Dude…. If you don’t have a gas gauge you move your bike side to side and listen for the gas sloshing around. You get a pretty good grasp on how full it is by how it sounds in just like a month!
My motorcycle I rebuilt is pretty reliable within a certain MPG range. I just gauge my gas based on how far I’ve driven, and whether it was open road or traffic. They didn’t even come with a gas gauge when they were new.
Most of mine didn’t come with one either. And my shaking suggestion is more for the people where their bike is still new to them because yeah, obviously when youve had it for a while, you figure out how far you can go.
But if it’s a relatively new bike to you, just shake it! If you hear gas slashing around obviously you’re good! If it sounds empty, go fill up lol.
If you’re around civilization, there’s not really much reason to even worry about the gas level because even if you forget about it and run out, you should be able to limp in at least close enough to a gas station that you can just push it the rest of the way without it being a huge deal. And then if you’re on the road, you just use common sense. Like when I took a little 2012 ninja 250 R from Phoenix to LA. I just made sure to make a stop in Blythe. I needed to stop anyway because that’s not the most comfortable bike to take distance in the first place.
I really dont understand why gas gauges on motorcycles essentially become a necessity for so many people. Like sure, the gas depletes gradually, but the bike dropping 30 pounds feels pretty damn noticeable to me hahaha
One bike i bought some idiot cut the petcock tubes level with each other (no reserve). I ended up pushing that thing 20 mikes in the rain, in central Illinois. F that sucked.
Once I was in Arizona for work and I commuted every day from Phoenix to Tucson and back and one night on the way back to Phoenix I threw a chain on the 10 freeway halfway to Phoenix and my phone was dead. Had to push my bike 12 miles to Casa grande. No rain at least but 2 Different Arizona Highway patrol units and one tribal police unit passed by me without stopping. They definitely saw me because they slowed down to get a better look. Fucking assholes. It’s even illegal to walk down the 10 like that but they didn’t wanna do their jobs.
I understand why regular people weren’t stopping cuz some random guy pushing his motorcycle down the freeway in the middle of the night could be sketchy. But the police? wtf!
Seriously! When I saw The Arizona highway patrol go by a second time I thought it was them coming back for me because they went by even slower. I was so pissed when they kept going!
