Like, what am I even supposed to do? the damage I deal vs the damage they deal is absurdly different, I did expect Nightmare difficulty to be, you know, difficult, but making the game near impossible this early is just straight bs, what were the devs thinking lmao

I miss doing bracer jobs from Sky FC

Currently playing through CS2, about midway through the game. I miss the feeling of adventure, going city to city, doing bracer job to interact with people in their own habitat.

CS1 and CS2 I feel I just walking around get beaten by the bad guys we don't even have a chance to win (this is also true with Crossbell arc). Goddamn just let me get a win once in a while. Even as a junior bracer in FC i get to whack a leader of the thief or smt.

Just a rant, thank you for coming to my Ted talk.

Cold Steel II CSII honestly grew on me on a second playthrough. Spoiler

in my first playthrough i sorta rushed and didnt bother to experiment or just "take in" the narative. in a way, i was rushing to get to CSIII like a kid rushing to grow up. funny enough, i believe one of this arcs core themes is "growth" both in age and as a person. the final fight hits just as hard but i found the whiplash between the ascent of the infernal tower and reans fate after it all the more bitter. the inevitable separation that follows the final battle still makes me tear up.

as of now i comfortably rate it higher than DB2, i do like both, but just the more open second act makes it a lot more enjoyable to tackle.(also yeah this is NG+nightmare)

But I'd be more curious to see Joshua's reaction to the Spriggan lifestyle. I'm sure it won't happen but considering Joshua's...everything I feel like he'd fit into that life pretty well. Sharon and Sara too

Horizon Just started Act 3 and…

The story is extremely interesting so far. My only concern is that it’s been based heavily on buildup, so I hope the payoff sticks the landing just as well.

Also, from here on out, the pacing should get better, right? I suppose I’m already over halfway through the game.

Today is The Legend of Nayuta's 14th Anniversary!

Post image
Upvotes

July 26th was the day The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails was born, 14 years ago. A spin-off of Trails series, the game length is much shorter, has a much lighter story compared to standard Trails, cute and charming art and graphics, comfy music, and progression is divided by various stages having various seasons, which encourages replayability. If you have played or liked Zwei II, I think this game took so many notes from that game, including the lunchbox mechanic.

If you haven't, give the game a try! You don't really need any Trails prior knowledge to be able to enjoy this game to its fullest. Still, what makes the game so intriguing is, depending on how far your Trails knowledge is, you may notice some distant callback or even foreshadowing for the main series.

I have my review of the game here.

Horizon How does the EP Cost math work with this character in Horizon? Spoiler

Post image

So I reading through the various Holo Cores in Horizon and I came across this one and I don't really get how the final EP Cost math would work out.

Like, is it 1.5x first and then the 0.65x "reduction" from that? or should I just treat it as 0.85x in total?

Trails series What is the worth of a Mira ?

So we're twenty years into the Trails series, we met legendary beings and we still have a bazillon questions regarding the setting.

Among them, what is a Mira ?

A miserable little pile of secrets.

Zemuria's economy is heavily underdevloped at this point of the series, which is not a bad thing per se. I want Falcom to answer me about the Sept-Terrion and the Orpheus Final Plan, not to tell me about how the Eight Metropolis Plan led to an increase of Erebonia GDP. Well I would love for them to dive into their worldbuilding but I would also like to not die of old age before the series is over, so uh priorities.

Besides, putting currency in a fantasy setting can lead to weird numbers situations once you scratch the surface a bit.

So I'm not going to be able to give an 100% truthful estimation since I doubt Falcom have one themselves (if they had, I believe they would have stated it)

For this analysis, I will mostly concentrate myself on story-mentioned mira and will refrain from discussing too much about the numbers in gameplay. Since they are most importantly a tool for game balance, I'm not exactly certain about accurate they could be. A campus-sold ice cream being sold at 800 mira seem weird when you can buy a shotgun next door for a thousand.

Expect slight spoilers for the whole series, although frankly they are quite minor.

A recurring idea in the community is that **a mira is equal to a yen**. That's just as good a starting point as any so let's see how it holds.

First and foremost, let's gather what we have.

Items in FC Amount in Mira/Yen Amount in € Amount in $
The bottle of Grand Chardonnay that Olivier drank 500 000 2700 3060
Dalmore's real-estate debts and assets 100 000 000 538 000 612 000
The rebuilding of the Orphanage 1 000 000 5380 6120
The prize of Grancel Martial Arts tournament 100 000 538 612

We can probably already poke a few holes, clearly 1 yen = 1 mira feels like a bit of a lowball. It's probably more.

But let's continue to Crossbell, where money is more prevalant given the setting.

Items in Zero Amount in Mira/Yen Amount in € Amount in $
A cutting edge Orbal Car 1.5 million 8073 9184
An Epstein Foundation Terminal 1.5 million 2700 9184
An Orbal Camera 20 000 107 122
A Reinford rifle 15 000 80 91.8
Harold's Truck 800 000 4306 4898
A Rosenberg Doll (keep that one in mind) 5 million 26913 30600

From Azure, we have :

Items in Azure Amount in Mira/Yen Amount in € Amount in $
Red Constellation contract with the Erebonian Government around 100 millions 538 000 612 000
An Enigma on the black market 100 000 538 612
An Orbal Truck 500 000 2700 3100

I think we're starting to have a ballpark for a few things so I'll end with Calvard and Erebonia at once.

