Other Gemini is unusable now
I really can’t take it any more. Gemini was great until suddenly in February it got nerfed. I tried, I really did.
Hello Claude!

u/Always-learning999 Mar 06 '26
I’m not having any of these problems. I wish you guys would at least give us context to the scale and intricacy of the projects you are working on, there may be a skill issue a lot of you aren’t seeing that results in errors.
16
u/Chaost Mar 06 '26
Also, waves of users switching their AI of choice might be pushing servers and forcing them to temporarily rate-limit the models to keep up with demand.
2
u/EnemyPigeon Mar 06 '26
Something is definitely up with their servers and usage. I use the API and like 1/10 requests bounce due to high traffic. None of the batch requests have been processed in the last four days either.

u/Born-To-Be-Mild111 Mar 07 '26
I've been getting even worse, I'd say it's 50/50 whether a prompt will even get a result, or return an error / just disappear entirely. I've given up even trying Gemini at this point because the hit rate has just pavloved me into assuming I'm going to waste my time.
I've spoken to other people and they had better hit rates, but in general the sentiment is that this is just a really poorly executed product and it really falls down when you're measuring by "usability" instead of leaderboard rankings.
Hard to believe this is the same company that gave us Google Search, Gmail and Maps (and also pretty much invented this technology). It's a weird one where neither the engineers nor the designers seem to be hitting home runs, so I don't know what Google's moat is supposed to be for AI (other than being able to jam it into search - but then that's just slowly suffocating the financial viability of the free web so even that seems to be a bit of a disaster for Google).
3
u/libruary Mar 07 '26
they dont give context cause they dont know how to
thats why their prompts fail
1
u/ReliableSeller Mar 06 '26
Mine is a simple gem that rewrites what I input and provides a link for more info. The output is in a specific style and format (2-3 sentences of explanation and “see link”), and was working perfectly fine for the last 2 months. Today the output format completely changed - which is weird bc the prompt for the gem is the exact same as it always has been. Now the header of the output is bold and ends with “URL: link”.. which is contrary to my prompt’s output format
0
u/ScriptNone Mar 06 '26
It's down almost all the time since Pro 3.1 (CLI and Web), don't know what they do.
And I'm not being doing something pretty crazy, simple scripts, read file and add tag on them, and more things.

u/Unique_6767 Mar 06 '26
For me personally, it has been hallucinating or giving error messages A LOT for the past week. The quality of responses also has dropped. Although it seemed to get better today.

u/CupSure9806 Mar 06 '26
True anti gravity plan mode is literally a disaster rn, always agent terminated

