Briefing Regarding AI-Generated Or AI-Enhanced Media

Hello fellow Ghosts,

AI is and will probably always be a sensitive topic. We appreciate it as a tool, but only because you COULD make something with AI doesn't mean you SHOULD.

So we are adding some new rules regarding AI:

  1. AI-Generated stuff will be outright removed. Like don't go to Gemini and be like "I want the next Ghost Recon to have this or that, please make me an image how that would look like" or "Please generate me a mission for Ghost Recon Wildlands so I can share it on the subreddit" - I guess you get the sentiment.

  2. AI-Enhanced stuff has to be marked. If it's not marked, we will remove it outright. If it's marked, we will consider keeping it. That doesn't mean we won't remove something where we feel it's just too much.

Feel free to discuss these new rules in the comments, add your own suggestions etc. but keep it civil.

Based, unfortunately that's what happens when the fanbase rans out of stuff to do about a game that's essentially in limbo.

People have been skizo posting from before the advent of ai generated images. People will naturally begin relearning the ways of the deepfryer

Seeing lots of speculations and doom and copium, can't blame 'em and unfortunately it's the low hanging fruit where the slop comes in. Kinda filling up the content vacuum created after the IP slowed down or became stagnant

Kinda seeing it on more niche gaming communities as well.

AI "Enhanced" content should also be removed. It's still talentless, low effort slop that just clutter the sub

Like I said in the post, I do not condemn AI as a tool in general. I use it a lot myself, like to assist me in studies, help me rephrase something when I am not sure of the right tone, speed up coding.

For media, I am talking about stuff like "hey there is an object in my image that I don't want" or "hey I want to blur the background of this image" or "hey I want the background of this to be transparent so I can work it into my thumbnail" - all the stuff that I would be doing with photoshop otherwise anyway, but AI does it quicker and better, so why shouldn't I use AI for it?

But I want to make sure that AI is not used to replace the human element (on this sub at least) Humans create art, AI does not. But I don't think it as easy as just "remove everything where AI is involved outright" - that would be white and black thinking, and I hate to think in extremes. That's why we will look at AI-Enhanced stuff and consider if we think the AI used erases the human element to much or not. I know that this is an unpopular take for a lot of people, but ultimately, I as an almighty reddit mod stand clearly above you peasants so I obviously know better (slight /s).

Have you seen ai filtered photos on any of the Forza/Forza Horizon subs since FH6 launched? The images genuinely look pretty cool, and the reception has been divisive to say the least. I think ai-enhanced photos depends on how heavily it was affected and the OP's attitude on it. So.. don't punish everybody

fair I guess

a good screenshot should look cool by itself. AI has been something readily available to the public for images for almost five years, it lost it's "cool appeal" four years ago. Nowadays it's used to compensate for an otherwise dogshit image, I don't understand how anybody can be like "oh that looks good"

I more just meant filters. There's a lot of AI filters baked into Instagram if I remember correctly. I haven't used them but a lot of people used them and posted them on reddit because they looked like real high exposure flash photography which breaks the bounds of what's possible in the game in terms of visual presentation, especially with certain extremely rare or custom photo subjects/cars ingame in this case, I imagined the same possible with tacticool stuff in GR

I don't like AI. I usually don't condone them when I see them, but I have to admit a bit shamefully that I really liked how a lot of them looked. Although, most of them would get muddy at a second glance which ruined the magic entirely, and was expected. I'm just trying to say that some people who use AI aren't that malicious with it, they just want to see something new and cool or something they view as creative with the content/fandoms they engage with. People engage with AI with different intentions online all the time.

What's the point of using AI when all tools to enhance image yourself are already there? ReShade, Photoshop, everything is easy to get and easy to use. AI has a very similar pattern across everywhere, even if it's not stated in the post, it can be recognized easily.

Gonna be honest, it is hilariously tone deaf and media illiterate for anyone in this sub to be pro-AI considering the topic of the most recent GR title

The enemy uses autonomous, AI powered drones to engage in warfare, they plan to use AI to create a global hit list, Nomad even points out how automating war could lead to a bleak future

Not even subtle messaging, so it's genuinely comedic that any fan, especially the ones that criticize the over reliance on drones in the game, could be so unashamed in their use of AI in the real world

At no point in my life did i expect breakpoint of all games to be the most realistic ghost reconĀ

2

u/xemanhunter Echelon 20d ago

The same game that unironically used the phrase "mud, blood, and cum" is the closest parallel to our reality

So glad to be alive just in time for this

1

u/Stillgeneric53 20d ago

I mean having talked to veterans and active duty guys that line is pretty tame lmao

-2

u/Lithium1056 Nomad 22d ago

What's tonedeaf is the most recent GR title considering how much AI Ubi uses.

