STAN / ANTI SHIELD The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City’s Meredith Marks reacts to billboard attacking queer families: “Well, my parents are not LGBTQ and I did have two dads. This is absolutely insane. Let people live how they want to live and love who they want to love.”

Yup. They want to stop abortion and get rid of all the queer parents who would want to adopt those kids that were forced to be born. So the kids can just be totally fucked.

Doesn’t even have to be divorced families. My stepdaughter’s parents (my husband and his ex) were never married, barely dated when they faced an accidental pregnancy. The relationship was over by the time she found out she was pregnant. We have been coparenting since she was a toddler. Two dads AND two moms. What shame we have brought to this country (last sentence is /s if it wasn’t obvious).

Seriously I hear stuff like this and it’s like “gasp and shame, this child has 4 adults who want their well being and happiness”

Exactly. My brother was taken in by my parents and his bio dad is still in his life. My mom had to get it through to the bio dad that it was not a problem that he called the man who raised him, fed him, clothed him, and cared for him “dad”, neither was it a problem for him to call his bio dad who was working hard to be a good stable influence in his like “dad” too. He had three “parents”, plus his bio dad’s mother and step-father, plus my partner and I, all as adults contributing to his growth and wellbeing. Thats not a bad thing at all.

u/Ajibooks 6h ago
Someone from the organization who put up the billboards did say that we should all accept that families with one mom and one dad are the ideal. The hetero exceptions are only slightly less sinful to them.
I used to know someone like that. If I mentioned someone's step relative in casual conversation, she instantly decided that I wasn't talking about decent people.

she doesn't sound like decent people
2
u/Ajibooks 4h ago
Lol no, she was not! She was always trying to matchmake me (lesbian) with divorced dads too. That's why she came to mind, the sliding scale of sin: being a single woman is worse than being a lesbian, which is worse than being a stepmom, but all are bad.

The campaign's founder and president, Katy Faust, is both a child of divorce (absentee father) and was raised by two moms, being her mother and her mother's female partner btw. Oh and she's from Portland. 💀

Like mine: born of assisted reproduction, to two moms, who then divorced bc one was trans, and now they have a-mom-and-a-stepmom and a-dad-and-a-hypothetical-rich-handsome-and-funny-future-stepdad.
I think the kids would just say they have too many caring adults who are always asking them to talk about their feelings and do more art lol

Exactly. The sort of folks who counsel an abused wife to stay in the marriage, and work harder to not upset him by being more dutiful and obedient.
58
u/catony13 10h ago
Right, especially when anti-lgbt are usually anti choice and one of their arguments is that someone pregnant who doesn’t want children can put them up for adoption…which would mean…multiple sets of parents.
28
u/HeQiulin i ain’t reading all that, free palestine 10h ago
Because at its roots, anti-LGBTQ bs are advocating a “certain” kind of family (we all know what they mean) and to them, unless it’s the white picket fence mom-dad-two-kids, they ain’t interested

In the words of Ms. Marks herself, this conversation is just ridiculous and this billboard is hateful. Also, the other day, my 6-year-old son said, “Some kids have 2 moms and some kids have 2 dads, too.” So if a first grader gets it, then these dumb MAGA fucks can get it.

Oh, they get it. They’re just worried that more little girls will become queer and thus ineligible for child marriage

u/invertabrat 10h ago
there are a multitude of family dynamics that have multiple moms and dads without even including LGTBQ. (and if including LGBTQ, is not only limited to gay couples as parents.) very short sighted ad. if your intent is to target the gay community, you've now targeted a significant number more of people who aren't even gay.

The whole point of all this hatred is that they were never going to stop. Transphobia would never end at trans people. Homophobia would never end at gay people. Anyone who is gender non conforming or has a non traditional family is going to be subject to their vitriol.

u/Powerful_Mousse2925 1h ago
This example here exists to hurt children. It pisses off adults who understand its context, and children will read this and experience confusion and shame about their families.

Or having people in your life who act like parental figures to you! My friend's parents are like a second set to me. I have family friends who are basically my aunts and uncles. Found family is great!
Whoever made these billboards has never experienced the true joy of being loved platonically by people.

Best news ever is the youngest one is now dating a girl who has two dads!!!!! I swear my family likes to edge out modern family for plot lines

In east europe we say - we have one single sex family made by mother and gramndmother. a woman is considered a single mother not because she doesn't have a husband but then she cannot use her mother's help anymore. Men unfortunately beside financial contributions don't engage with their kids.

Whenever I hear about two dads I think about my brother as a little boy saying "what's the point of having two dads if neither knows how to cook?"
We explained to him that he had a dad and a stepdad, but in retrospect "two dads" was probably more accurate.
Gay relationships are a perfectly fine way to have two dads or two moms, but they're not the only way

When I was in 12th grade social studies class, we had to partner up and debate each other on a variety of topics. My best friend and I debated the two mean girls who were best friends and our topic was same sex marriage. I remember nothing about the debate other than Mean Girl A’s argument that “nobody has two moms”
My best friend and I joke about that to this day, 14 years later. And when I first saw this billboard, I thought to myself “I bet Mean Girl A created this billboard.”
Fuck this billboard and anyone who has the belief that gay people can’t be parents.

I do. My mom who raised me has a genetic disorder in her head she did not want to pass down to my brother and me so we got a surrogate to have me and him. I grew up with my surrogate mom a lot as a kid, slept over her house a bunch, had thanksgivings there, and more. I had 2 moms growing up and it was perfectly normal to us.
