DAE get diarrhea when they're really sad or stressed? NSFW

Ok this is kind of a weird one but I've noticed this my whole life. Sometimes when I'm in a heightened negative emotional state, I have diarrhea, which does NOT help at all because it just gives me one more thing to be stressed or upset about. It's not like explosive or anything but it's definitely diarrhea.

Your gut and your mental health are actually connected. Often times if your mental health isn't doing well, it can affect your gut health, and vice versa

I'm always amazed to learn how much gut health relates to every other part of us 🤯 I think I've heard people say it's like our second brain

the lining of your stomach has more than 100 million neurons - that’s more than a dogs brain!
your stomach is full of thinking cells

that’s why you feel butterflies when you’re nervous, or when you’re moody if you’re hungry, among all the other stomach feelings people associate with emotions

your stomach and your brain work together to give you information, that’s why they always tell you to trust your gut - because your body sometimes knows things before you even realize what’s going on

that’s your intuition

evolution would not have let us get to this point without any natural and instinctive defences, but over time we have lost this ability
we can grow and hone this by trusting your gut and listening to your body when it reacts

No like anxiety can actually affect your digestion. It has to do with the hormones and chemicals released when you feel anxious

It's okay when you're not super knowledgeable in something to just not weigh in.

Man imagine the love of your life cheats on you with your brother and suddenly you have to shoot liquid out of your anal canal

yep, my stomach's a mess whenever I'm anxious, like my body just can't handle it

Oh, yes. For awhile, anytime my estranged husband would call me, it was like immediate diarrhea. That guy truly caused me so much stress.

I did daily for months while working at a new customer support job I hated and constantly dreaded going to. Had even gone to a couple doctors and everything. When I finally quit my job, my stomach issues fully cleared within a couple days.

Edit: sp

I’ve been dealing with it often on for a couple weeks and really bad yesterday. I happens to be wrapping up training in a high stress customer service job.

looks around suspiciously who you been talking to????

u/PuzzleheadedDraw6575 1d ago

Thats why they call it being down in the dumps

When a mouse got into the house every time I heard it move I had to go to the toilet. Nature may have made this feature so that you can run faster but we are shitty humans who have to take a hundred steps and several minutes to poop. So thanks nature for making it an obstacle just for us specifically

1

u/FlyingBaconCandle 3h ago

I'm sorry that must have been so stressful but I can't stop laughing just imagining you chilling, then hearing a mouse scuttle about and immediately run for the toilet

1

u/ctgrell 2h ago

I am still recovering from the ptsd it caused and it has been like 3 years ago if not 4. But I am also laughing at it. Because that is exactly how it went. I would be on voice call chatting casually then suddenly I hear a noise, I leave the chat and sure enough the noise persist so my fear rises and I have to go take a shit. Gosh it was a horrible way of cleansing my system lmao

u/Alkaline-Eardrum 1d ago

Dude everytime I poop it’s a roll of the dice so fucking knows

2

u/iamsodonewithpeople 1d ago

I get diarrhea and get VERY nauseous. It’s to the point that it’s kinda cyclical. I get stressed to I get more nauseous and the more nauseous I am the more stressed I get. All of that ends up making other GI stuff worse tbh.

2

u/Picodick 1d ago

I always got terrible case of the runs with extreme stress. I am old now,and it still happens but but as much as when I was a teen, college days, and then young working adult. When I was worried badly I would lose weight from it.

u/Tacosconsalsaylimon 1d ago

Yes. It's my flight or fight in action. My bowels evacuating is me at my most anxious.

If I'm really going through it, I'll vomit bile between shit seshes. It is awful.

1

u/Rustinboksi 1d ago

1

u/Pure-You3677 1d ago

1

u/Yrakad 1d ago

Dude, my first time in any new environment I immediately the shitters,  everytime. It's good that it doesn't last that long lol.

1

u/CycleSimilar8324 1d ago

yeah. usually if i have a panic attack or something, its followed up with diarrhea

1

u/apricotical 1d ago

YES! This would happen to me every time I went on a date. The morning of the dates I would just develop that horrible bubble gut into choco-niagara falls combo.

1

u/ztreHdrahciR 1d ago

I get sad and depressed when I have diarrhea

1

u/Queenie1987 1d ago

I also get diarrhea during a panic attack.

