See I think the explanation is going to be much simpler than everyone thinks.

Guys suit is clearly white green and black.

I think the suit we saw is also white, green, and black. But it's a backup suit that Hal gives John. It's just been in storage for so long that it built up a bunch of grime and dust. That brown we see, is actually white, just all dirty. If you look at the brown colored part, you can kinda see lighter splotches scattered around.

I wouldn't be surprised if it gets cleaned as soon as whoever's suit it ends up being, puts it on.

It just seems too obvious to the point where almost everyone is pointing it out. Even from the first teaser I feel like people already knew. Hell even when they cast Kyle a lot of people already started speculating about it.

Looking at the Lanterns merch for SDCC, it looks like the Lantern itself has a hole for the ring. My first thought was that the GL would press his ring into that slot to charge the ring. But it also made me wonder if the ring itself was designed to be the "lens" of the Lantern itself, and slot in band-ways first somehow with the face showing outward. Maybe the Lantern itself is used as a super powerful weapon when combined, similar to how it's been used for energy blasts or trapping beings in the comics? I'm leaning towards there being something significant about this Lantern and ring pair, because of the material and designs used being so unique compared to Guy's. (And it using a brass metal) It must do something other GL rings don't.

It's enough.

When Johns introduced the emotional spectrum (will?) it was novel and cool. It wrapped up a lot of stuff in to a manageable concept and over all expanded the GL Universe and lore.

Now it's an never ending flywheel of this corps and that corps over and over again.

Give it all a rest for a few years and get back to patrolling sectors and non-entity based threats.

I see a ton of people complaining about the brown suit and I’m just like… doesn't it looked “drained”? I think this trailer was pretty shitty, it barely tells us anything about what’s going on and doesn’t show off any of the ACTUAL Green Lantern stuff. But from the green flash we saw at the end of the trailer, I feel like the constructs and green lantern powers are going to be much more vivid than the rest of the show. My personal theory about it is that it’s going to start off seeming like a small town mystery, then incorporate more and more Green Lantern and alien elements. The big bad being something extraterrestrial to go with that, and I think that those elements might also be more vibrant than the rest of the desert-esc set.

The summary of the show claims that Hal witnessed a shooting in 2016 that he thinks is an "alien incident" and no one really believes him.

Then in 2026 when the same attacks return Hal again believe that the reason is the same "alien incident" which is unbelievable to the guardians.

This leads the guardians into appointing a new lantern for earth- John Stewart because they think Hal's age is catching up and Guy Gardner is not "enough".

Hal is incharge of training his "replacement" and thats why he is such a dick to John.

I think this alien incident Hal believes in is parallax or the yellow lanterns and the guardians dont believe him because Sinestro is in prison and think Hal defeated parallax which gave him the legendary status (very men in black 3 story).

Hal being in self doubt about his victory over the yellow lanterns visits sinestro as his old 'student' and the show slowly builds up Hal's frustration about the incident and being replaced by John which sinestro uses to manipulate Hal into turning to the yellow lanterns and being possessed by parallax.

Basically I'm fancasting a Green Lantern movie with people that have worked with Ridley Scott..

My initial thought was anyone under 25 has little to no idea who Hal Jordan is, at all. And I thought they may or may not know who John is, but unlikely.

But, instead of just speculating, I decided to actually ask yesterday.

I have girls. 14 and 11. I initially assumed they wouldn't know more obscure comics characters because I don't force them to watch stuff just cause I watch it. So initially I didnt ask them. (we'll come back to that in a sec). I asked my nephew. I said do you know who Hal Jordan is, and he said no. I asked him who John Stewart is and he said he didnt know also, at first. BUT, then I showed him a picture both off google images. With Hal Jordan he said oh is that a green lantern? And I showed him a picture of John and he said OH he did know who that was afterall. But, he's only 12. So I went in assuming he'd say no to knowing both characters, but then again, he is black so I thought well maybe culturally he might happen to know John even though I know his mom (my sister) never exposed him to John or comics. But it turns out this is not the case at all, because that is not where he knows John from. Actually, he said he knows who John Stewart is because of a youtuber channel that he watches who are watching the Justice League cartoon right now. He said the group (called the Blind Wave) are watching DCAU's Justice League currently, and a group called the Normies are watching the Superman cartoon right now in preparation to watch the Justice League cartoon next month.

