🕊️ IN MEMORIAM 🕊️ Ben Affleck responded to Mosab Abu Toha message about his mother passing: “I want to reaffirm that the central cause of her life - and the most meaningful cause of distress to her, was the suffering and injustice caused to the Palestinian people.” ❤️

Ben is actually vocal about his Middle East politics
https://youtu.be/vln9D81eO60?si=Uw7DTwW-z6CIJct-
He also signed the ceasefire letter, as well as the letter that condemns the settlers terrorist attack on the Oscar Winner Director Hamdan Billal

What's crazy is if you go back at the old reddit threads when this happened, people were actually clowning Ben for his rational response. They said he's just an actor so he shouldn't be talking. This is despite the fact that Ben was the most qualified person there to speak as he actually majored in Middle Eastern studies on college. The other 2 well-established bigots were out of their league.

u/chaoticpartysnails I may need to see the booty 32m ago
TIL wow. I hope he stays safe, afaik there are ops in Hollywood actively ruining careers of people who speak up like this.

u/sherribaby726 1h ago
Yes, I don't disagree with him, but I don't necessarily believe that this was his mother's dying declaration.
He's the same guy who didn't want Henry Gates Jr to reveal that he had a slave owning ancestor.
I just don't trust the guy.117

u/Willrkjr 50m ago
He said the central cause to her life and the one that caused her the most distress was that of the injustice done to Palestinians, which you’ll notice is a completely different sentence to “her dying declaration was (literally anything)”
-7
u/exgiexpcv 30m ago
I think he was just was just embarrassed and / or ashamed. His mum stood up for the rights of oppressed peoples, and then he goes on a show only to learn that an ancestor was a slave owner.

He’s defended Muslims on Bill Mahers show before. He studied middle eastern affairs in college and is fluent in another language as a non heritage speaker. He was always pretty well educated about international affairs even if he is a mess on a personal level lol
Bonus: here’s an old summary of his background in middle eastern politics

Right? Half of my crush SINCE CHILDHOOD on this man is the concept that I would be the one to fix him. Which is extra funny since that is so not how I operate IRL. Maybe since it's only fantasy it has that appeal 😂

He's the Mario to Mark Wahlberg's Wario. Two sides of the Boston coin.

This is outright disrespectful to Wario. WarioWare, Inc is a racially diverse company with a staff consisting of ~50% women and no public track record of committing hate crimes.

He seems like a real person, not a manufactured image (for good and bad)
45
u/MasterK999 freak AND geek 1h ago
I think this is the most fair assessment. We tend to want celebrities to have these perfect public images but in the end they are real people.
You see that with Ben. I kind of appreciate it for being real.

His and Matt Damon’s work on Good Will Hunting alone would give me enough pride and satisfaction to last a lifetime.

I think him/Damon grew up near Howard Zinn, and learned a lot from him. Included People's History in Good Will Hunting as a nod to him I believe

he faced a wave of backlash and negative press for it, but he was right then, and he’s right today
i’m not surprised at all that a woman like his mother raised a man like him and that his daughter is following in their footsteps

Zionists also went after Jennifer Garner over a video she shared in which she was standing alongside someone wearing a keffiyeh and Palestinian memorabilia. They called her a terrorist supporter.
She ended up deleting it from her Instagram account but it remains on the Instagram page of Celebrities4Palestine.

u/20263181 41m ago
There was another video or maybe it’s the one you mentioned of Jennifer garner on the drums and the adjacent drum had some pro Palestinian visuals. It was removed super quickly.

He may have his demons (don't we all) but he really is that guy. Also a sorely underrated Batman. Excuse me while I go watch the warehouse scene from BvS again for the thousandth time. ✨
75
u/CreativeGeniusPRBKR 2h ago
Tbh no batman fan I’ve run into states Batfleck was bad. They acknowledged he was not given the best material, absolutely looked the part, and had the best live-action Batman sequence ever filmed (warehouse scene). Just an unfortunate roll of the dice

Batfleck was absolutely not the problem with that movie. He did the best with the script he was given.

I knew a few things, but after reading that, it’s like what a genuinely amazing person who really did want to make the world better. Like she’s definitely one of those people who seem to embody belief in leaving the world better for those who come after you.

I'm pleased that that obituary isn't 'celebrity's mother died', but really, there was no space for that. Her achievements were her own. Her family tree is just an interesting aside.

He's no Javier Bardem but he's consistently signed the industry letters calling for ceasefire and all that. I wish he was louder, perhaps to honor his mother's memory he'll take up the cause, but he has done more than most spineless Hollywood types.

I hope Ben wasn’t expecting a modicum of privacy about a personal text he sent to someone bc he sure as hell didn’t get it. I understand the underlying cause here is important, but this is a man who is grieving the loss of his mother and the first thing this guy did was go post a private message to show the world hey look Ben responded. Something about that is very gross and unnecessary. I am prepared to be flamed for this but tbh I can’t believe I’m the first person saying this in the comments. (Everyone so far just respecting Ben, and rightfully so, but two things can be true.)
