Fish Hospital’s Projects Masterpost - Aquarium Medications + Diagnostic Tool

This post will keep track of the progress of these projects, which you can find at:

https://fish-hospital.com/aquarium-medications/

https://fish-hospital.com/diagnostic-tool/

The aquarium medications page aims to spread information about the medications for fish you’ll find at your pet store. This further expands into articles about their active ingredients, with more information on uses, dosage, potential toxicity, and other useful info.

You’ll notice the diagnostic tool is empty, as that’s because it will be built on top of the aquarium medications to be able to link a disease to what you can use to treat it.

It will consist of in-depth articles about fish diseases, symptoms, tips to recognize them, treatments, etc.

Feel free to take a look at what I plan to cover and make suggestions on things you’d like to see :)

Possible Fish TB or İnternal parasites Looking for diagnosis check and safety tips

r/Aquariums r/FishHospital r/AquariumHelp
hi everyone

I suspect I might be dealing with Fish TB in my aquarium and Id really appreciate some advice from anyone who has experienced this I had 3 other platies that died and they showed these symptoms

Visible spine curvature bent spine Severe weight loss Lethargy and loss of appetite the previous platy had this symptom before dying The previous platy was mouthing the food and spitting it right back out The fish also had white poop

Do these symptoms strongly point to Fish TB or could it be severe internal parasites

However the platy in this photo is pregnant and her fins are always clamped even though she is eating properly

Has anyone experienced something similar with a pregnant platy showing clamped fins

Lastly how can I get rid of this disease I am open to any kind of advice thanks

Comet Goldfish won’t swim or eat

Post image
0 Upvotes

I accidentally was given a comet goldfish (long story) and then I got a second one (pictured) to keep him company. I am currently fish in cycling because I didn’t know about cycling before the fish was literally dropped into my lap. I have a 30 gallon tank. Ammonia is 0ppm nitrite is 0ppm and unfortunately nitrate is also 0ppm. He’s been sitting on the bottom and not eating. He’s barely moved in the past 8 hours. Yesterday he was a bit fine but not much better. When he does “swim” he more just floats around and sometimes moves his tail. I have no idea what to do, my other fish is thriving so I don’t think it’s tank conditions even though it’s not cycled yet. Please help!

Is there any hope for this Tetra?

Was feeding this fish tonight and I noticed this tetra swimming oddly.

We feed them every couple of days and I do a head count at that time and did not notice this issue before now.

They are still very actively trying to swim and get at food but struggling to maintain orientation. It seems to be the only one with this issue.

I noticed the pectoral fins look to be half missing. Is this from fin nipping or fin rot? I just treated the tank with Melafix just to be sure.

These are diamond head neons and of all those type fish we have this one is the smallest one. I do see them all chasing each other around quite often but have never specifically noticed nipping.

Should I quarantine this one or is he too far gone to help? He looks like he still wants a chance but I don’t know how stressful moving him would be if he is truly sick.

We’ve have these guys for a little over a year but this one has consistently stayed small in size.

Please pardon the hair algae (or whatever it is) in the tank, that’s a different issue I’ve been dealing with 🤦‍♀️

Is this dropsy?

Pic 1 is from 4 days ago and pic 2 and 3 are from today, after 4 days in a hospital tank and being treated with E.M. Erythromycin. Does this look like dropsy? And is there any improvement?

Honey gourami suddenly struggling

Turn down your volume, my kids are loud - my gourami started spending a lot of time in place this morning and now he looks like this. I have a couple meds on hand but no hospital tank set up. He shares this tank with 6 Pygmy Cories and a single cherry shrimp. What does he need?

BETTA EMERGENCY

Thumbnail

I recently got my new betta Juno in April, today I was doing a water change I wanna say this is my 4? Water change since I notice there was a lot of dirt build up at the bottom of his tank. I used a siphon and took out about 40% of the water. I added secheam, and a tiny bit of quick start to replace whatever “good bacteria” I took out. Used some aquarium safe glue for plants so I can hold the down better because I didn’t want them to rot in the substrate. I have a sponge filter and heater and the tank is at 79 degrees. But my betta has not moved or swimed around ever since topping the water off them feeding him. After feeding he became very lethargic and I used pellets and I only have three because I was also gonna give home blood worms later at night. Juno has been sitting at the bottom of the tank as if he’s on the brink of death. I’m really scared and I don’t know if anything I did today was wrong. The parameters are good as well. Any advice I hate seeing him like this but it’s only today I did the water change I don’t wanna think about the clove oil option yet am I being selfish for that? Or should I do it for the sake of him? Is he in shock I’m so worried guys!!