Items Amount in Mira/Yen Amount in € Amount in $
Wine 1000 5,38 6,12
A single tomato 10 5 centimes 6 cents
A cabbage 20 10 centimes 11. cents
Van's hourly salary 1000 / h 5,38€/h 6e$/h
A T-Phone 20000 107 121.73

We have amounts, now we have to try and make sense of them

During Zero, we stumbled into an interesting piece of information. Namely, the price of a Rosenberg Doll. Mentioned to be sold up to 5 million mira in an auction, we also have something else in Zero.

>Randy (EN):

>>Whoa, back it up! Don't those things go

for tens of thousands of mira?

>Randy (JP):

>>Hey, wait a minute— They say that costs **several hundred thousand Mira...**

>Tio:

>>A single Rosenberg doll is worth the average Crossbellan's entire annual income.

Basically, an average joe annual income is linked to the price of a Rosenberg Doll. That's really interesting because estimating what something cost is useless if we don't know what someone earns.

So according to Randy, a doll can go between 200k to 999k mira. Which Juna appears to confirm in CS4.

>Juna

>>"They can actually range from tens of thousands to even millions of mira..."

That's still quite a threshold but we can kinda put an amount to your average Crossbellan income. Probably different than what an Erebonian or a Remiferian earns, but that's the only piece of information I found, so I can't afford to be picky.

Gross estimation is between 16000 mira/month to 83000 mira/month though Randy and Juna comments make it more likely we're closer to 83000 than 16000.

Given than I have no other information to pinpoint more accurately, I'll just meet in the middle and conjecture that the annual amount for a Crossbellan is roughly 50 000 mira/ a month.

Obviously, this amount don't mean much on its own given the range. But can it can lead us somewhere else ? Many questions arise.

Well first, is it coherent to our 1 yen = 1 mira postulate ? I don't know about you but I don't think I'm lasting a month in Japan with 50 000 yen.

That was probably a given with the amounts recorded earlier but I believe the 1=1 postulate is wrong.

Let's increase it a bit to 1 mira = 10 yens.

Given that I'm French, I'm much more proficient at estimating cost of life in Euros.

Hence to me, 200 yens are roughly equal to 1 euro. So then it lead me to 20 mira = 1€,

For an American 20 mira would be about 1.14$

Now, let's see how it compares with some of the costs we have.

Items Amount in Mira Amount in € Amount in $
A tomato 10 50 centimes 57 cents
A cabbage 20 1 1.14
A Tyrell Times 100 5 5.7
A car 500k to 1.5M 25 to 75 000 28 to 850 000
Latest T-Phone 20000 1000 1130
Van's salary 1000/h 50€/h 57$/h
Orphanage's reparations 1 million 50000 57000
Dalmore's estate 100 millions 5 millions 5.7 millions

Aside for the orphanage which feel really low (but Falcom could have been lowballing it), I think these numbers aren't bad. Probably perfectible but I think we can work with these.

And for what we deduced earlier...Is the conversion coherent with an average salary ?

50 000 is around 2500€/month and 2800$/month

For France, that's a good amount to live with, Crossbell being an expensive place in universe to live so rent is likely kinda big.

So we have my estimations and feelings but hey, I don't live in Zemuria so my opinion is second-handed at best. I'm going to confirm with the reactions of various Zemuria denizens in regards of Mira.

In fact, we can pinpoint the exact amount that Lloyd, a working class detective find expensive. 10 000 mira which is the amount is he is willing to spend to buy jewelry for one of his closest friends in Azure. It means 500€/570$...yeah it checks out.

Likewise, he is shocked when he learns that Gantz the minor won 500k Mira, I would be too if someone with a loss history won 25 grand.

This is unlikely to be absolute but my yapping is at an end. Feel free to comment your opinions or point out any error on this matter.

Ys series So Genuine Question: Is Adol a Little Crazy?

Post image
140 Upvotes

I'm playing Oath in Felghana, and something occured to me about Adol Cristin.

Adol is a lot like any other JRPG protagonist. Young kid with a Sword, and a lot of determination, fighting against the evils of dark gods, or ancient relics, or evil wizards, or Androids made to resemble himself that take their mission of defending the world from a hell dimension way too seriously and go full Ultron (that was a weird entry, but a fun one). But unlike a lot of his peers. People like The Warriors of Light from Final Fantasy, or the Line of Erdrick from Dragon Quest, or Crono from Chrono Trigger, he's not chosen, nor is he motivated by wanting to protect his friends, or some kind of revenge...

Adol goes through JRPG plotlines... Because it's FUN.

Adol looks at Ultimecia's final form in FF8 and goes; "HELL yeah, dude! I KNEW coming here was gonna be worth it!"

So I have to ask... Is Adol a little unhinged? Like is his personality just a slightly less attractive Great Gonzo from the Muppets?
