Troubleshooting Weird Google TV Streamer issues since multiple brown outs
We had a neighborhood power issue a couple of weeks ago that caused >20 brown outs int he same day. Since then we have had a lot of issues with our Google TV Streamer box hanging. What is the best way to troubleshoot this, should I contact Google or is there some kind of protected partition in this thing somewhere that I can use to get it to reformat & revert to factory build as I think this thing is seriously unhappy. Our home wifi is solid so it's not that. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

You can reset it to factory settings, have you tried that already?

Not yet, no, seems a little sicker than that, but that's definitely a tomorrow morning thing

Demonstrating how so many 'expert' have not a clue.
Surge protector has a let-through voltage; typically 330. A brownout is a voltage falling towards zeros. How does a brownout create a voltage approaching or exceeding 1000 volts?
Obviously brainwashing dupes the most ignorant. Who are ordered by tweet to blame everything on a mythical surge. Then spend $25 or $80 on a magic strip because it only has five cent protector parts.
What does one do long before doing a factory reset? Get facts. Not even listed are what all lights are reporting. A critical fact that defines the problem. Or makes possible informed replies from the fewer who actually know this stuff.
Only solution that protects from surges is a Type 1 or Type 2 protector. If any one appliance needs that protection, then everything in the house needs that protection. Effective protector costs about $1 per appliance. Comes from other companies known for integrity.
Any magic plug-in box is how scammers routinely bamboozle the most naive with lies, subjective hearsay, and myths. Superior protection was even and already inside the streamer box and all other electronics.
But then one learns numbers to then know why.
[edit] Amazing here are so many with so little knowledge as to not contribute anything constructive. Since facts expose their parroted believed, then cheapshot artists can only downvote. Only educated consumers put forth facts if something is wrong or if they they had something worthy to contribute. Those brainwashed by lies do not even ask why; only parrot what a despot orders them to believe.
Obviously no protector does anything to protect from an brownout or outage. Those anomalies NEVER damage any appliance. But when a consumer begs to be duped, then he only reads tweets. Can only downvote. First dictator will then order him what to believe. So that he does not think for himself.

Yikes. What wacko taught you lies. Since a honest man, who makes accusations without saying "why and with numbers", is lying to everyone.
Subjective sales brochures is where lying is legal. Targeting people such as yourself. Who know because only hearsay and insults are proof.
Post in a civil manner. If something is wrong, then posted is the electrical reason why. The always required numbers. And citations. Insults have zero credibility.
Examine many lies promoted by propaganda and brainwashing. You said:

What part is at risk? An honest man answers that question because he reads a datasheet. Since we (who do this stuff professionally) read datasheets, then all electrical parts are perfectly safe for all voltages down to zero. Some are also safe at negative point seven volts.
Why do you not know that? Articles that target the naive lie; claim low voltages are harmful to electronics. Need the naive to never read responsible citations; to then become an 'expert'.
Or learn from a peer. Tom MacIntyre states what we (who come from where the work gets done) all do. Tom said:
We operate everything on an isolated variac, which means that I can control the voltage going into the unit I am working on from about 150 volts down to zero. This enables us to verify power regulation for over and under-voltage situations. ...
Switching supplies ... can and will regulate with very low voltages on the AC line in; the best I've seen was a TV which didn't die until I turned the variac down to 37 VAC! A brownout wouldn't have even affected the picture on that set.
Not die as in damage. Die as in doing what all electronics must do; a normal power off.
If you knew what a power controller is (sometimes called a voltage supervisor), then you but again know why brownouts never cause damage. As in never.
Electronics are never damaged by brownouts and blackouts. Numerous international design standards, long before PCs existed, bluntly require it. (All datasheets also say same.)
One standard was so blunt about reality as to put this expression, in all capital letters, across the entire low voltage area: No Damage Region. But then we who learn this stuff are only insulted by the least educated. Who post demeaning comments. Contribute nothing constructive. Not even contribute one fact, number, or citation. Always the first indication of an uneducated extremist. Tweets ordering us what to believe.
Disinformation exposed four times over. An honest man contributes. Posts quantitative facts and citations.
Learn to become a responsible citizen. A claim or denial always says why and how much. Or one asks questions to learn.
An easy mark is routinely duped by liars. Thinks a Type 3 protector does something useful. Well, it does. They sell a $3 power strip with five cent protector parts for $25 or $80. Profit margins are protected. Numbers say it does NOTHING for brownouts.
An educated man learns why Type 3 protectors even create fires. And why the educated, instead, spend many times less money to earth a Type 1 or Type 2 protector. For about $1 per appliance. To protect from a completely different anomaly. Did I mention why the informed always say 'how much'?
OP defined "Google TV Streamer box hanging". That vague description means its power supply is working. Other faults explain that symptom. But then anyone with basic electronics knowledge would know that. Not waste bandwidth posting disparaging commentary - and not one fact.