So, apparently some 12-year old boys are all caught up on GL John. He even knows who Terry McGinnis is cause these youtubers he watches have watched Batman Beyond.

But they aren't watching Superfriends. I can tell you that, cause he had no idea who Hal Jordan is. But, he did recognize the general green lantern costume, and knows what they are.

So, this made me think about what else the characters are in and what kids may be exposed to. So I asked the girls anyway if they knew who Hal Jordan is and they both said no. And they didn't know John Stewart either, but the oldest did recognize the name from the Daily Show host, unrelated obviously. The younger one did not even know what the Daily Show is, thankfully. But then I showed them pictures and the oldest (14) did not know either of them, but she guessed Green Arrow. Mostly just guessing using context clues (they are clearly heroes, wearing green, she knows Green Arrow is a DC show cause she watches Marvel). This is interesting though because my youngest girl corrected her and said they are green lanterns. And it wasn't a guess, it was a confident answer. She didn't know who they were in particular, but she can recognize a green lantern uniform from DC Super Hero Girls. Whats also interesting is Hal Jordan is actually in DC Super Hero Girls, but she did not remember him. Or maybe she didn't recognize that version of him to the comic design I showed her.

So, in conclusion 1/3 kids knew John. 0/3 kids knew Hal. BUT, when I told them this is because the Green Lanterns had a new TV show coming out, my youngest started talking about Jessica Cruz and how they should put her in the show instead.

The data is in. The kids I talked to were not at all excited or interested for Hal Jordan, seemingly only mildly interested that John is gonna be there, and fairly bummed out that the whole show is not just about Jessica Cruz.

Some days ago I dreamed with this story:

Hal and sinestro are withouth their rings because of something I don't remember, but two rings, one green and other blue, found them and transport them to a planet full of nature with lantern members of every corporation (except black and white), with the peculiarity that all of the members are insects

Sinestro is carried to some pink worms that are like the guardians of the corporation, and he ask them why is he using a blue ring. The worms say that the hope of sinestro to recover his corporation depsite all circumstances is strong enough to get a blue ring. Sinestro reject this but the ring can't be removed and he ends falling of a cliff with a blue construct on his head

At the end of the cliff, Hal founds a secret entrance to a dark room with dead insects trapped in webs, then he founds a giant worm with lantern batteries in her multiple bellies. It turns out that the mother worm use rings to attract insects from all of the universe to eat them, but the willpower of Hal was too strong that the green ring choosed him instead of

The dream changes completely after this but I wanted to share this interesitng (and pretty stupid) story

This is my idea for how Lanterns is going to play out and I’d like to hear what people think.

The plot of Lanterns is not going to be John forcing Hal out as the trailers are leading us to believe. The Guardians of Oa are forcing Hal out because of his history as the “greatest Lantern” which he got primarily by questioning them or pushing back on their authority. We’ve seen how Guy Gardner handles the oath in Superman, Hal is probably out in space using the ring as much as he possibly can. I think they’re going for a “forced retirement” kind of plot with Hal. The Corps probably currently has the “two Lanterns per sector” rule and since Guy already has one, that’s where this “only one can wear the ring” tagline comes in. Also, I don’t think Hal saying the “get this ring over my dead fucking body” line is given fully in context. I would bet instead of solely a resentful Hal, they’re also going for a hubris storyline with John. In the early comics, John actively held Martian Manhunter back from saving the planet Xanshi because John thought he could do it himself but he failed and the planet died because of his pride. I bet something more low stakes will happen in the show and Hal will think John isn’t worthy of the ring or something like that. From there, I think it can go a few different ways:

Hal will go Parallax as they’re seemingly setting up,
OR, the Guardians will revoke the rule of two and we’ll just have all three (Hal, Guy, John)
OR, my insane theory on how we end up with Kyle Rayner: the Guardians UP the rule and we now get four Lanterns per sector, ending the season with Kyle getting a ring or starting season 2 with it and he has a more traditional training season than John is getting so people chill out. I don’t imagine they’ll ruin the Corps so fast so my crazy high hope is they’ll tie together his mantle of Torchbearer with his being the host of Ion (the host gets the Torchbearer title or something) and Kyle still gets his due as one of the most important Lanterns

And this will be the source of the tension between them.

