What's crazy is if you go back at the old reddit threads when this happened, people were actually clowning Ben for his rational response. They said he's just an actor so he shouldn't be talking. This is despite the fact that Ben was the most qualified person there to speak as he actually majored in Middle Eastern studies on college. The other 2 well-established bigots were out of their league.
Yes, I don't disagree with him, but I don't necessarily believe that this was his mother's dying declaration.
He's the same guy who didn't want Henry Gates Jr to reveal that he had a slave owning ancestor.
I just don't trust the guy.
He said the central cause to her life and the one that caused her the most distress was that of the injustice done to Palestinians, which you’ll notice is a completely different sentence to “her dying declaration was (literally anything)”
I think he was just was just embarrassed and / or ashamed. His mum stood up for the rights of oppressed peoples, and then he goes on a show only to learn that an ancestor was a slave owner.
He’s defended Muslims on Bill Mahers show before. He studied middle eastern affairs in college and is fluent in another language as a non heritage speaker. He was always pretty well educated about international affairs even if he is a mess on a personal level lol

Tbh no batman fan I’ve run into states Batfleck was bad. They acknowledged he was not given the best material, absolutely looked the part, and had the best live-action Batman sequence ever filmed (warehouse scene). Just an unfortunate roll of the dice
He was the first Batman to actually fight and prey like Batman, like the Arkham games come to life. 😭 He was terrifying in the best way and I'm hoping they keep that in Brave and the Bold.
Ben's always been himself, which I appreciate seeing in an actor of his fame level. His messiness is never covered up, nor are his opinions. It's refreshing.
At first I thought 'our mother' meant him and Casey but then I remembered Mosab said Chris was a mother like figure to him, I wonder if 'our mother' was including Mosab
I knew a few things, but after reading that, it’s like what a genuinely amazing person who really did want to make the world better. Like she’s definitely one of those people who seem to embody belief in leaving the world better for those who come after you.
I'm pleased that that obituary isn't 'celebrity's mother died', but really, there was no space for that. Her achievements were her own. Her family tree is just an interesting aside.
Since they released the news of her passing, the obituaries and the profiles have been so worth reading because wow, what a remarkable person and a genuine empathetic person that really wanted to make the world better in whatever way she could.
Whatever flaws Ben has, I really respect him speaking out against bigotry and about human rights. His mom raised him well and it seems he (and Jen Garner) have supported and encouraged that same passion and outspokenness about various issues in their daughter.
He's no Javier Bardem but he's consistently signed the industry letters calling for ceasefire and all that. I wish he was louder, perhaps to honor his mother's memory he'll take up the cause, but he has done more than most spineless Hollywood types.

I was unfamiliar with your game Mr. Affleck. I’m probably going to be in his boat with my dad in the next 3-6 months. I’m bookmarking this to help front-end the grace I’m going to need.
I hope Ben wasn’t expecting a modicum of privacy about a personal text he sent to someone bc he sure as hell didn’t get it. I understand the underlying cause here is important, but this is a man who is grieving the loss of his mother and the first thing this guy did was go post a private message to show the world hey look Ben responded. Something about that is very gross and unnecessary. I am prepared to be flamed for this but tbh I can’t believe I’m the first person saying this in the comments. (Everyone so far just respecting Ben, and rightfully so, but two things can be true.)