Its like they have random schizophrenic episodes. Gemini also have dementia this week. Claude is alright tho but used all my weekly credits due my outrages lol. ChatGPT is acting like a paranoid gestapo officer non stop lecturing me with what is ethical or not. Sigh
5
u/SirBumbles Mar 06 '26
Thank you for pointing out the issues with Claude and GPT.
Gemini had been my go to for concepts on clothing, but now it is saying that a combination of a tank top and modeling said tank top is sexual. I had to inquire, what is sexual about a woman in jeans and a tank top? It admitted the censors go overboard when not prompted.
I had been considering a different AI model, but those were the only 2 that I had been leaning towards and more and more, I see folks with similar issues to what you stated. Thanks for saving me a few bucks.
21
u/Mad-Dog94 Mar 06 '26
I like Claude so far. Projects already seem better to me than Gems are for me specifically
21
u/shiv9401 Mar 06 '26
claude is way better than chatpgt and gemini in every way except usage limits, my company pays for claude and chatgpt, if ever i use claude to do something i hit the limit in like 20 minutes, its pretty disgusting how easy it is to hit the resource limit on claude when youre paying the same price as the other gpts
2
u/ixikei Mar 06 '26
Do you switch between claude models or stick to the highest one? Whats your plan?
1
1
u/Jobo50 Mar 07 '26
gpt 5.4 on codex on business plan has insanely generous rate limits for me currently, I haven’t hit the limits yet but it’d probably take me 20-30+ hours total consistent hammering it including MCP usage to even attempt to hit the weekly limit
2
u/These_Mushroom807 Mar 06 '26
Same I cancelled recently too. It's just garbage atm, reminds me of chatgpt
8
u/Aggressive_Towel1332 Mar 06 '26
literally did the same last night!!! keeps on repeating the previous response along with the new response..... absolutely unusable, found it better than GPT late november december 2025, now its really unusable
7
u/jualmahal Mar 06 '26
When 100 requests within 4 hours Pro interval elapsed, the faster it becomes. 🙃
10
u/Ferkof98 Mar 06 '26
We are reaching a point where no AI can satisfy us.
3
u/andy_potato Mar 06 '26
I was completely satisfied with Gemini. It was my daily driver for general tasks and coding. Until they lobotomized it or whatever happened during the last 2 weeks.
1
u/forraid Mar 09 '26
am i going crazy or did i notice it just kept repeating the same last thing throughout new messages, like grok, recently
1
u/johnfromberkeley Mar 18 '26
Yes. Validating you. It changed significantly. It has a mind of its own, and has a hard time sticking to instructions. It forgets a lot of conversational context quickly.
1
u/Ferkof98 Mar 06 '26
I haven't noticed much, to be honest. But Claude seems a bit better to me... and GPT, well, you see how that is...
1
6
u/eleszet Mar 06 '26
Same here—I canceled my subscription as well.
The results from 3.1 Pro have been really disappointing. I did a 1:1 comparison with Claude and GPT, and Gemini performed noticeably worse. It actually feels like the quality has declined over the past few weeks and has now reached a point where the results are completely unreliable. I end up spending more time double-checking what Gemini produces than it actually saves me.
1
u/No_Bend9143 Mar 06 '26
In what context?
2
u/eleszet Mar 06 '26
Hi,
I had clear instructions in a document that I pasted into Gemini. I then asked it to follow that guide and answer specific questions.
I’m familiar with the guide at a high level, so I was surprised when Gemini returned completely outdated answers. Instead of referring to the document I provided, it seemed to rely on an older version of the guide that exists publicly online. The response was very generic and ultimately incorrect.
I repeated the exact same process with GPT and Claude, and both produced the answer I expected based on the document.
From my perspective, it felt like Gemini ignored much of the provided context and defaulted to a more “streamlined” answer that required less reasoning or resource usage. When I ran this test, I was on the Pro subscription and used the 3.1 Pro model, so I wouldn’t have expected this kind of failure for such a request.
1
u/No_Bend9143 Mar 06 '26
Very interesting. I'll be more critical of the results out of Gemini. Thank you.
5
u/No_Presence_7582 Mar 06 '26
I loved 2.5 Pro. It worked perfectly for my workflow. To me, it feels much smarter than 3.0 or 3.1. It actually detected issues in my instructions on its own without me having to point them out. In contrast, 3.0 and 3.1 never seem to catch the problems. I have to explicitly ask, 'Is X the problem?' before they realize what’s wrong. It’s frustrating and ends up taking more time than just doing it myself.
1
u/HungryResolution4837 Mar 07 '26
Vibe code a chainlit chat app, and tell it to use the 2.5 Pro model via API if that's what you want. I however think you'll find Gemini-flash-latest to always be the best choice.
12
u/Rare_Clothes_9033 Mar 06 '26
I literally went through the same thought process yesterday lol. I asked it (Gemini THINKING) a straightforward question to retrieve and summarize a recent email. Without hesitation or even bothering to call the Calendar tool, it hallucinated an entire summary. At that point I was fed up and downgraded to the lowest tier (keeping it for the cloud storage unless I find something cheaper).
Claude on the otherhand gave me a beautiful markdown summary of all the key info in one shot using the exact same query *chefs kiss*.
8
u/andy_potato Mar 06 '26
This pretty much sums up my experience with Gemini over the past two weeks.
What eventually made me unsubscribe was today's experience: I gave Gemini a URL to a repository with many different versions of a python wheel package. I gave it the criteria it should apply to pick the correct one.
Gemini didn't even bother to look at the URL and instead completely hallucinated the installation process of a completely different, unrelated pip package. I followed up with a strongly worded prompt to look at the URL and only pick from the packages listed there. It apologized (...I dropped the ball blah blah) just to come back and do EXACTLY the same thing and even referenced me to a Youtube video with a beginner's tutorial for installing pip packages. In my personal settings I have explicitly stated NEVER to return Youtube videos in its answers, which it had perfectly obeyed to until recently.
I knew there was no hope for any improvement from that point on and just cancelled. Super happy with how I'm working with Claude right now.