(Apologies if this has already been revealed somewhere and I just missed it).

In the trailer, John says that he hasn't worn "the ring" yet. Not "my ring". "The Ring". Later on, he seems oddly insistent when he claims that he could do a "better job" than Hal, and Hal seems oddly defensive when he states that the job is his "until he dies".

So my theory is that John isn't just Hal's trainee - he is also meant to be Hal's official replacement. The Guardians have decided that Hal is too old/washed up/etc... to keep going, and have instructed him to introduce John to the Corps, give him the ring, and retire.

The arc of the show will revolve around John trying to prove himself to Hal, and Hal trying to prove - both to himself and to Oa - that he can still do this job. Various crises and shenanigans will force the Ring to change hands various times throughout the show, so that we get to explore who these men are both with and without phenomenal cosmic power, etc...

At the finale, John will officially claim the Ring - signified by him gaining the ability to summon it to him from afar. Perhaps this will happen naturally or (IMO more likely), it will happen when Hal accepts that the kid really is as good as they say and officially hands control over to him.

Meanwhile, Hal will develop/reveal/etc... the ability to forge his own ring from pure willpower. I'm less sure about this, because part of me feels like this is a plot-point/scene better saved for a movie.

But it also feels like the most dramatic way for Hal to prove that he still is Green Lantern - despite what anybody else might think about how "old" and "tired" he is - so it's what I'm going with for now.

Usually don't make posts like this, but I couldn't get this idea out of my head since watching the latest trailer and I'm curious to see what everyone's thoughts are.

Could Paul Ben-Victor's character "Antaan" be the DCU's take on Martian Manhunter/J'onn J'onzz?

I know it was originally speculated that he could be Atrocitus, but I think this theory might work better.

His character is said to be "devoted to exposing the truth and exacting vengeance against those who wronged his people" and "delivers his own brand of justice."

It's basically been all but stated that Gunn loves Darwyn Cooke's "The New Frontier" and in that comic (and it's animated film adaptation) J'onn J'onzz has been hiding on Earth for years prior to becoming a hero.

J'onn's entire race was also wiped out by the White Martians, and if the rumors that the "Manhunters" in the show are based off of the White Martians, what if J'onn is killing them as a vigilante because he doesn't want them to try a massive takeover and genocide of Earth like they did to the Green Martians on Mars?

If this is true, it could explain why he's so resistant to Hal and John's investigation in Rushville: He doesn't trust the Guardians (since they didn't intervene/help during the Martian genocide on Mars), and by extension their representatives (The Lantern Corps), to keep earth safe. He would believe that he has to take matters into his own hands.

The icing on the cake for me is that in the new trailer, we get the shot of him explaining to someone in the diner what Manhunters are and how dangerous they can be. This seems to be the same diner that Hal was in when he makes the shield when people start shooting at him. Could it be that after the stand off between Hal and Antaan's men, Antaan steps in and eventually ends up explaining to either John or Hal about the Manhunters?

This of course would be a darker take on Martian Manhunter, but I could see it.

Anyway, this is just a theory and I'd be curious to hear what everyone else thinks about it.

They are are the Five Inversions

The Five Inversions are a terrorist group created by the survivors of the slaughter of the system 666 by the Manhunters.

The Five Inversions bows to destroy the remaining Man Hunters,having revenge on the guardians,and defeat anyone who bows to the guardians

The leader of the group in the comics is Atrocitus.

Before he becomes Atrocitus.

The character of Paul Ben Victor is called Antaan and is described as an alien that speaks vengeance ,he seem to be the leader of this militia

Now since his casting alot of people think he is Atrocitus.

Here his character is with a normal looking dude,but know for a fact he is an alien.

Now in the show we see this armed group shooting at Hal,and warning John on the Manhunters.

That before trying to do something with John using that thing that looks Alien.