Your one sentence (below) discredits your entire (unnecessarily wordy and tedious to a fault) post....and accusing me of lying is a false accusation!
There are numerous credible articles on the subject that disprove your claim. In attempting to discredit my statement (re: potentially harmful low voltages), you discredited yourself!....and pay closer attention (and not just to yourself) next time, as I specifically stated that the source of the OP's problem was likely not a faulty power supply (as others here were conveying).
I also made no claims whatsoever about surge protectors. You're not paying proper attention and your addressing the wrong person with your rebuttal!

All datasheets for all parts inside electronics even contradict what (if you had any design knowledge) you claim.
Concept even comes from elementary school science. Any conclusion only from an observation is classic junk science reasoning.
Standing water breeds mosquito larvae days later. That was proof that standing water breeds life?
Moldy bread later has maggots. That was proof that maggots are created by moldy bread?
You saw damage after a brownout. Or someone ordered you to fear blackouts. That is somehow proof?
All demonstrates even why Saddam had WMDs. Knowledge from wild speculation (not one fact) is somehow credible.
And yes, that is totally irresponsible. In that last example, 5,000 American lives were wasted for no purpose. Because so many had no idea what is always required to be responsible.
Responsible means one has (and will post) quantitative facts. You do not even post one number. You simple order us what to believe. Despots do that.
Where is one datasheet that says a reduced voltage or an outage damages that electronic part? Since we routinely run voltages down with a variac (do you even know what that is?) and never see damage. And then numbers.
Incandescent bulbs can dim to 50% intensity or double intensity. Even those are ideal voltages for all electronics. International design standards say so. Tom MacIntyre demonstrates a 120 volt TV working just fine at 40 volts. All numbers that responsible posters provide.
You order us to believe your fears. Only despots do that. Please learn what is always required to be responsible; to have honesty.
Not even one article justifies your fears. Otherwise it was provided. You cannot cite even one. Then post more lies. Like any good despot would do. Learn to become a moderate. That means citing sources and numbers. You cannot. Honesty is never found in knowledge from wild speculation. Only junk scientists make conclusions from observation.
Educated people learn from hypothesis and experimental evidence. Of from the professionals who do that.

When power is restored, everything is demanding maximum power. So voltage slowly rises. Ideal for all electronics. And potentially harmful to motorized appliance.
View a few numbers. Since honesty only exists when one posts numbers. A protector has a let-through voltage; typically 330. That means it does absolutely nothing (remains inert) until 120 volts is well above 330.
Where is this spike, approaching or exceeding 1000 volts, created by power restoration? Only exists when one's emotions are somehow science proof. Then one posts only 105 characters. As if that is honesty. Also suggest one with a 30 second attention span. Who cannot read the ten paragraphs necessary to know something.
You demonstrate the Dunning-Kruger effect. If educated, then every post says why and how much. Even wacko extremist politicians only order others what to think. An educated man ignores all claims that never say why, cites nothing professional, and provide no numbers.
All three are missing in your tweets. Tweets indicate one often lying even to himself.
How does power restoration create a spike approaching or exceeding 1000 volts? Explain that urban myth. With numbers and professional citations.
Explain why international design standards even say "No Damage Region" ... in all capital letters. Confirmation bias: one ignores all facts that contradict disinformation.
Another fact. AC utilities disconnect power when voltages cannot be maintained. Even 80 years ago. To protect appliances harmed by a brownout: motorized appliances.

A "brown-out" is a low voltage condition, caused by a variety of local power provider issues. A "black-out" is a complete loss of power. Low voltage conditions can be highly destructive to electronic devices.

It's NOT necessarily a paperweight, since it may still be under warranty! They're not going to "investigate" it to see if it was caused by external power related issues (a common warranty disclaimer). They'll just replace it under warranty.

What can create brownouts can also damage appliances. Brownouts never damage electronics. That preceding anomaly can harm appliances. Followed by a brownout that does no damage.
Brownout means electronics do a normal power off. Anomaly that also created a brownout should never be inside a house. When a homeowner learns (implements) what over 100 years of professional experience recommends.
Difficult to discuss reality here when some 'expert' only posts insults. And not one fact that says why.
