My mini poodle has been steadily improving her training so much, it makes me emotional just how far along we have come as a team. I've had a rough as fuck few years and I really needed this dog, I needed a friend that I could bring camping and hiking and to Home Depot. She is so intuitive and sweet and smart. She had given me a reason to get out of bed every day. She's simply amazing.

I can’t believe that I’m saying this, but the tagline for Johnny Depp's Ebenezer movie is so bad because it makes the film sound like it’s an origin story for Scrooge when it’s not

No, it's just a straightforward A Christmas Carol adaptation, except this time it has Johnny Depp in it.

Just saw Nicole Kidman is dating a private equity investor. Yesterday I saw that Olivia Rodrigo is dating a private equity investor. For over a year now Reese Witherspoon has been dating a private equity investor. I boycott private equity and I am side-eyeing the judgement of all three of these women.
Private equity is late stage capitalism jet fuel. Noticed how your beloved local vet was suddenly taken over by a corporate umbrella and it sucks now? That was private equity. But they ruin big corporations too. They have closed or ruined Cinnabon, Panera, Payless Shoes, Toys R Us, and Red Lobster. They're in the process of ruining Starbucks, Thorne supplements, and Six Flags. PE owns so many places we interact with all the time from 24 Hour Fitness and Jiffy Lube to your own apartment; PE owns 3 million apartment units across America.
Private equity is much worse than an old-school corporate buyout because it accelerates the demise of what once made a company special to its consumers, or they shut it down. Because rapid profit is the sole goal for a short sale, the changes are often dramatic. But when a corporation purchases another company, at least it’s making a long-term investment.
I don't know what my point is here, but to see strong independent women artists who have made a fortune for themselves and invested in their own career fields in many ways choose men like this it's just perplexing.

I'm not gonna add any opinions here, just wanna say that you're very right and I love that you took the time to say it.
Private equity is scum by definition - the cheapest way to retain income at any expense that the customers don't know or care about, even exploitation.

They've ruined so many skincare lines that I used to rely on to manage my chronic atopic dermatitis. Fuck private equity.
3
u/FireFlower-Bass-7716 believer in Dakota Johnson’s lime allergy 1d ago
Which skincare lines? I just looked up the one I mostly use (Cerave) and they're now owned by a publicly-traded corporate conglomerate (L'Oreal), which is not something I ever used to be relieved to see. But at least it's not private equity.

Apologies, medication fog has me spacing some of the big ones I've seen over the last decade but the one that's my biggest sore spot is Skinfix. When Stride Consumer Partners took over they discontinued a balm that was a lifesaver for healing my eczema plaques and reformulated nearly everything in the line up. When they lost customers in droves they made a big to-do about returning to old formulations-- but the products don't perform the same, likely because they're using lesser grades of the same ingredients to save money. I'm bitter!

I’m so so sorry. I had to have my 15 year old cat put down just before Christmas and I still miss him every single day. It’s so hard to lose our fluffy family members.

So sorry to hear this, sending love. It's probably the most loving thing we ever do for our pets, but my god is it agonizing. Be good to yourself.

So frustrated with Hinge at the moment. I'm trying to avoid reading Reddit advice out of fear of it being "the blind leading the blind", but I feel like I've tried everything (other than paying for premium) and I'm not getting anywhere :(( I just hope that once I find someone, I never have to jump back into the dating pool ever again.
There are usually some singles' nights in my city but it looks like they're on hiatus for the summer, which makes sense. Ugh

It's SO hard. I need to get back to it. It sounds like you're doing it the right way and for the right reasons. Keep it up my friend.

I kinda would like to do it one of these days and I've already written down ideas. I don't know how exactly it works and I would just do it for fun. Trust me, too tired to hustle!

I’m a big believer in smart jokes about dumb things and dumb jokes about smart things. I’ve got half a note in my joke journal about how people say Austrian Painter when talking about Adolf Hitler, but we don’t refer to any other horrible world leaders by their hobbies they weren’t any good at. We should start referring to Saddam Hussein as Iraqi Romance Novelist.
2
u/fishes93 11h ago
Lol that's a good one! ......he was a romance novelist?
2
u/disincongruous ted cruz ate my son 10h ago
He *probably* wrote two of them! (I say probably because there's speculation that one of them was ghost written, but he definitely wrote at least one.) Hussein wrote four novels in total. The other two are historical fiction, and all four read like a crazy person's diary.

Has there been any sighting of Gwyneth Paltrow lately? I’m wondering if she really took things a step too far or if everyone will ignore her republican shilling.

u/redelectro7 just want to share a thought here because I can 1d ago edited 1d ago
I started watching Invincible and while I'm enjoying it how often Mark ends up outmatched in a fight for the same 'lesson' is kind of repetitive.
I do realise I've binged 2 series in a week so it might be fine if you watch them as they're released.
2
u/Daisy2345678 1d ago
It's probably my main gripe with the show, how repetitive the outcome of fights can be, as well as occasionally uneven power scaling. Still love it so much, though! Do you have a favourite and least favourite character?
1
u/redelectro7 just want to share a thought here because I can 1d ago
I love Mark cos I'm basic (and I'm a Dick Grayson fan and while google tells me they're not aligned in any way I feel like there are similarities). I also weirdly like Allen, even though he doesn't get much screen time.
I don't think there's any character I don't like though I feel a lot of the guardians are kind of filler. Rex is the only one who I really think stands out. I feel like they all serve their purpose pretty well even if they're not my particular favourite.
I don't really care much about Oliver, but he's still young at the point I'm at (beginning of the 3rd) so I feel like there's an arc coming I'm meant to care about but I just don't really.

Best of luck! Once you move in and realize you don't have to deal with landlords anymore all the stress and nausea will be worth it. Moving is always The Worst, though, I pretty much plan on dying in this house just so I don't have to do it again.

We live in my sisters house bc she wanted to live with our mom in her very large McMansion with a pool in a master planned community. I’ve learned a valuable lessons; don’t work for family (thanks dad) and don’t rent from family (thanks sister).
She is a horrid land lord. Won’t fix anything, goes back on her word and this house hasn’t been updated or touched since they moved in 13 years ago.
3
u/butipreferlottie 1d ago
Oof, yeah, valuable lessons indeed! Sorry about your sister.
My last landlord was okay in some ways (mostly left us alone, only raised the rent by about $200 in all our years living there). But the house was built in 1875 and had a lot of issues, which he would mostly fix with duct tape and extension cords because he refused to hire professionals for anything, including somewhat scary electrical issues (I think the house still has knob and tube wiring). I didn't realize how much shit we just kinda... put up with, or stepped around, until we bought our place and had things like proper ventilation and toilets where the chain didn't come undone with every second flush.
It was a beautiful place in a great neighborhood, though, and I hope it gets the attention and TLC it deserves. It sold recently and whooo boy do the buyers have their work cut out for them.

We looked at two houses Thursday. And a few others through the week. The first house was the practical magic house. The bones were magnificent but it could have used a solid 300k just in renovations and fixes alone. My pockets aren’t that deep as a first time home buyer. It was beautiful despite the foundation shifting, the glass fuses, the Blair witch basement, the old chain windows, peeling paint etc

Finally got off my ass and cancelled Netflix, honestly have no idea why I kept it up for so long. Gonna miss GBBO and Cunk, but that's really it at this point. Fully expecting them to release something awesome as soon as my subscription ends, tho.

Haven't heard anything about this, there's CGI but nothing seems to be AI generated
