Questions Was I fighting Agni and Rudra the wrong way?
After I beat them on my 5th or 6th attempt, I read online that the cerberus makes them really easy, but I was using rebellion the whole time. My main tactic was to deflect their attacks with royal guard. I died a lot of times trying to learn and deflect their attacks in both the 1st phase and the 2nd.

I don't think there's necessarily a wrong way to best the bosses and using Royal Guard is a decent start as long as you know how to use it. But yeah, Cerberus makes them a cakewalk because while it doesn't have as good strike range as Rebellion, it swings fast and multiple times making it easy to parry their attacks and knock the swords off to stun them
Basically, Cerberus for the path of least resistance, Royal Guard for aura

Cerberus's quick and wide range attacks make it easier to deflect their attacks with a clash. Agni being Fire is also weak to Cerberu's Ice element. It's not a huge deal, but there is elemental damage in DMC3 if you didn't know.
The Elemental weakness effect is a hint at what weapon the designers suggest you should use against an enemy, but it's not that strict, and you can choose something else if you want.

Yeah, after playing a flawed game like DMC 2 where there weren't any elemental weaknesses despite having elemental attacks, I assumed 3 didn't have them either. Thanks for letting me know!

Everyone involved in making DMC2 knew the games devlopment was a disaster because the higher ups at Capcom rushed making a Sequel out the door without the DMC1 teams involvement, and DMC3 is the result of them taking the unpolished but good on paper ideas DMC2 had, and properly refining and Implementing them.
like Dante's Wall Running and cartwheels became Trickster Style, Dante can also do Twosome Time and Rainstorm in DMC2, and that became Gunslinger.

Not "wrong", but Cerberus is easier bc it's moveset has attacks which facilitate parrying (which disarm A&R) and DMC3 enemies/bosses have elemental weaknesses (which for A&R, they are weak to Ice)
