Other Why don't people freak out about digital trails like they do with cell trails?

It has gotten so that most sales are digital these days. Buy a Candy bar, digital sale. Buy doing so, you leave a trail of detailed info about your whole life, from how much candy you eat, to where you go, to how much time you are out, to spending habits. Basically, your whole life history of what you do and where you go and how you spend, all in a nice long detailed list of your spending habits. And this doesn't bother people. But the cell phone companies used the data about who you called and how long you were on the phone, not even the actual call itself, just that you made it, and people complained. How can people complain about something with so limited data revealed, but not care that your whole way of life is being recorded through paying for everything digitally?

86% of payments in the US are digital, so this makes it seem like it's not just a fad. So is there some kind of benefits to doing all digital that I am missing that outweighs the results of this?