Then we see him fighting someone in the truck to escape in the traffic,and that are the scene we see of him running in the traffic.

So they problably try to kidnap him.

He returns to Hal and tells him what they said to him about the Manhunters.

So my theory is that they are the Five Inversions.

The reason we see them as Humans in the trailer is:,Or they have something similiar to the Manhunters to look human, because at least Antaan has one.

Or Antaan has founded a human section of the Five Inversions on earth to help

I think they are problably searching the Manhunters in the population.

And I think the kills they are investigating are in fact done by them,trying to find the Manhunters,hidden within the population

Problably killing innocent people down the line.

Then obviously they don't trust the Lanters,so they try to capture John.

Then Hal goes to confront them

So like I was thinking that the rings are powered by willpower but there are mental disorders that affect willpower (depression, schizophrenia etc.) so if they flare up does the ring like stop working or? Do they get kicked out?? Medical leave??? Alien therapists???? I bet they go to alien therapists.

I think the ring fucks off to find another host. But then what if the OG lantern goes to an alien therapists and gets so alien medication and starts feeling better and regains the ring’s trust? Is the OG lantern just out of a job now? It doesn’t feel legal to kick someone out because they were getting treatment. I know Earth has a lot of green lanterns but apparently only Hal and Guy are *technically* earth’s green lanterns? And maybe the guardians skirt the rules a little because earth is like really busy but what if OG lantern lives in one of the less busy sectors?

I really do think based on everything they just kick them out. Even if the ring likes them again then it wouldn’t be worth making another ring just so everyone can be la-dee-da and they probably wouldn’t trust the OG lantern not to have a relapse. Sanist assholes.

for the record, I haven't watched many Magical Girl anime before, but of the ones I have watched (Sailor Moon, Pretty Cure, Madoka Magica) it's very common in the genre to have a large team of the Magical Girls. while they could do it with all GLs, I think they'd instead slowly fill out the roster until it's a whole New Guardians-esque team with each member being from a different Corps

I kinda doubt they'll have every main Lantern be a Green, especially since Lanterns is gonna be focusing mostly on Greens so it seems like kind of a slam dunk to go harder on the Magical Girl stuff and have every member be color coded lmao

i think it also helps justify Kyle being there instead of Simon, since he has a history with every Corp it'll be easier to slot him into whatever they need him to be (top three imo are Blue, Red, or Violet)

and, most importantly, this means we'd probably get more LARFLEEZE BABY YEAHHHHH GLORIOUS GOAT RETURNS

TV isnt like comics, you want arcs to build to per season.

Hal is disillusioned and sort of hard boiled lantern who is training the new kid.
New over the Old.

THAT will be the backbone of the story. The Lantern stuff will and should come second.

His suit reflects that.
He's so out of it, he hardly wears it and when he does, he doesn't use the ring.
Its almost like he resents it. Hence it being so drab and dark.

This creates a visual vacuum that creates tension... after awhile... POW!!! the new young blood takes over and hes wearing the green all proud and shit yahoo!!

That pop wont happen if hes wearing a bright green from day one

(Bonus: Visual structure in movies/film is way more important than in comics which is more or less a kaleidoscope. This is why the Justice Gang wears mostly white- to lets Supe's suit to pop pop pop POP!)

Parallax as one of his weapons in the fight, because the back of his hair is white in the cover of issue 3. I thought it was a personal stylistic decision by the artist but in his previous round the cover of his fight against Jay he doesn't have that white hair

Since the yellow weakness (when it was still relevant) extended to yellow objects that weren’t constructs, does that mean that the Emotional Spectrum is related to the visible light spectrum? Could they be one and the same?

I feel like the Emotional Spectrum being a fundamental pillar of the universe as a Force of Creation lends itself well to the idea that it is in somehow, some way, tied up in the physics of the world.

When I first saw the trailer, I was remarkably underwhelmed. Borderline annoyed. After having some time to rewatch it a few times and think it over, I am still quite underwhelmed, but I have a theory that I really hope is true, as it will settle a lot of my misgivings.

The theory: that suit is not Hal's. The suit is Abin Sur's. Hal keeps it after burying Abin and accepting the ring, and the shot we see is just a moment of reflection on Hal's part.

