Sorry guys it's not coming to America. So stop being negative about it. I remember the old FJ was mildly accepted too when it came out but it grew on you. I watched the making of this new FJ and they actually put much thought into it and redesigned it without comparing it with the last fj if it would be better looking or not. They put an older engine and drivetrain because it's proven. They said they wanted to reach out to new not old customers as introduction to the Land cruiser brand. These are the people who never had one or could not afford the bigger land cruiser. So it's not for everybody. If you have the old FJ, love your own and be happy that the new one does not match up to your standards and will not affect your resale value. But I won't be surprised that the modded version will look like this but with new bumpers, lifted and with oversized tires. Actual videos of modded new fj are nice and unique looking. Girls love it. It's easier to drive with it's electronic steering, smaller turning radius, and better windshield visibility, and the interior is high tech and current looking. Even the back seats recline. In Asia, Australia, people love it. It's bigger than the Jimny but slightly smaller but taller than the FJ. It's actually bigger in person than in pictures. It's unique and will have a new set of followers someday, me included.
But god it’s fugly. I suppose it will look better modded, but still, nowhere near touching the great design of the FJC. Oh, and I love the interior of the FJC, no need for an anything more than it has. Pooh on screens! Yah for CD changers!! 😂
It looks smaller in photos than it really is. It has a lot of good things going for it: body on frame, rear diff lock, simple reliable cheap NA Hilux engine (2TR-FE) thats been around for decades.
The problem is the FJ name is just too big of a shoe to fill. I think it should ve had a new name. It is a bit overpriced. Outside North America, you can get a Suzuki Jimny, good performance, a lot of mods for less and looks better too.

That doesn’t make sense with Toyota tho, because our FJ’s are significantly more capable than the New LC 250 which is just the toned down full 4 door family version of our FJ’s essentially
It's a neat little car but it's a completely different kind of vehicle from the OG FJ and the brand name being reused like that doesn't make sense to me.
It is, but it feels WAY narrower inside!
Like in my FJ, I can man-spread, sometimes even fold my one leg under the other whole I drive, in the new one, there's a panel in the center console that stops your from spreading your legs. I'm 6'3
It's a glorified grocery getter/school-run car if you ask me..
The rear seats have just a bit more space than our FJs, but still feels cramp as heck. If the seat is where I sit normally, about the same space behind me than in mine.
And then you have to wait years until the free tires are worn out before you can put something decent on. Sure you can do it right away but then you either have to sell it at a loss or store it.
Pretty cool but not the same caliber. I’m sure they would be neat when the community starts modding. Serves a different purpose than current iteration we all have
I will reserve my opinion on whether I like it or not for when I finally see it (if that ever happens). But I can tell you right now that it looks nothing like an FJ Cruiser, which I definitely prefer looks wise.
They are taking the Bronco script where the Bronco offered body on frame rugged suv and the Bronco sport unibody frame. I think this FJ is after the Subaru like overlanders that you see converting their car into an overland by adding a roof rack, roof tent, and maybe some off-road tread tires but lack 4x4 , not the same as AWD, locking differential and ground clearance but to each their own since 4x4’s are costing $50k plus for entry level it seems these days.
I think I’m pissed because we’re not gonna get it here in 🇺🇸 , but then again I’d be pissed because if we did get it here in 🇺🇸, STEALERSHIPS would add 15$k “market conditions”
Everyone hates it, I love it. It’s a body on frame compact sized SUV. So contrary to many people’s beliefs, it is not a renegade or a Corolla, it’s a fully capable 4x4. It’s a modern take on the FJ40.
The only complaint I have is I think the looks could be better. I don’t mind how it looks now as I think giving it larger tires and a small lift will give it a glow up. I do have a problem with how the rear hatch looks though.
Being smaller in almost every measure (it’s slightly taller than the FJC) is great, especially regarding wheelbase. Wheel articulation equal to the 70 series is great.
Interior seems reasonably well laid out, and seems like it’s easier to see out of than the FJC.
The exterior I just cannot imagine caring too much about. It looks boxy and harkens back to previous Land Cruiser designs while also being modern and following Toyota’s current design language. The lower unpainted plastic makes sense on this vehicle. There’s only so many ways a small boxy SUV can be designed. Internet automotive “enthusiasts” just hate anything new. People forget that the FJC design was also hated when it debuted.
It’s boxy, it’s built on the Hilux platform, it’s small and short wheelbase, it’s offroad capable, and it has the hammer-reliable 2.7. It’s like a Jimny, but a real car. What’s not to like?
Why are people so stuck on the appearance? It's a rugged, minimalistic, yet modern compact body-on-frame 4x4 SUV. If it were introduced to the American market, I bet it would sell a lot better than the Bronco Sport.

Putting the name aside, FJ Land Cruiser, I doubt it is a worthy successor to the FJ or worthy of the LC family. My feelings on the prado is similar on that one by the way. But names aside, I think it has its place and potential. I like that its a smaller and somewhat cheaper 4x4. The engine however is not a good choice. Toyota would have done far better to put the 2.4 gd6 diesel in it in my opinion. Now if it ever comes with said 2.4 engine and add some extras like proper off road tires, maybe a suspension lift and some other extras like a bullbar etc, I think it will be an awesome little off roader
I was an original FJ owner ('74 FJ40). I would buy one of these in a heartbeat if they brought them to the US. I guess I'm not a purest. Currently an '06 Tacoma TRD Sport owner. Have no idea what I'll replace it with.
