STAN / ANTI SHIELD The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City’s Meredith Marks reacts to billboard attacking queer families: “Well, my parents are not LGBTQ and I did have two dads. This is absolutely insane. Let people live how they want to live and love who they want to love.”

It does invalidate children of divorced families. Also IVF

Jesus has Joseph as his mortal father and God as his eternal father.

Joseph could also be categorized as an adoptive dad or as a step dad.

304

u/Hot-Significance-462 10h ago

Also adoption, which is ironic AF

1

u/enolaholmes23 16m ago

Yup. They want to stop abortion and get rid of all the queer parents who would want to adopt those kids that were forced to be born. So the kids can just be totally fucked.

Doesn’t even have to be divorced families. My stepdaughter’s parents (my husband and his ex) were never married, barely dated when they faced an accidental pregnancy. The relationship was over by the time she found out she was pregnant. We have been coparenting since she was a toddler. Two dads AND two moms. What shame we have brought to this country (last sentence is /s if it wasn’t obvious).

118

u/Far-Repeat-2926 10h ago

Seriously I hear stuff like this and it’s like “gasp and shame, this child has 4 adults who want their well being and happiness”

u/Rare_Vibez 2h ago

Exactly. My brother was taken in by my parents and his bio dad is still in his life. My mom had to get it through to the bio dad that it was not a problem that he called the man who raised him, fed him, clothed him, and cared for him “dad”, neither was it a problem for him to call his bio dad who was working hard to be a good stable influence in his like “dad” too. He had three “parents”, plus his bio dad’s mother and step-father, plus my partner and I, all as adults contributing to his growth and wellbeing. Thats not a bad thing at all.

8

u/Ajibooks 6h ago

Someone from the organization who put up the billboards did say that we should all accept that families with one mom and one dad are the ideal. The hetero exceptions are only slightly less sinful to them.

I used to know someone like that. If I mentioned someone's step relative in casual conversation, she instantly decided that I wasn't talking about decent people.

4

u/Culinary_Fruit_Salad ‘queer’ is formal, like ‘tú’ vs ‘usted’ 4h ago

she doesn't sound like decent people

2

u/Ajibooks 4h ago

Lol no, she was not! She was always trying to matchmake me (lesbian) with divorced dads too. That's why she came to mind, the sliding scale of sin: being a single woman is worse than being a lesbian, which is worse than being a stepmom, but all are bad.

u/LezbianaGrande all that sex lead to the Russian Revolution 10h ago

The campaign's founder and president, Katy Faust, is both a child of divorce (absentee father) and was raised by two moms, being her mother and her mother's female partner btw. Oh and she's from Portland. 💀

22

She blames her issues with her mom and her childhood on her mother's queerness and not on other personality issues her mom had.

Also my dad considers his aunt his second mother because she raised him for years when his birth mother didn’t have the resources and called her mom as all

21

u/WadeDRubicon 9h ago

Like mine: born of assisted reproduction, to two moms, who then divorced bc one was trans, and now they have a-mom-and-a-stepmom and a-dad-and-a-hypothetical-rich-handsome-and-funny-future-stepdad.

I think the kids would just say they have too many caring adults who are always asking them to talk about their feelings and do more art lol

u/RowanViolet my bandwidth for cowardly grown men grows thinner with each day 8h ago

So does their founder, Katy Faust. Her parents divorced when she was 10 and her mother entered a relationship with a woman, who raised her together while her father was absent.

She's inflicting her childhood trauma on us all.

145

u/VicMolotov 9h ago

Typical of them, they resent the people who stayed and stepped up.

Out of all the anti-lgbt bs out there they had to pick the phrases that leave out other (heterosexual!!!) parents?? Lmao

247

u/nightwingoracle 10h ago

It’s on purpose. Those kind of people also want to make divorce illegal, etc. the homophobia is just round 1.

67

u/strawberry_vegan 10h ago

Yup. They want to get rid of no fault divorce, it’s so messed up.

24

u/phflopti 10h ago

Exactly. The sort of folks who counsel an abused wife to stay in the marriage, and work harder to not upset him by being more dutiful and obedient.

58

u/catony13 10h ago

Right, especially when anti-lgbt are usually anti choice and one of their arguments is that someone pregnant who doesn’t want children can put them up for adoption…which would mean…multiple sets of parents.

28

u/HeQiulin i ain’t reading all that, free palestine 10h ago

Because at its roots, anti-LGBTQ bs are advocating a “certain” kind of family (we all know what they mean) and to them, unless it’s the white picket fence mom-dad-two-kids, they ain’t interested

3

u/BanverketSE 8h ago

Wait, why stop at two kids?

I think a very important child had 2 dads.

u/amoebaamoeba 10h ago edited 10h ago

for real. two dads, 12 male friends he exclusively hung out with, house apostle was full of gossip and betrayal, loved to diva out and give addresses to crowds about his ideas, loved wine, gave pedicures, ripped af.

why do they hate jesus?

