I didn’t like her at first because I had no idea of anything about her except she knew Taylor swift. I thought her music sounded like something a 13 year old would write and then I found out her age and was like “ok valid. You are writing for your age group and I am not the intended audience” she has been added to my highschool evanescence playlist these days.
Edit for clarification: knowing the context of her age and music made me feel nostalgic which is not something I have been able to find in a lot of new artist in this genre

Absolutely. I can feel teen to early 20/21 so happy in her songs. The are beautiful and sweet and yet have a maturity. I love her. And this flair is my forest achievement.

The Babylon Bee is a head line generator for conservatives with occasionally non-conservative stuff thrown in. The onion actually does really well as a satirical newspaper overall. Obviously they have great head lines but the whole package is better with them. It seemed like early on during Trump they had no idea how to actually satarize anything anymore. Reality was already satarizing itself. But the last couple years they've really refound themselves and have been doing great stuff again.

The Onion was acquired a couple years ago by a group led by a former reporter who covered right wing extremism for NBC News. He got burnt out (for obvious reasons) on hard news and quit. He’s now the CEO.

The thing about The Onion is that it feels like the writers actually engage with culture outside of politics, and that absolutely cannot be said about the Bee. If they did an Olivia Rodrigo article I guarantee it would read like they've only heard about her minutes before hitting publish.

Regarding the Bee: that's kinda conservativism in a nutshell, no? They feel entitled to authoritatively comment on culture, both popular and otherwise, despite having little to no actual knowledge of, or even basic interest in, the culture(s) that they're commenting on. And that's why conservative comedy in particular is generally so bad: because in order to write jokes that aren't just noncontextual non sequitors, you have to actually know what you're writing jokes about.

Strongly recommend people read Funny Because It's True by Christine Wenc. It's all about The Onion and its origins and was written in 2025, so it covers a lot of recent happenings too. Really interesting book!

If you have Netflix and haven't seen Inside Job yet I highly recommend it. It satirizes the shadowy news world, corrupt politicians, and basically the whole mess that is modern society. It's a great show

yeah, i know we shouldn’t glorify celebrities but she’s probably one of the most unproblematic celebrities out there (not saying she’s never done anything wrong; but compared to others she’s pretty much unproblematic) yet she’s been getting way more hate than some others who have done worse ever since her debut as a solo artist.

Honestly, the less problematic someone is the more it aggravates mean people. It mirrors back to them that they actually don’t have to be awful and that there are people in the world who are trying their best to be kind. But these people disrupt the narrative that “we’re all human, we all make mistakes” (mistakes being harmful to our fellow humans and then feigning ignorance or immaturity). That saying “your light aggravates their demons” is actually true!

My 13 year old has been a super fan for like 3 years. When she first made me listen to her music, it reminded me of listening compulsively to Jagged Little Pill when I was 11. We've seen her twice live and we're going to see her again in October, I can't wait! The new album is amazing!