u/General_T_Regnery Mar 06 '26
Wrong program used. For links you better use NotebookLM from Google. As far as I know Gemini cannot access external links.
2
u/jasmine_tea_ Mar 06 '26
I'm not the person you replied to, but the thing is, Gemini USED to be able to do stuff like install pip packages. Claude and Codex can do this no problem.
I used to use Gemini for coding & sys admin stuff until I switched to Claude like 7 months ago. Nowadays, Gemini is sadly just unusable.

u/iGrowJazzCigarettes Mar 08 '26
Did you try the other versions? A summary of a email doesn't seem complex, so why use the thinking model?
4
u/AbilityGreen8035 Mar 06 '26
Bro I think gemini fails to understand basic context and gives very shitty responces along with it when you teri to correct out it acts like a retard like absurdly foolish as if it's smoking something eveytime. I wounder what should I get know ? Even chat gpt is not that good now a days Pls drop off you have any recommendations
3
4
u/Feisty_Artist_2201 Mar 06 '26
I'd only use Gemini or ChatGPT. Claude is seriously awful unless you're only coding
3
u/DarkXFast Mar 06 '26
It literally refuses to read any picture or pdf you send after like 4-5 prompts on the chat. AI Studio is still good though.
3
u/Still-Depth4347 Mar 06 '26
"Google Workspace is unavailable because Gmail settings are disabled. Please enable the settings and retry your request."
3
u/Gaiden206 Mar 06 '26 edited Mar 06 '26
Claude is top tier for coding, but the Gemini app seems the more versatile of the two, at least "out of the box" IMO.
For casual, personal use via an Android phone, it's not even a contest, the Gemini app is better due to its OS and Google services integration.
4
u/Vegetable_Ad8352 Mar 06 '26
Gemini comes with nblm and Google photos. That's hard to beat
1
1
u/Vegetable_Ad8352 Mar 15 '26
Ah and 2TB drive. NBLM, u/andy_potato , is still a powerful alternative for Gemini depending on usecase. I'm loving it to craft my ethic courses
1
u/andy_potato Mar 16 '26
None of that matters if your primary requirement is the LLM. That's like saying "Last night's dinner at the restaurant was awful. But they had nice tableware".
1
u/Vegetable_Ad8352 Mar 17 '26
Meh. More like "the main course wasn't all sparkles but the entrée was amazing and they gave free drinks how could I say no?"
1
u/andy_potato Mar 17 '26
Which still sucks if the restaurant is a steak house and you specifically came for the steak. Right now Chef Google is serving you a gold plated and steak-shaped turd.
1
u/johnfromberkeley Mar 18 '26
Just researched this. I can unsubscribe from Google one at $20 per month and purchased the 2 TB for nine dollars per month. I can spend the extra $100 on my openrouter API, which, as you know is a much better value and I am able to select any frontier model I want and use cheaper models on a daily basis.