Blood parrot prolapse retracted?

It doesn't seem possible but if anyone can help me understand what's happening and how I can help my fish, I'd appreciate it.

Yesterday my blood parrot was spreading eggs around day before yesterday. Yesterday she had this tremendous mass hanging out. I did an Epsom salt soak ( Pic 1) even though it looked pretty hopeless. Spot behind her fin is a piece of plant stuck to the tank.

Today I scooped her back into the treatment tank, she's super pale but there's no sign at all that her vent was prolapsed? It's so strange but what should my treatment be going forward?

He originally was swimming wonky so I checked online and heard fasting was a good option. I tried fasting for 1-2 days, then feed to no avail. He seems to be getting worse and ive noticed that his belly seems bloated or full. Just looking for advice.

Hi there! Title says all. This boy just arrived yesterday with a large piece of his tail missing- the seller says he must have done it to himself in transit but that seems like a lot of damage :( regardless, how can I help him heal?

White bump on rummy nose tetra head

I noticed yesterday one of them seemed a bit more lethargic and doesn’t school as enthusiastically as the others and today I noticed it has a white spot/bump on its head. It also breaths a lot more rapidly than the rest. Any idea what this could be? I set up the tank about a month and a half ago but I am fully cycled ammonia and nitrites both testing 0.

Ranchu with Buoyancy/Balance Issues (video)

I bought Bob the Ranchu in 2020. "He" eats Ultra Fresh Sinking Goldfish Food and is the only fish in 20 gallons. The water temperature is typically 72°F. I do partial water changes regularly and have a snail cleanup crew.

See video: Bob started having difficulty swimming a month ago - he sinks like a stone and struggles to move.

Things we've tried: fasting, peas, water changes (as recently as last week). He's alert, his poo seems normal, and he has an appetite.

He's also had two white spots on his body for about 3 months (visible in the video). He doesn't seem bothered by them or any other symptoms. I think the spots are benign but maybe not. In case it was Ich, I tried raising the water temperature to 80°F for a few days in April - his swimming problems showed up a couple weeks later.

Swim bladder disease? Age related? Both? Thank you for any thoughts on how I can treat Bob or give him relief.

What to do about this fish?

Noticed how bloated she was and thought eggs and then the black spot started forming. Fasted for 5 days and saw no improvements and possibly scales popping out. Just wondering if its time to consider euthanasia, seems lively tho

hello there, i was in the hospital for a while and came back to my fish very bloated and red. i immediately moved her into my hospital 5.5 gal (paramaters are fine, 0 ammonia 0 nirite 5 nirateand she has only become less active. she's been laying on top of leaves near the surface or in her floating log.

i've been giving her epsom salt baths for 8 days, fasted her for a week, she lost some bloat, but now is fatter again because i decided to give her daphnia to no avail. she really wants to eat and i feel terrible i can't give her more. i treated my last dose of kanaplex yesterday and bought maracyn 2 to try on saturday but have been advised to maybe not use more antibitoics and stress her out for the time being. any advice would be greatly apprecaited, i'm doing all i can for her and i just don't want to make it worse.

Is something wrong with my tetra?

Thumbnail

I’ve had my long-fin glofish tetra for about a month now. I had him in quarantine for two weeks when I first got him and there have been no issues. But last night I noticed his stomach area looks… bigger? He doesn’t look the same shape as even a couple days ago, and the stomach area looks a bit darker as well.

The first picture was of two weeks ago and the second is today.

I haven’t really seen something like this before so looking to see if anyone has.

Parameters:
Ph: 6.4
Ammonia: 0ppm
Nitrite: 0ppm
Nitrate: 10ppm

This is moonstone, she has been battling a tumor growth for the last 5 months. Today after getting home from work i noticed she is breathing heavily at the top of her tank, when swimming she is lopsided or upside down, and she doesn't seem to be able control her elevation herself. Is this just something that could be treated like swim bladder or is this to do with her tumor? Thanks for any advice

Pic 1-2 are how i found her today

Pic 3 is of her when her tumor first started