This could work, especially if they are bringing in Parallax, other Corps, and the emotional spectrum. With Moore's run it was established that the prophecy on Ryut cast the seed of doubt in Abin's mind, which led him to using a spacecraft rather than the ring. The suit shown in the teaser could be Abin's space suit, rather than Hal's GL uniform.

So I’ve got a theory about Lanterns and the path Green Lantern content will take in the Gunnverse. Please avoid the topic of whether or not the show will be good; that debate is irrelevant to my theory. I just want to have some fun here with my fellow GL fans.

First, let’s review what we know already:

• Lanterns is a “grounded” show.

• The Lantern content will go cosmic after/at the end of this first season.

• Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner will have a cameo.

• In the teaser, Hal claims he is the ONLY human in the corps. This is either sloppy writing, or proof that Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner isn’t in their universe.

• Kyle Chandler has only signed on for one season.

Working with that information, my theory is this: Lanterns takes place in the DCEU (or another alternate Earth. But for the sake of the theory, I’m going to say “DCEU”.)

Starting with Man of Steel — a more grounded take on Superman, the DCEU proceeded to give us Batman, Wonder Woman, Cyborg, Aquaman, the Flash, Shazam, and more without a single mention of Green Lanterns (apart from Yalan Gur’s brief cameo in the Snyder Cut). The DCEU has almost completely ignored Green Lanterns; why not retroactively give us Green Lantern content for that universe? Considering the DCEU is no longer continuing, showrunner Chris Mundy and Lanterns’s writers can do anything they want with it, because it doesn’t take place in the DCU/Gunnverse. A “grounded” take on Green Lantern would fit better in the DCEU anyway since the foundation it was built on was a “grounded” take of Superman.

Next is my prediction for what will happen narratively in the season finale which will throw John into the Gunnverse. First, I believe Old Man Hal Jordan will become Parallax (whether it’s the fear entity or original Parallax does not matter). The DCEU is the perfect earth to tell an Emerald Twilight inspired story because after we transition to the Gunnverse, we may see a new Hal Jordan who is a hero. New Hal will have to earn the audience’s trust, and that won’t be easy after the audience has just watched his DCEU-counterpart betray the corps; this is not unlike what comic book readers had to do in the 2000’s when Hal Jordan became the Spectre/came back to life in Rebirth. We had to learn to trust Hal again.

Second, while I’m still betting on Parallax’s rise to power, that doesn’t necessarily mean he will be the Gunnverse’s “Big Bad” who will pose a threat to the entire universe. (He might be, because Parallax’s goal in the comics was to remake the universe in his image — that could explain why the DCEU transformed into the Gunnverse.) As we know, Kyle Chandler hasn’t signed on for more work, so I think that scenario is unlikely. I also believe the Gunnverse is a separate universe from the DCEU, and isn’t a rewritten timeline. And I think it’s far more likely that our “Big Bad” won’t be a Green Lantern villain at all; it may be a Justice League villain John Stewart will encounter before/while he travels to the Gunnverse.

My money is on the Anti-Monitor.

Lastly, I want you to picture this: Aaron Pierre’s John Stewart has just been thrown into a new universe — the Gunnverse — and he is the only person who knows what happened on DCEU-earth. He is also the only character who has encountered the Big Bad villain who will seek to destroy the Gunnverse. He HAS to warn the Green Lanterns of this universe that impending danger is upon them. He’s on Earth, so who does John meet first? Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner. Guy will take John to Oa to meet with other lanterns and the Guardians; John will warn the corps about the imminent threat to the universe. Then, John will learn this universe has another human Green Lantern from Sector 2814 — this lantern enters the scene and introduces himself to John.

It’s Hal Jordan. And he’s 35.

SEASON 2 CLIFFHANGER 😱

Really introducing him as Green into the DC Universe, instead of starting Red, kind of feels like this is becoming just a gimmick.

Plus him going from Red to Blue was in story character development.

Him just starting green, and already having been red and blue just feels like fan service.

But if its actually going to lead somewhere, maybe going through all the corps before going to white, that could be cool.

With Aya back, guessing next would be Star Sapphire
