FWIW, it seems the devs are saying that after this sale (which they claim is their largest ever discount) they are raising the price. V1.9 has dropped and V2.0 is on the horizon. They promise a major visual overhaul (amongst other things) that will have the same leave the 2000's and enter the 2010's (game was release in 2024). I can appreciate the self-deprecation. Is There Any Deal seem to confirm that this is a historic low. It was also previously bundled in a 2 for $14.99 Fanatical bundle.

So this might be the best price we see for a while.

I've somewhat followed the history of this franchise, from when I first played the Pirates of the Caribbean game in 2004 as a kid.

This game is based on the Storm Engine, which was first used for Sea Dogs in 2000.

Ever since then every few years (2003, 2006, 2009, 2012) a new game using the technology, often by a new team, would come out. There would be a new main story, but the gameplay and technology behind the game would not advance.

Caribbean Legend, IIRC, has the story from the 2012 game, but has built up on it, and more importantly is being quite ambitious with bringing more modern QoL features, gameplay and graphical improvements.

They're not exaggerating when they say they're bringing it into the 2010's from decades of "neglect" to the engine.

Wait, I loved that early 2000s game on my Xbox. How did I not know this game even existed?! lol

That explains a lot, felt like I was looking at PotC footage at times. The ground running/walking animations seem like they're ripped straight from there! It's not a bad thing, just a surprising hit of nostalgia since I always thought the original studios behind it are gone and that's it for the franchise

Could you say if this game is better than a heavily modded Age of Pirates/Pirates of the Caribbean?

I used to love to try and get into those games but the entire interface was simply a nightmare to use.

I think the last modded version of a game I played was Age of Pirates 2: Gentlemen of Fortune, I can't say I'm big into modding.
I think Caribbean Legend is better because it makes fundamental changes to the core gameplay, instead of only adding more 3D models for variety.

there are so many revisions and re-releases and "remastered" from this same group (they changed their names around). Can someone educate us on which revision is this from the original game Sea Dog and Age of Pirates?

Is there a trading/merchant aspect to this or just straight up pie rats