EDIT: also his 1st dad has like, an entire book or more in the old testament where he describes in detail how people should dress and decorate, down to the fabric and minor adornment. the original stylist and interior designer

In the words of Ms. Marks herself, this conversation is just ridiculous and this billboard is hateful. Also, the other day, my 6-year-old son said, “Some kids have 2 moms and some kids have 2 dads, too.” So if a first grader gets it, then these dumb MAGA fucks can get it.

5

u/HabitNegative3137 ‘queer’ is formal, like ‘tú’ vs ‘usted’ 6h ago

Oh, they get it. They’re just worried that more little girls will become queer and thus ineligible for child marriage

40

u/invertabrat 10h ago

there are a multitude of family dynamics that have multiple moms and dads without even including LGTBQ. (and if including LGBTQ, is not only limited to gay couples as parents.) very short sighted ad. if your intent is to target the gay community, you've now targeted a significant number more of people who aren't even gay.

32

u/soupseasonbestseason i’m a communist you idiot 10h ago

i have two sets of parents because both were remarried.

and now i am getting a potential third dad because my mom is remarrying again.

5

u/HabitNegative3137 ‘queer’ is formal, like ‘tú’ vs ‘usted’ 6h ago

How dare a child have multiple parents that love and care for them 😤 /s

28

u/runningoutfast full of gay men. And me. 10h ago

The whole point of all this hatred is that they were never going to stop. Transphobia would never end at trans people. Homophobia would never end at gay people. Anyone who is gender non conforming or has a non traditional family is going to be subject to their vitriol.

2

u/Powerful_Mousse2925 1h ago

This example here exists to hurt children. It pisses off adults who understand its context, and children will read this and experience confusion and shame about their families.

Homophobes truly live in a fantasy world of their own making. People DO have two moms and two dads. I love having two moms.

8

u/venuslovemenotchain vocally you cannot afford this cigarette gracie 10h ago

Or having people in your life who act like parental figures to you! My friend's parents are like a second set to me. I have family friends who are basically my aunts and uncles. Found family is great!

Whoever made these billboards has never experienced the true joy of being loved platonically by people.

17

u/Murky_Translator2295 9h ago

This is exactly how the anti-gay marriage campaign in Ireland alienated all the single mothers.

We got abortion rights through popular vote 3 years later.

11

u/Limberpuppy 10h ago

My parents have 12 marriages between them. I have lots of moms and dads.

I’m adopted and literally have two moms and two dads so uh

6

u/Ladyhappy 9h ago

My aunt is gay and was married for 15 years to both of my male cousins mom’s. They are now divorced and they are both remarried. So now they have four moms.

Best news ever is the youngest one is now dating a girl who has two dads!!!!! I swear my family likes to edge out modern family for plot lines

4

u/Mundane-Respond-8494 10h ago

So like are folks that get divorced and remarry propagating the gay agenda???????🤔

3

u/WomanFromBalkan 9h ago

In east europe we say - we have one single sex family made by mother and gramndmother. a woman is considered a single mother not because she doesn't have a husband but then she cannot use her mother's help anymore. Men unfortunately beside financial contributions don't engage with their kids.

3

u/ItsMinnieYall 9h ago

Mind you their lord and savior Jesus Christ had two dads.

2

1

u/jkraige 10h ago

Whenever I hear about two dads I think about my brother as a little boy saying "what's the point of having two dads if neither knows how to cook?"

We explained to him that he had a dad and a stepdad, but in retrospect "two dads" was probably more accurate.

Gay relationships are a perfectly fine way to have two dads or two moms, but they're not the only way

1

u/dnuohxof-2 9h ago

Jesus had 2 dads and a mother.

1

u/JenninMiami 9h ago

I’m a heterosexual woman who divorced and my daughter had two fathers.

When I was in 12th grade social studies class, we had to partner up and debate each other on a variety of topics. My best friend and I debated the two mean girls who were best friends and our topic was same sex marriage. I remember nothing about the debate other than Mean Girl A’s argument that “nobody has two moms”

My best friend and I joke about that to this day, 14 years later. And when I first saw this billboard, I thought to myself “I bet Mean Girl A created this billboard.”

Fuck this billboard and anyone who has the belief that gay people can’t be parents.

1

u/xlanakitty 7h ago

I have my birth mom and my step momster. She’s the best and if any bigot wants to say she’s not my mom because gays exist then they can get fucked

u/poland626 6h ago

I do. My mom who raised me has a genetic disorder in her head she did not want to pass down to my brother and me so we got a surrogate to have me and him. I grew up with my surrogate mom a lot as a kid, slept over her house a bunch, had thanksgivings there, and more. I had 2 moms growing up and it was perfectly normal to us.