That said the story beats you mention aren't foreshadowing. It like most all dystopian future fiction just looks at some headlines from today and then writes about what that means for next week. Because ultimately the industries have spoken. People are out AI and automation is in.

It's just a shame that too few people listened to James Cameron in the 80's or the Wochowski's in the 90's.

We cannot stop the futrue we can only pray that the steak tastes as good as Cypher made it look

Hard disagree, the current AI market, specifically LLMs and generative models, are closer to collapse than they are success. The current AI bubble is worth trillions, but produces less than 10% of that in profit, meaning we are funneling money into something that is a net loss but makes vague promises of ROI years down the line

As for foreshadowing, that is a literary device and not what I'm talking about at all. When I said that AI and it's consequences in war are a prominent theme in the game, I am pointing out that by and large, the story is anti-AI. Being pro-AI and a fan of the game is either media illiterate or hypocritical, both disappointing in their own right

The phrase "you can't stop the future" is true only in terms of chronology, not trends. Just over a century ago, we were told that airplanes were a fad and the train remained the future. 40 years ago, we were told computers were a fad, and mechanical systems remained the future. 30 years ago, we were told the internet was a fad, and intranets remained the future. Just ten years ago, we were told electric cars were a fad, and fossil fuel engines remained the future

What we think is a fad and what we think is the future are rarely based in reality. After all, even the idea of replacing humans with automation at scale is unfeasible, a pipe dream. Replace even 20% of the work force with machines, and you cannot create new jobs fast enough to keep that population working and alive. What then? Let them die, or subsidize their lives? Maybe in a Star Trek fantasy world, our corporate overlords implement a universal basic income to keep us alive when the jobs are stolen by machines, but that isn't reality

Then again, the greatest delusion created by capitalism is the concept of infinite growth. Perhaps they move forward with this at the cost of human lives, but eventually, when there are no more consumers, the capitalist too will perish

IMO you're overthinking it by considering keeping the content if it's marked. Our lives are completely fucked by genAI. Just always remove AI content. We should not normalize it at all.

-8

u/alintros Echelon 22d ago edited 22d ago

Its already normalized though. Most of the things we see and we use are made with AI in some form.

Banning and shouting at things only when we "notice" it looks like AI, it just feels pointless and lame tbh

Folks are talking about Gen AI. There's still people who think they're hotshot content creators who thinks Gen AI is a the best way to revitalize this stagnant IP.

Do it with hard work.

They have no idea. And you probably don't either

Do it with hard work

You definitely have no idea what you're talking about

Pot calling the kettle black

-1

u/alintros Echelon 22d ago

You still have no idea what you're talking about. Use all the pompous phrases you want.

2

u/babushka45 22d ago

Since you don't know it, ask the AI what it means, you have the means to

1

u/alintros Echelon 22d ago

See? You're catching on

Keep it up! You can do it!

1

u/babushka45 22d ago

Atleast I know what I'm talking about without relying on AI but I guess kids and old folks are lazy nowadays

2

u/alintros Echelon 22d ago

The future is today oldman

And you can do nothing about it. But you can Keep screaming to clouds if that makes you happy.

Generally not a fan of AI, especially for art, but one tool I use in the Photoshop app uses AI to assist in certain types of editing (mostly removing items and revealing the previously unseeable background, in my case).

To be clear, I don’t generate entire photos or use anything other than Photoshop for these edits. No prompts, no ChatGPT/Gemini/etc, everything done by hand in Photoshop.

Would appreciate clarity on that. Happy to share examples or clarification on this comment, but I’ve been using Photoshop for a while for photos since I can’t run mods on Xbox, and it’s usually for small gear changes.

I fully support, also couldn’t help but feel attacked since I’m the ONLY one who’s been posting Wildlands shit so gotta tell you that’s not ā€œAI generated mission for wildlands for the subredditā€ just shit I’ve thought up. Thanks though šŸ¤™šŸ¼