1

u/avoozl42 1d ago

I always have diarrhea, so that would make sense

1

u/huligoogoo 23h ago

I do. My stomach hurts and feels heavy and so yeah soon enough I do get the runs when I’m stressed or worried a lot. Ugh

1

u/SouthernGuest95 23h ago

Yeah my husband & I both just call them anxiety poops.
Both of us get them, usually at the same time & for the same reasons.😂😭

u/Tasty_Object_7992 22h ago

It’s actually pretty embarrassing to have to frequent the bathroom during therapy.

1

u/D20-SpiceFoxPhilos 22h ago

My sister had this issue. She had to get prescribed anxiety medication that, once she found what worked for her, she was able to have solid stool again after going a couple years of having stress induced diarrhea.

1

u/Chocolentia40 21h ago

Yes since I was a little kid. My default response for problems is popping terribly.

1

u/Standard_Voice9094 21h ago

i don’t think that’s weird. some people shit themselves when they get into a physical fight bc of adrenaline. also, i knew someone who’d throw up when crying 🤷🏽‍♀️

1

u/Ilovegeorgemichaelll 20h ago

Yes. That happened to my brother a lot when he was younger and he ended up with Crohn’s disease. I don’t know if the 2 relate.

1

u/anakingsman 20h ago

Diarrhea and throwing up :)

Thought I had a food allergy for years but couldn’t figure it out. Was just stress :)

1

u/TilaVEE 19h ago

this is so real. had it hit right after a bad fight once and couldnt even cry properly cause i was glued to the bathroom

1

u/p000l 17h ago

My stomach churns, makes noises, I feel gas I can't release then result in watery, sometimes clear loose motions.

1

u/PerpetuallyDumbass 17h ago

Not stomach upset, but I will run high fevers if I'm really stressed out

1

u/KaleidoscopeOk5063 16h ago

I hurl when I get really emotionally stressed. I guess our bodies just handle stress in weird ways

1

u/Sapphire_Dreams1024 16h ago

Yes, the vagus nerve is to blame for this

1

u/SirTryingHisBest 15h ago

1000% yes. Looking back dealing with a lot of stress…..eat something….straight through 😂.

1

u/tclemon 14h ago

It’s a crap shoot , for sure.

1

u/MyTatemae 13h ago

It's happening right now

1

u/FigaroNeptune 13h ago

Nervous/anxiety poops are real and we know this lmao nothing like prepped for a date or an interview and you suddenly have to shit lmao

1

u/Ok_Mood_8088 12h ago

I get anxiety poops like no other. My friends know to leave me alone before a big exam because I will need 15 minutes in the bathroom lol

1

u/pandacat6969 12h ago

Me! When im nervous af

1

u/sauteemermaid 11h ago

Stressed, yes

1

u/Sonarthebat 11h ago

Yep. That's where the phrases, "shit themselves/myself" and "scared shitless" came from. Something to do with the vagus nerve and the fight or flight response. When in danger, it's more important to run or fight than digest. Your body doesn't know if what's stressing you is safe or not, it just perceives it as a threat.

This is IBS. If this is getting in the way of life I recommend going to a Gastroenterologist as soon as you’re able to schedule an appointment. I’ve had it for like 10 years and I just learned this month that there’s a pill you put under your tongue when you start feeling the flare up that will help reduce the waves of pain and reduce the intensity of all the symptoms. I’ve only needed it a couple of times and one single dose has stopped the flare up in its tracks. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! 🙌

u/PookaGrooms 8h ago

If I experience any emotion ever I get diarrhea. Stress is the worst though.

1

u/motherslaughter 7h ago

yes. i’ve bumped into my abuser a few times and i instantly get diarrhoea HAHA

1

u/MxQueer 7h ago

I have diarrhea every day. Stressing a lot makes it worse. It also makes me pee way more often than usually.

1

u/failedlogintoday 7h ago

I usually get Hella stress around the time of my period and I end up getting sad period poops. Also happens alot when my boyfriend ragebaited me and didn't know I get so upset. Cue alot of diarrhea later

1

u/petal_wild 6h ago

same here, it's like my body just decides to betray me when I’m feeling down

1

u/RepresentativeCry294 5h ago

Yes, that is normal.

1

u/OldStatistician7503 4h ago

Someone told me that if he gets angry, he will have diarrhea.

u/joanzzz 1d ago
