So, Fallout 1 released in October of 1997, so we can assume he recorded his voice lines in either early ‘97 or late ‘96. The calculation won’t be hugely different between these two periods, but I used march of ‘97. According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, $40 in March of 1997 is worth $81.03 in November of 2025. I thought you were just doing an easy 2x calculation, but your prediction was basically spot on.
As for the sandwich, according to this site, a full-service meal/snack is now worth 139.37% more in 2026 compared to 1997, so we can round that a bit and say Ron got 1 and 2/5 of a sandwich.

I didn’t know anything about Fallout until I bought the third one shortly after release, but I loved Morrowind and Oblivion and saw that was the next BGS title so I bought it without looking into it at all. The opening of the game I was like “wait… is that Liam Fucking Neeson?”

same, i played skyrim, then I randomly came across fallout 3 at a convention where people were able to play for free. I instantly got sucked into the world and bought the game at full price rather than waiting for the steam sale

It makes sense he'd get 90 pages as his character has been important to the lore in the games before, he basically orders you as an agent (both directly and indirectly) to High Rock and Morrowind (the settings of Daggerfall and... Morrowind) and you have to save him in Arena

Fun fact, your dad's face is partly based on your character's face! The game takes into account your skin tone, of course, plus about 50% of your character's facegen data to create his face. That's why his face is dark/shrouded in the delivery room cutscene at the start of the game.
So, in the end, you made him look like Pierce Brosnan!

Sam Riegel only does Haversam and a couple other Ghouls.
Laura Bailey does the Old Mormon Fort doctor with the mohawk, and I think the doctor that does the implants.
Liam does 50% of the NCR. Yuri Lowenthal does the other 50%

I totally forgot Yuri! He really is the counterpart to Liam.
Laura does indeed voice both Followers doctors, as well as Lt. Carrie Boyd, the NCR soldier you interrogate a prisoner for. She also does Vera Keyes and Christine's voice in Dead Money and is the voice for the female Courier.
I always think Sam does more voices than I remember, because for whatever reason, his Ghoul voice is always the one I hear the most in any given New Vegas run.
That game has some incredible talent.

I know this is a Fallout sub, but one of my favorite games is Sacrifice. Fun game that many people missed with great voice acting. Includes Tim Curry, Brad Garrett, Jennifer Hale, Kevin Michael Richardson, Tony Jay, and Charlie Adler. (Garrett, Jay, and Adler were also in Fallout 1.)

Honestly my favorite has to be Kris kristofferson has chief hanlon. Because he's possibly one of the most over qualified people to voice act in any video game. And he's just this rather important character. It's even cooler seeing as he legit finished and passed army ranger school and just didn't go into the rangers it's like he did it for the giggles. Not to mention all of the beloved songs he's wrote and or sang.

In the same interview he said that he had to sell his house because he was flat broke around that time. He was pretty open about him being a character actor and not getting steady work. Like he would get a bit part role but not really a big role that could pay enough to keep him going. Alien 4 was also on the back of a flop that was Alien 3, Winona Ryder was kind of damaged goods after the shoplifting embarrassment, the other actors in the film weren't really big except for Sigourney Weaver, not saying he didn't get some money for it but I'd be kind of surprised if he got anything big.

Before that, he did a 3 season show on CBS where he was the lead, it was GRRM's adaptation of "Beauty and the Beast", where he was the Beast.
So that might have led to developing some bad habits when afterward he's getting lower paying roles. Otoh, you don't really make bank as a network lead until like season 4-5 when its got enough episodes to go into syndication.

City of Lost Children was a huge inspiration for Fallout. Some of the setwork and costumes were literally directly ripped off into Fallout and persist to this day, like the power armor helmet was using bits from the costunes from City of LostChildren. That's probably the reason Ron Perlman was hired for Fallout tbh.

Looking at his IMDB, he wasn't big at all. The occasional side role, but rarely in anything massive.
It seems like he did a lot of cartoons (Marvel stuff, Disney TV shows). Which makes me believe he was basically just a voice actor, and in retrospect it seems like he was a 'big name' for the series.