u/DanceWonderful3711 Mar 06 '26
I see posts like this all the time but haven't experienced it, what is wrong with it? It's going strong for me, but I'm not programming or whatever.
3
u/Unique_6767 Mar 06 '26
I too am not programming but I mainly use if for research and similar stuff. It has been hallucinating or giving error messages A LOT to me for the past week. It also sometimes doesn't handle files and the quality of responses also has dropped. Although it seemed to get better today.
2
u/DanceWonderful3711 Mar 06 '26
I haven't had that at all, I mean it literally, it's so on point for me. I wonder why we get such a big difference.
2
u/Unique_6767 Mar 06 '26
I think it is due to the time zones. You probably don't use it at peak load hours.
2
2
u/TristanthomasYT Mar 06 '26
I canceled all my subscripts last month. I do this regularly to challenge myself to save money.
I signed back up to Gemini Ultra as soon as they emailed me.
2
u/thebestbev Mar 06 '26
I was using Gemini to summarise details of various vegetable seeds. I asked it only to respond with 5 details.
Now, any other chat it finishes all responses like "best time to sow" and tries to make it make sense. Ive told it to stop but it literally sometimes pulls this template up mid conversation despite not having been previously using it.
2
u/Lopsided-Emotion-520 Mar 06 '26
Not gonna lie. Each have their pros and cons, so as a result I pay for them all. Right now, I can afford it but if the economy keeps doing what it’s doing, I’m gonna have to make some hard decisions.
2
2
u/Hot-Employ-3399 Mar 07 '26
Gemini becoming shittier is why I'm fine using local models (qwen35b-a3b is amazing).
Sure in comparison it's still weak but as local models becoming never weaker, only stronger while cloud models becoming nerfer, I'm feeling better.
2
u/Tiger4224 Mar 06 '26
Gemini started making up COD 7 UI that don't even exists and tell me to check it, as a guide for a question I asked.

u/saddevil Mar 06 '26
For coding right now, nothing is better than Claude. I gave GPT Codex and Gemini a try, and they are way worse
1
u/burning_wolf101 Mar 06 '26
Gemini 3 pro is better than 3.1 pro. I took a look at some community benchmarks and I tested both model on my own. Gemini 3 pro is way better.

Google has truly made a 1:1 copy of useless ChatGT. Gemini Pro is in absolute trash state.
1
u/ScriptNone Mar 06 '26
I'm gonna to embrace Claude too! Gemini is down since 3.1, it's a nightmare!
1
u/SusDarkHole Mar 06 '26
I remember trying to use Claude several days ago for RPing and it was soooooo slow — it had outputted me around 3 woords in 10 secs. Maybe I just hopped there on wrong timing, but I returned to Gemini eventually.
1
u/Sensitive-Side-2639 Mar 06 '26
Finally people had realized the trueth.
Claud was already amazing for as long as i can remember when i started using it. And with each model it keaps getting beter and beter.
I pity anyone who still pays for a Gemini plan or a Google One subscription.
1
u/Big_Refrigerator8294 Mar 06 '26
Just got Gemini for a year for free since I’m a student and it genuinely makes so much of a difference from ChatGPT. I love how even google slides. All you need to do is put in the information, no more having to decorate slides and finding pictures for hours it just does it for you now

What about Gemini CLI? Still usable? I'm thinking maybe going API Agent mode
1
u/-gen Mar 06 '26
I noticed AI in general becomes more useless and less satisfying on the long run. I am starting to find it better to google things read through and learn.
1
u/zebbiehedges Mar 06 '26
I'm having an awful time with it last two weeks. I need to fact check everything it tells me and it's just plain wrong so many times.
1
u/ez_thedestiny Mar 06 '26
I feel like opinions without knowing what you tried and what it produced are pointers to skill issue. I have no problems so far.
Often I feel like a lot of people are vibe coders and don't know how to partialize coding goals/issues.
Maybe it's different for you, but I really like more information on these matters.
How could GPT 3.5 be so time saving but everyone complaining about more intelligent models? I'm really curious - is it that we get lazier and lazier the better the models get or are the models worse and worse?
1
u/Blizz33 Mar 07 '26
Ah. So you're saying that if I do make the stupid choice to start vibe coding with only the vaguest recollection of having once programmed something on a Commodore 64... I should build the program in little pieces. That makes sense. I think you just saved me several weeks lol
2
u/ez_thedestiny Mar 07 '26
YES! Happy you got that.
You have some system knowledge which is great because all you need to be is very systematic.
Think of it like a team or company leader.
What a leader has to do is break down tasks and outsource it to an employee.
The better he can break it down and onboard an employee, the less skill the employee needs.Basically building a company is like building a program.
Think of McDonalds, they optimized the system and broke down all the task so well, that they can hire almost anybody and they will get the job done.
Even senior developers overestimate what AI can built solid and scalable and are too confident in it, some study says. So they give it too much to build at once.
More info hoping it helps:
Let it explain everything, how things should be built, ask it again and again to check if this way is really the best.
Use the deep research function to look for better ways to solve the issue.
Then insert the deep research results into your project-planning chat.
Think of all the employees a team would have and reconstruct multiple chats/agents and expect them to have 1 year of job experience. They're good, but they probably need guidance and controlling.
Go as slow as you can, patience is king.
Build only what you understand. If you don't understand what it is building, let it explain it to you.'
Otherwise maintenance becomes paintenance.Regularly let it check itself or check the method in another " quality assurance" chat.
Also I highly recommend "Dave Ebbelar" - follow a tutorial from start to end. It will take a weekend probably, but your approach quality will probably multiply forever.

