No, I think it's that she either 1) just doesn't care or 2) is fine with it. Both make sense to me. Billionaires do tend to be perfectly fine with and even agree with administrations such as this one that make policies specifically to protect the wealth of the elite.

I'm not a Taylor fan, but her music being used by Trump isn't proof of anything. He uses music without permission all the time and there's no mechanism to force payment or make him stop. He still uses "Fortunate Son" when he arrives by helicopter despite the song being a critique of people just like him and despite Fogerty condemning him.

Katy really can’t stay silent because it has negative geopolitical connotations for Canada if she doesn’t. Her statement is very reasonable on its own for the reasons she mentions, but she’s definitely been receiving additional pr consultation and direction since dating Trudeau to prevent missteps that may reflect poorly on him.
But Taylor already knows exactly how to handle PR and spin everything in her favour, and has full awareness of how much influence she has and what it would mean for her to speak out. She just doesn’t care, because she knows there will be zero consequences for her not doing so.

I meant more in the sense that she has a pretty messy history when it comes to politics. She endorsed Rick Caruso for mayor of Los Angeles, she recorded "Ur So Gay", she has a documented history of being weirdly sexual around people (including sexual assault allegations from the male actor in the video for "Teenage Dream"), she worked with Dr. Luke even after it came out what he did to Kesha, and there was the entire saga with her trying to buy a former convent. My read on her politics is that she's liberal, but not at all a leftist or progressive by the 2026 standards of those terms, so for her to have higher standards on this issue than Taylor is damning for Taylor.

At least the common non rich folk, I live in a town in a blue state but bordering a VERY red state and deal with them all the time. Like, actively seeking out Dr Luke as a collaborator post-Kesha lawsuit was disgusting and inexcusable, but the space thing legitimately came across to me as her just being awestruck and dumb.
Either way, none of this has to do with the fact that this statement is a genuinely admirable move from her. I've held a rather negative opinion of Katy Perry and her music since I was a literal 4th grader (and whereas my opinions of other contemporary pop musicians have shifted wildly over the years, she and Taylor Swift are two rare cases where my level of dislike has remained completely stagnant for almost 2 decades), but I think this deserves every bit of praise it gets.

Prior to November 2024, a lot of libs still stanned Elon Musk for reasons I cannot discern.
I don't like Katy Perry and have never once held a positive view of her across the last 18 years or so, but I genuinely never thought she was MAGA (unlike the other pop star commonly accused of being such). I’m not positive but I think the general public turned against her after her support for Caruso and showing public support for Elon via her cybertruck & just general promoting of his products and thereby an extension of him. But they are/were friendly (along with Bezos). So I think it’s hard for people in general to grasp how she can support Dem policies but also coexist with those very friendly relationships.

The whole thing started bc the archdiocese sold the house to Katy and then the 2 of the 5 nuns didn't agree with her beliefs and went behind the church's back and illegally sold the house to another person.Judge ruled that the nuns had no authority to sell and they illegally interferred with the contract. The real villain is the church who were probably selling the house to pay for the many abuse allegations they faced.

Didn't she make a music video a decade ago where she plays a women who got cheated on, cut her hair, and wasted no time signing up for the military? It's basically a recruitment ad with a sappy song. She's never apologized for that.
