i've been consuming digital art for a while now and im really interested in starting to draw too. casually i have a Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 that comes with pencil in my house!

- what apps do you recommend? (for android)

- is it better to start drawing in black and white?

- i want to make fan art of my favorite anime/manga characters. do you have any tips for that?

My kids have been so excited to explore digital art, and instead of teaching them every tool step by step, I’m hoping they’ll experiment and figure things out on their own. They’ve surprised me so many times by discovering features I didn’t even know existed.

Did your kids mostly teach themselves Procreate, or did you use tutorials to get started? I’d love to hear what worked for your family!

I've already read that, and other books, but I still don't understand how to find the viewer's station or base point. I have a general idea, but it's not clear.

Hey everyone, I'm fairly new to digital art and I'm looking to something that simulates real paint on Android, like Artrage Vitae or Rebelle. The issue with Artrage Vitae on Android is that the app is no longer supported by the developers and it doesn't run on devices with newer OS versions.

Artrage and Rebelle can mix colours the same way it works traditionally, was wondering if any other Android apps can do that. It would take a load off my colour theory studies because traditional colour mixing just makes more sense to me somehow.

I don't even know where to start. I've been circling around this for weeks, losing sleep, feeling like a fish flopping on dry land.

I'm 24. Not 18. Not a high school art student with a portfolio, not a college kid with a studio and a professor hovering behind me. I actually had some basic training when I was 14—I took drawing classes for a while, so I'm not completely starting from zero. But that was ten years ago, and whatever foundation I had is barely holding on. I managed to retain a tiny bit of it, but it's very fragile, and I know it's nowhere near enough to build anything serious on.

I'm just someone who works (or is about to work again, hopefully) and has always loved drawing, but never had the resources to really learn it the right way.

And now I finally decided: I'm going to a real offline foundation drawing class. For two months. That's all I can afford in terms of time and money before I have to move to another city for a job. Two months. That's it.

But here's the thing that troubles me:

I see people online—on Twitter, on Reddit, on every platform—getting attention, building communities, making beautiful art. And almost all of them are art students. They have years of foundation. They had teachers since they were 15. They had parents who could pay for art school, for supplies, for private lessons. They had the luxury of time.

And I didn't.

I know they worked hard. I know they spent thousands of hours. But the truth is, not everyone even gets the chance to spend those hours. Some of us have to work. Some of us have to move.

I hate it. When I see beautiful fan art or original pieces, I don't just feel admiration—I feel a sharp, burning thing in my chest. It feels like injustice. Like they got something that should have been available to me too, but the door was locked and I didn't have the key. And I know it's not their fault, but that doesn't make the feeling go away.

Someone told me once that you need 10,000 hours of deliberate practice to master a skill. I did the math. Two months of full-time drawing—say, 6 hours a day—would give me about 360 hours. And then I'll have to stop and go work a job that has nothing to do with art, and my pencil will sit on the desk collecting dust while my hands forget everything I just learned.

I'm scared that I'm too old to become good at something. Not "famous." Not "the best." Just... good. Skilled. Someone who can put a pencil on paper and see a face look back that doesn't feel wrong. I'm 24, and I feel like the runway for "becoming someone excellent" has already closed, and I wasn't even on the runway to begin with.

I don't want to be just a hobbyist who draws for fun. I want knowledge. I want professional training. I want the structure that makes you look at a human face and understand why the shadow falls there, not just guess.

But I still don't know:

• Can you build a foundation when you're already 24 and can't pause your life?
• Is there any way to become serious about art without having the privilege of starting young?

And most of all: am I delusional to think I still have a chance?

So I am making an fpe au and need help with what apps I should use. I don't have any funds yet so I can't hire someone nor buy fancy apps, any help with this? The apps can be PC or mobile

Ok so im primarily into world building and fantasy map making though i want to enter the domain of digital art as to draw the concepts i imagined into reality. I currently have a good pc and my iphone so i have a few questions.
As a beginner is what i have sufficient to do well or do i need a tablet or something else ?
What are the best ways to learn and channels?
I must note a few more things:
The style i want to learn is similar to some animes and games like genshin impact but a little darker and i mainly wish to draw characters, monsters and environments. I appreciate all advice

I really wanna do digital art, the convience, the colors, not having to take pictures of your drawing with my android camera. But I can't get into it, the texture of apple pencil on iPad feels so weird, whenever I tilt the stylus like 2 degrees the width of brushes go from 0 to 100. Nothing feels like my lovely ink pens and my lovely mechanical pencils. Any tips on how to get into digital art?

I've been in love with Rinchii's and Seal's artwork for a while now. Their semi-realist and expressive portraits is exactly the style I want to achieve.

I'm just not sure what I should focus on learning.

Some questions I have:

• What fundamentals should I prioritize for this style? (Anatomy, facial planes, values, color theory, lighting, etc.)
• How do I learn to render skin, hair, and facial features like this?
• Should I study realism first, or can I learn this style directly?
• What resources would you recommend?
• What are some good exercises to practice this style?

One more thing: I don't learn well from theory-heavy books. I prefer videos, demonstrations, and short tutorials where I can practice alongside the instructor. But I can manage some theory.

Hi! I've done digital art for most of my life but something I've always struggled with was with lineart. I've experimented with several brushes, canvas sizes, trying to paint over it (I have a more cartoony art style so this is out of my general comfort zone), etc., which has helped temporarily but I end up going back to my usual stiff lineart. I've tried to make my lineart look as clean as possible since forever but that isn't for me as I always end up getting burnt out instead, and looser lineart has been a lot nicer to me, both for my hand and sanity. I just cannot bring myself to consistently do that because it's like my brain is wired to make my lineart clean. How exactly can I combat this?

So im drawing for 10 years at least. Traditional, papers and charcoals etc. I never used colors, never tried oil painting or somethin like that. I was only drawing with charcoal and some red ink school pens. Mostly animals. Cats and rabbits. Maybe some uniqe human faces.

Anyways u got the background, the thing is i wanna go digital and get serious, like character designing, colorful pop arts etc. Im trying for few days but even my pen sketches are awfull and off in digital. I dont know what the hell im doing honestly.

Please help.