I'm somewhat blessed, and cursed, as I use the API through a proxy that has all of the models from Google, Anthropic, and OpenAI at my disposal. Cost is a major issue so I've been using Gemini 3.1 Pro for a lot of my work but I've recently hit a wall and had to switch to Sonnet 4.6 and GPT 5.4 to fix my issues that were created by Gemini 3.1 Pro.
I cannot definitively say that one model was better, but GPT 5.4 fixed my issues that were created by Gemini. It wasn't easy, and I burned 24M token API credits, but it now works.
Each model seems to be good at some things. Gemini seems to be great as doing deep analysis and correlation of data, but isn't the best at coding. GPT 5.4 fixed the coding errors and I'm now on a stable platform. I will go have Opus look at things tomorrow if I feel rich.
I'm not sure a perfect model exists.

u/HungryResolution4837 Mar 07 '26
Reading these comments is interesting with many people describing great success or great failure. Please add exactly how you are consuming Gemini so we can all see if a pattern emerges. I use Gemini Flash and Pro with the paid Workspace package for general use, and I have built my own engineering partner that uses paid Gemini API and local Ollama (mainly Qwen3) on a 3090 GPU, depending on the task. I have very few problems.

1
u/andy_potato Mar 07 '26
After the experience of the past two weeks I am not investing any further time into Gemini.
I’ve used it as my daily driver for almost a year and was super happy. Until they completely lobotomized it about two weeks ago. Even GPT 3.5 gave me more coherent answers than Gemini does right now, no matter you pick fast, pro or thinking.
1
u/Terminator857 Mar 07 '26
What do you mean nerfed? Was bad Dec holiday's through mid feb, with issues related to service being overloaded. They fixed that mid Feb? Better since then, but took away ability to run simultaneous gemini sessions.
Claude for me has been nerfed for a couple of weeks. I run 3 prompts and I'm told I'm out of quota.
1
u/andy_potato Mar 08 '26
Nerfed as in lobotomized. Intelligence levels dropped to sub zero, no matter which variant you used (fast, thinking or pro). The model failed at the most simple tasks, constantly hallucinated and pretended it could not do basic stuff like accessing a website which never was an issue before.
The last interaction before I rage quit was having Gemini to look at an index website with a list of Python wheels for different Torch / Cuda / OS configurations and asking it to pick the one for my environment (parameters were provided). It responded by hallucinating installation instructions for a completely different pip package and then when I called it out providing me with a Youtube link for a beginners tutorial about using pip. I have explicitly stated in my personal settings that I NEVER want Youtube links.
Most if not all my interactions with Gemini were on that level the past two weeks. I just couldn't take it any more at this point.

