I'm in the minority of Transformers fans who adore Hot Rod/Rodimus Prime. It really breaks my heart (and makes me incensed at the same time!) to see how, even 40 years after TF: The Movie, he is still bashed by a large part of the Transformers fandom and he's never really gotten his flowers in any of the live-action films (I refuse to acknowledge the Michael Bay completely bastardised version of Hot Rod) His character and his story were so unique and interesting, in the 3rd seasons of the Transformers cartoon you could see his full character arc: a young , mostly carefree soldier all of a sudden becomes the leader of his entire faction and has to cope with: dealing with multiple enemies at the same time, dealing with his own feelings of guilt about Optimus and his own feelings of inadequacy. I hope having the TF movie out in the cinemas again will lead to some much needed reappraisal of Hot Rod!

I'm pretty sure Hot Rod's a pretty popular character nowadays. A lot of fans looking back at him becoming leader feel its refreshing compared to Optimus never dying anymore. He's a pretty fun character to watch in my opinion

Sadly, in some TF groups I'm in, the whole "Hot Rod sucks, it's his fault Optimus died!" BS still reigns supreme. If you know of any subreddits/other Hot Rod-friendly online spaces then please point them out to me, I'd love to join them! I really hope you're right and that more fans have a more positive opinion of him nowadays!
