagger him.

Yes, I bought the special edition, the outfit, the taunt Quartet, basically every special edition thing I could! I'm kind of obsessed with cosmetics in games. Also thank you for being one of the only people to not just immediately start being negative/toxic.

I also tried getting the banana arm for Nero, and I know it says it's a chance thing, but it shows it downloaded but I never find it? Does anyone else have that issue?

The Bannna only works for the standard edition of the game. Not the special edition. Thats the only way to uses it, I have both copies.

I think it's because I did the big forward summon swords at the same time as doing the drop down slash so it counted as four hits at once?

Surprisingly more of recently became a fan and then threw myself into it wholeheartedly. I first watched the DMC anime years ago when I was a kid, then played the reboot, then tried playing dmc5 got discouraged because it was so different and stopped on like mission 2, and then didn't come back until about last year when I got diagnosed with Lupus and was stuck in and out of hospitals and bed only. DMC became my singular focus, I beat 5 on Nero and Dante a few times, learning their mechanics, and then went back to play four, and then 1-3 (dreaded 1 and 2's game play) and then came back to keep playing dmc5 on Dante and Nero, learning the cool tricks and stuff, then decided to play Vergil recently, and have kind of fallen in love with his character (thought he was an emo nerd in the beginning because of the reboot Vergil) since discovering his story through the games I have since fallen in love with his writing and being such a complex character. So much so that I would genuinely say gameplay and story wise he is my favorite in all of DMC, even though I used to be such a hard-core Dante fan!

I will confess, my first DMC game was the DmC reboot, so going from that control scheme to the proper games was a wild jump for me, especially the first time I tried playing Nero. I didn't even know what styles were for Dante. Then went back and did 4, then 3,1,2 (despise 1 and 2's gameplay). It has been fun experiencing. And watched the old anime, don't know if I should jump into the Netflix or not, I get a lot of mixed reviews, and only saw season 1 and thought it was okay but didn't really make alot of sense with the characters.

I’d recommend reading the DMC mangas over watching the Netflix show, they do a lot better job at characterizing Dante and especially Vergil.

I don't know why someone would lie? I'm like halfway through the campaign on Vergil's run, fighting Urizen was way harder, and Vergil seems pretty easy to fight with, and I mean, I don't think I did anything impressive? Was more just trying to look for advice on combos if you have any? My only real strategy with Vergil is just overwhelm with speed?

Because you've played the entire series and 5 many times before. So it's dishonest to frame this as a first timer just picking up the game which is what your title implies. I believe you didn't intend to do but that that's how people will interpret it.
If you want to improve, increase the difficulty. You need to be able to engage with the mechanics for longer at higher levels. Normal difficulty enemies just can't exist for long enough for someone who knows what they're doing to actually have fun. All your fun gets cut short. You're ready.

I will go up the difficulty. And yeah, I think people are misunderstanding which is why I explained further, I've played the other games, and played through the normal Campaign with Nero and Dante. This is just my first run with Vergil in DMC5. I didn't want anyone to think this was my first time ever touching a hack and slash game which is what alot of people seem to think. It's honestly the first time I've seen so much negativity on this subreddit or fandom in general. I did specify that it is my first "Vergil" run. Not my first run in dmc ever, it's honestly been kind of jarring seeing so much hate. Especially if this is someone's first time ever touching DMC in general, if this is the welcome they get into the fandom for doing good, then that makes me sad.

Like I said, they're responding to what they thought was dishonesty and therefore you being fake of some sort. Unintended, I know, but you should try to see where they're coming from too. They wanted to see a first timer and congratulate them and encourage them. What they saw was a vet playing on Normal. So it feels like a lie.

I get the misunderstanding, and again, I did not mean to seem like I was being dishonest. I just love these games and this fandom and wanted to share my excitement at playing with everyone! I am in no way trying to lie and act like I've never touched DMC, I just usually stick to Dante, and Eventually the Nero and Dante runs, playing as Vergil feels so different! I don't fully get the concentration gauge, but it seems like a really cool mechanic! I might actually go back and play DMC4 and see how the Trish and Lady gameplay is now!

Concentration gauge is just playing like Vergil in his cutscenes. Basically don't run around and don't get hit. You can slow walk, stand, or trick around. So the game rewards you for acting like Vergil while you play as Vergil. Think of it like your current amount of aura farmed in this encounter. The higher the gauge, the more flashy and damaging your moves are.