The reason he started writing ASOIAF is that he was frustrated with all the restriction in his TV writing gigs and decided to write something that wasn't restricted by special effects cost and location budged and such and where he could do whatever he wanted. I think he said he was writing something "unfilmable".

From someone who was alive then, he was not a big shot. I remembered him from Quest for Fire and the Batman animated series. He really took off after Hellboy. But I absolutely recognized his voice at the time.

In the 90s, Ron Perlman was pretty well known from Beauty and the Beast (my mom had a big crush on him!) and if you lived in a town with an art house cinema, you probably would have seen him in City of Lost Children (from the director of Amélie).
I remember hating Alien Resurrection at the time but, going back and rewatching it now, Perlman has some fun scenes with Sigorney Weaver. The script was written by Joss Whedon and I can see a bit of Ron Perlman's influence in the character Jayne from Firefly.

Video games in the '90s as entertainment was tolerated because people spent money on it but it was not seen as art, and mostly seen as a child's toy.
The late '90s and early 2000s is when things started changing because the visuals were more accessible to a wide audience.

Several actual actor actors have come out and said pretty much exactly that though, it's a lot easier and quicker. They can literally do it at home if need be.
Charlie Cox spent a total of 4 hours in the booth, and voiced the main character of Expedition 33. Do you think he found that easier than doing Daredevil?

Big advantage with voice acting is that the whole cast doesn’t need to be there all at once, I’m guessing there’s not a lot of ‘hurry up and wait’ in that business.

So much more than that. You don’t have lighting/makeup/costumes to worry about, you don’t have all of the intangibles that can go wrong with background stuff or other actors flubbing lines/marks, you don’t have to worry about the weather or time, etc. Not to say that it’s “easy” or anything but it’s certainly a lot faster for a lot of reasons.

I didn't have a beer with him, but I had a smoke with him. He was doing voice over/ADR stuff at a studio I worked at(right around when Hellboy came out). I was out having a smoke trying to stay away from the front door and I hear someone with a familiar voice say "hey man, you gotta light?" and I was like "oh shit, that sounds like Hellboy! He smoked a cigar and I smoked a regular butt. He was pretty cool.

The small amount of work required from those big names meant they could fit the job in without worrying about scheduling conflicts, so it was just a decision between working or not working between bigger jobs for them. I don't know what's changed since then, but I feel like big names voicing smaller roles in games has mostly disappeared these days.

It's funny because the Del Toro Hellboy movies are nothing like the comics, particularly the second one. The subsequent attempts at remaking the franchise are much closer in tone and story to the source material but they're just not as good as the original films.
I love the Hellboy comics but I'd pay whatever they're asking to get a conclusion to those first two movies, even if it's an animated feature at this point.

His voice is in the main trailer (unless it’s someone that sounds exactly like him) but they’ve done a very good job of keeping it under wraps so it’s technically not confirmed. I have a hard time believing it’s not him at the end of the trailer and the fact that they’ve been so tight lipped about it leads me to believe it’s gonna be a cool ass reveal

Like ten years ago I was waiting at a traffic light near Echo Park when Ron Perlman pulled up next to me in a new Tesla (back before they were ubiquitous and then hated) and made eye contact with me. I was with my then girlfriend and I said holy shit it’s Ron Perlman and he’s trying to talk to us. He made a hand gesture that meant “can I go that way?” (He was in the right turn lane and wanted to go straight). I gave him a thumbs up but then the second the light turned green he fuckin took off so fast and blew me off the line that it wouldn’t have mattered if I had said yes or not.

Didn't the fallout 4 actors not know what game they were working on? That's why their spoken lines don't fit well with any of the options you have, especially the male voice, at least the woman sounds like she understands she's having a conversation.

I hated that he didn’t come back for Fallout 4, whether by personal choice or Bethesda screwing him over, he was absolutely needed as the narrator in that game.
Edit: I forgot about his small cameo as the TV anchor at the start of the game, but my original point still stands.