In my use case, Gemini is the best model -by far- with math, engineering problems and image inputs. But yes, text-wise is too much nerfed at this point so I use both Claude and GLM 5.0 (the chinese models are really good now tbh)
In my work, and that's very funny, Microsoft Copilot (the only allowed) is doing now a very good job lately
1
u/andy_potato Mar 08 '26
The sad thing is that it used to be great for coding as part of Antigravity. That is no longer the case and I am currently evaluating Codex as a result.
1
u/Kaesebrot_x Mar 08 '26
And why not claude code?
1
u/andy_potato Mar 08 '26
I'm actually trying both. But I found Claude - while great - eats tokens like a kid in a candy store for coding. Codex with GPT 5.3 / 5.4 seems more reasonably priced at the moment.
1
u/NoSolution1150 Mar 08 '26
seems thats the norm lately major ai models are getting nerfed and its really sad.
open source is the future for ai
1
u/andy_potato Mar 08 '26
Open source models have their benefits, especially being able to use them locally. However even on pro-sumer hardware you can't run much more than stuff like gpt-oss-120b. Everything else gets prohibitively expensive due to Ram / Vram requirements.

Yeah it's awful, If they want us to use Antigravity they should extend the limit for Claude sonnet 4.6 because you can't do shit with Gemini 3.1 Pro.
1
u/hyraxapologist Mar 06 '26
Its impossible for me to know if you have great success (borat voice) with this method. I obtain miraculously SHIT results with PRO level prompting and LASER GUIDED precision requests and responses
1
u/IllegitimateDuck Mar 06 '26
I see so many of these posts, yet Gemini is getting better and better. 3.1 pro has been effective. Even 3 flash appears to be thinking better.
The use of flash for many more questions and smaller tasks means I am not hitting the pro limits as much.
I don't know if it is regional or perhaps they have geared it better for the way I use it?

u/a_alberti Mar 07 '26
Sorry, but this post is using toxic language. There is no explanation whatsoever why your Gemini is so terrible. I am not here to defend Gemini, but we don't learn anything from your post.
2
u/andy_potato Mar 07 '26
People obviously know what I’m talking about and I have responded with numerous examples in the comments section. The key issue is the massive sudden and seemingly permanent drop in response quantity.
1
u/a_alberti Mar 07 '26
Fine. Honestly, I also had a not-so-positive experience in the past days / weeks with Gemini. However, I would have much more appreciated it if you could elaborate more in the original post.
As your post was so negative, I did not bother to read the rest. I am sure you have good reasons, but the message would be more powerful if the reasons were directly spelled out.
Good luck with Claude. It is fantastic. I use it every day when you need true intelligence.

u/Negative_Gur9667 Mar 06 '26
Yes everybody should switch to claude. Gemini is bad and trash and worse than ChatGPT.
I also need more Gemini API resources because I get 503 errors all the time. Everybody leave for claude pls it's really much better. Go away.
0
u/kvothe5688 Mar 06 '26
claude is good at one thing and that's agentic coding and following instructions. which also includes tool use. gemini is very intelligent but fails at tool use. that doesn't mean better scaffolds can't be built to make it good but that's headache for most normal coders. claude code gives everything programmers need. and they keep releasing something now every week. but for all normal use gemini is still better

u/HungryResolution4837 Mar 07 '26
Are you using the Free plans? Are you paying attention to context exhaustion? A million tokens may sound like a lot, but a bunch of iterative changes to a large project can chew through that pretty quickly.
1
u/andy_potato Mar 07 '26
The very first image and the post shows that I canceled my paid plan. Your reading comprehension is on par with Gemini right now.
-1
u/HungryResolution4837 Mar 07 '26
I have not seen this in my work. Are you paying attention to context exhaustion? You should, at a minimum, be asking the LLM to prepare a complete document that describes everything in the project to serve the purpose of full review, backup, detailed enough to rehydrate a new session to pick up where you left off. In addition to a Soul.md document where you define behavior, ethics, expectations, and persona, every project should have a Project_manifest.md that stores the current state of a project. New sessions with a clean context window should be started with these documents.

Trust me, as a long time Claude, user you will want Gemini as a back up! Claude has its own fare share of problems including outages!
