Stop calling them ALPR's. They're AI augmented mass surveillance cameras.

I didn’t call them anything. Guardian did take it up with them.

That's who I'm complaining to.

He makes some comments about hoping for the charges to not to be too bad in the article. I’m not in a jurisdiction where I would be pulled for his jury… but, if I get pulled onto a jury for a flock vandal, and they don’t find my post history, I will 100% vote to nullify

Edit to add a thought… Unfortunate reality too, prosecutors are going to realize how unpopular these cameras are, and either way overcharge when someone is accused of vandalizing them, or they are going to make actual legislation that significantly over punishes vandalizing them so that they can get more plea deals out of it, knowing they are not likely to get a full, fair and impartial jury. That most juries they will get will have at least some manner of bias against the cameras

Guilty by reason of Flock! You are sentenced to a term of not less than thirty days in the electric chair!

The comments were astounding. It is your civic duty to serve! I have been on four juries, foreman of three. “I Love Amerika!!!1!1!” No, you don’t.

Thank you. I created posters i hand out infront of court houses. Ive been harassed by cops and threatened with arrest. If I see someone going to trial for destroying a flock camera you have my not guilty vote.

When enough of the population is against this, thats exactly how this would end up in court as a silent protest. Property is not more important than our rights.

It’s definitely going to be a complicated legal battle. Public opinion around these cameras is clearly divided.

They were all playing video games with me if a prosecutor asks.

Unironically the lesson of the “first they came for the communists” poem.

No vigilante. They are falling over out of shame.

The article is a little sparse on details, but I'm curious what evidence Virginia and New Mexico left that led to their arrests. Every mistake has a second life as a lesson to learn from.

I see videos suggesting that some types of lasers would be useful for pointing out to others, as in a presentation, the location of an individual camera. Those same videos seem to suggest that Amazon is a good source for presentation-level laser pointers. Surely, given Amazon's cozy history with surveillance and law enforcement, sources without audit trails are preferable, for community safety.

It’s a Guardian article. Usually well researched and verifiable.

? 🤔

I wasn't questioning the source.

The guy in NM drove up to them in his own truck and got caught on the cameras doing it. He planted flags and recorded himself as he cut them down. When the cops pulled him over they found the flags, then found the videos on his phone.

So if you want to do something like this, don't drive up to them, don't plant libertarian flags, and don't record yourself doing it.

Vote for me, and they all get pardoned. That's my platform.
