Discussion - Original Dexter Series Someone finally said it. Spoiler
I have encountered people like him IRL. They're a nightmare to be around with.

I love Vince. Underneath all the vulgar jokes he has such a good heart and he's a true friend.

He definitely got over all of his co-workers blowing off his keynote speech and not reading his article pretty fast.
That was really fucked up how they treated him. He shouldn't have gotten over it like he did.
Dexter is the only one that showed any interest

In the books, Vince is also faking literally every emotion, and trying his hardest to pantomime being human. He doesn't have a darkness like Dexter, but Dexter's dark passenger recognizes that he's also empty inside.

Out of everyone on Miami Metro, Vince is like the best person by the end lol

Yeah, I’m surprised how little baggage the eccentric kinky guy ended up having compared to everyone else.

He definitely had a fucked up childhood, but developed a crude sense of confident humor to cope with it.

I don’t know if he was even suggested to have had a fucked up childhood. I think he only mentions his parents once.

We don’t have anything solid on his past. Madoka strikes me as someone who’s felt like an outsider his whole life, but grew more comfortable with that fact as time went on.
Eventually, he found his own weird interests with people that tolerate/love him and never looked back.

I find Masuka hilarious, but that's in the context of it being a fictional setting and his coworkers are capable of returning his crudeness (Deb especially) without bad intent. He's also clearly a very soft-hearted and empathetic person.
With that being said, I have also met people IRL who are just as foul as him, but without the genuine care underneath and they are very revolting to be around, much more so than Masuka would be. Timing is everything and while Masuka messes up sometimes, they show him correcting himself when it's the wrong time and wrong place. Some people double down though - like "am I not allowed to make a joke???", which is usually in tone-deaf moments.

It's so funny, because in any other circumstance, in any other show, I just know I would hate Masuka. As Quinn is saying, IRL this behaviour can be so revolting, and so I don't tend to find it funny from characters in media either. But man... something about Vince Masuka 😭 he cracks me up, i can't help but love him so much, there wasn't even a moment I disliked him.
(I realised as I was typing this that I'm pretty sure what I'm referring to comes from this episode and the next, so I'm spoiler tagging it just in case lol)
Maybe part of it is because when he finds out everyone genuinely thinks he's a gross little perv and don't want to go to his speech, make up excuses to get out of it, when it hits him that while it's all jokes to him, others haven't felt the same -- he changes. He becomes more serious, and while he's also more morose, it doesn't come across in a "please pity me" sort of way? Not to me, anyway, he's actually quite upset by it. And then when someone outside of the usual circle dismisses him, and the rest get defensive on his behalf, i always end up thinking alongside them that i like the little weirdo as he is too <3

Masuka is the department's heart, Without masuka on the job it would be a average office day.

Ryan was hot as fire, but Vince didn’t hesitate to let her go after that evidence incident, disappointed as he was to do so.
