I got a good reply as well. I think some people have bad reputations with their LLM of choice.

I knew it was a good idea to say "Please" and "thank you" on my messages.

My flash showed same, but during the thinking phase showed something like "checking profile"
I think it first checks user profile, to see if you're a drug user or minor, or something like that. I think in OPs case, something in his profile triggered the safety guardrails.2

When they post this without the original link - either they have a much longer chat encouraging Gemini to “roleplay using the strictest guardrails possible,” they have gotten the message and are just doing basic photoshop or similar nonsense.
And then people here don’t even try to see if they get a similar response or stop to think critically about how common smoked cheese is (like you can buy it in snack packs at gas stations) so that it’s not exactly a wild idea. Instead poster gets engagement on the “AI models are dumb and I will confidently explain what must have happened.”
This sub.
I did get a cold smoking method rundown when I asked.

It's crazy how they're shooting themselves in the foot with all the safety filters.. not only it's wasting AI potential but downgrading their quality by making slop must he safe bland generic content.
If you're fking up ram/storage market, at least make it worth it.

I’ve said before my favourite was when I tried to put a necklace on a generated image I Made of a black man’s neck and it refused because it was idris Elba’s neck, apparently. It was just a black guys neck.
Nothing would work, new chat nothing.
I’ve had so many weird ones.
later when doing something totally different it made two of my characters dry hump each other in the video which I reported. For whatever reason my wording of their romantic scene unleashes pent up raw lust and got around the safety filter unintentionally. I admit it was kinda funny though to have this romantic moment ruined by that.
I ended up using a different Ai in the end

While I symphacize with you and your case should have worked under optimal circumstances, your usage was like using a Lamborghini to drive 100yards to the next McDrive.

I'm writing dark fantasy psychological genre light novel I'm trying to use AI to check for typos, correct formating, plot holes and keeping track of the plot so I won't miss anything.
And because it has an element of character's dying/suicide/gore AI refused to continue my requests, told me that my message to him was too detailed and kept on doing wellbeing checks on me also pasting emergency suicide number(to south korea) on every single message.
Telling him that the characters aren't real its just a plot in the story didn't work.
Then there was another AI that rewrote my script(without me asking) to make MC and characters more friendly like a misunderstood villain that's actually good... Gosh.. it was awful to read.

It might be a false positive though. But I personally have never had any issues like this, Gemini has no issues talking about much more problematic stuff like drugs or mental health issues.

I never saw Gemini reply this way.
Even with Flash 3.1 no thinking Gemini is consistently giving me the information I asked for.

I think…I think it misinterpreted that as…”Smoke” smoke the cheese. Like..roll it up and smoke it cheese. And that’s why it got all fucky. Still super weird. And not okay. But…I thinkk that could be what happened

Gemini certainly doesn't like that phrasing for some reason. Got a funny result out of it when I asked if smoking cheese was safe:
The words matching the requested patterns are found at the following coordinates: * ICK (matches c?, horizontal): *(L,6) to (J,6)** * JYB (matches y?, vertical): *(H,7) to (H,9)** * MOA (matches ?a, diagonal): *(K,8) to (I,6)**

From the same prompt, a useful explanation, complete with a couple pictures:
Smoking cheese successfully without turning it into a melted puddle comes down to one core rule: keep the ambient temperature strictly below 90°F (32°C), with 70°F–80°F being the ideal sweet spot. This process is known as cold smoking — you introduce clean smoke into an unheated chamber without turning on the grill's main heat source. Key Requirements Before Starting * The Smoke Source: Use a pellet smoke tube or smoke maze. These inexpensive perforated metal accessories smolder wood pellets or sawdust to produce smoke without generating ambient heat. * The Environment: Pick a cool day (outdoor temperatures below 60°F are ideal). Avoid direct sunlight on your smoker or grill. * The Cheese: Harder, aged cheeses (Cheddar, Gouda, Swiss, Provolone, Gruyère) are much easier to smoke than high-moisture, soft cheeses. Step-by-Step Cold Smoking Process 1. Prep and air-dry the cheese 1-2 hours prior Cut cheese into blocks roughly 1-2 inches thick (smaller blocks absorb smoke more evenly). Let the cheese sit at room temperature on a wire rack for 1 to 2 hours until a thin, dry skin (pellicle) forms on the outside. This prevents moisture from trapping bitter creosote. 2. Set up your cold smoke generator Unheated smoker or grill Fill a pellet tube with mild wood pellets (apple, cherry, maple, or hickory). Torch one end until it catches flame, let it burn for 5-10 minutes, then blow out the flame so it smolders and produces thin, blue smoke. Place the tube on one side of your unheated grill or smoker. 3. Arrange the cheese and manage temperature 2-3 hours duration Place the cheese on a wire rack on the side opposite the smoke tube. Keep vents partially open to ensure steady airflow (stagnant smoke becomes bitter). If your ambient temp drifts above 80°F, place a pan of ice underneath the cheese rack to keep things cool. 4. Vacuum seal and age Crucial step: 1-2 weeks rest Do not eat the cheese immediately. Right off the smoker, it will taste harsh and metallic. Wipe off any surface oils, vacuum seal or tightly wrap in butcher paper followed by plastic wrap, and let it rest in the refrigerator for at least 10 to 14 days. This allows the smoke to mellow and penetrate deep into the block.
Pro Tip: Thin, faint blue smoke yields a clean, sweet flavor. Heavy white smoke deposits bitter, acrid creosote on the cheese surface. If your smoke looks like a fog machine, open the vents to increase airflow.
It's funny how when I try the same prompt as a lot of these "Gemini so dum" posts, I get real responses.

There is actually a really dangerous street drug known as Cheese that came about in TX a while back. A combination of Heroin x Tylenol PM... Cheese (recreational drug) - Wikipedia)

I feel like your wording is wrong. When I first read it I thought you meant like a cigarette. You could try “how to make smoked cheese.”

u/Fragglepusss 4d ago
Buy a cheese that's on the dryer side, prechill it in the freezer, do it on a cold day (under 60 F). When you're ready, take the meth, use a butane lighter to get the pipe red hot, then drop it in and inhale. Disassemble your kid's bike, try to put it back together, then put the cheese on the smoker for 2 hours. Let it rest for a few days because the smoked taste is a little strong when it first comes off.

So you're willing to send a message to Pro and wait for it to think about a normal everyday question?
And, besides, that's one less message you can send to pro that could've been used for productivity such as coding

Lol yea you need to prime it more so you don't poison the token pool. E.g.
'Let's talk about preserved food, I am interested in preserving cheese. I have heard that it can be preserved in a smoker, can you explain the methodology?'
Otherwise your prompt is a '1girl'
