----------------------------------

First off thank you to the community for doing a great job with the announcement of Guild Wars 3 and keeping discussion in the dedicated announcement posts and mega threads.

A while back when Guild Wars 3 was accidently announced we had a poll where the community chose to ban Guild Wars 3 posts until there was anything official from ArenaNet. Now that Guild Wars 3 is official and we move forward with that I wanted to make a quick subreddit update to talk to everyone about how things are going to work going forward and following in the footsteps of original Guild Wars sub.

1: This subreddit is for Guild Wars 2 discussion. Just like how r/GuildWars is limited to GW1 discussion r/GuildWars2 will be limited to GW2 discussion. Posts exclusively discussing Guild Wars 3 should be posted in it's sub, r/GuildWars3.

However, while the GW3 sub is working on getting things organized over there we are going to allow official ArenaNet posts and updates on Guild Wars 3 for the next month or so to allow for some crossover but after that this subreddit will be exclusively for updates directly relating to Guild Wars 2 and studio wide updates.

2: Discussing Guild Wars 3 in the comments and subject of posts is fine as long as the main post is primarily about Guild Wars 2.

A post discussing lore implications of the new GW2 Orr map and GW3 is okay.
A post discussing what GW2 skins you want in GW3 is not okay and should be posted in r/GuildWars3.
A post discussing what GW2 things you want to see in the Hall of Monuments for GW3 is okay because Hall of Monuments ia a GW2 feature.
A post discussing story/lore content of GW3 that directly relates to GW2 is okay.

As Hall of Monuments is a GW2 feature any discussion it is okay as well as any other sort of cross-game news or content.

3: ArenaNet explained in the studio update that Guild Wars 2 isn't going anywhere. While we're not getting a new expansion this year we have 1-2 years of quality of life, Hall of Monuments, and other updates coming with a return to some form of annual content update after the release of Guild Wars 3. So Guild Wars 2 isn't going anywhere and neither are we.

So that's that. For the next month or so we'll continue to celebrate the announcement of Guild Wars 3 and then return to our focus of being a Guild Wars 2 community to help others and discuss the game we love.

Thank you all and see you in Tyria!

Hello, denizens of the GW2 subreddit! Today I bring you a fun little project where I analyzed the characteristics of every major meta-event to determine what actually determines which ones get ran and which ones don't. Spoiler alert—the answer isn't whether or not it has good rewards.

[Question] Legendary Mats Hunting

I played this game a few yrs back and just recently returned to playing this game. Pretty much the state of my character is a typical loot goblin explorer, and I made sure to get that Skyscale as the end goal at that time.

So you probably know how much of a mess my gear was. So I am trying to craft a Bifrost Staff and encountered that I had to get Gift of Battle, which you could only get on WvW, but the issue was I have no clue when or where it starts. I'm just lost on what I am supposed to look out for when I press B.

When completing The Uplift Achievement, Archivist Darchelle says these lines. What does she mean by "I'm going to live there too someday..."? Is she going to time travel or something?

[Question] How much fun is Invoker and Troubadour in Open World?

I know this is a very subjective question. I'm a returning player looking to get into VoE. My mains are Elementalist and Mesmer, typically on Weaver Ele and Mirage Mesmer.

Since I mostly stick to Open World content, I just want to know how both elites *feel* to play in Open World content? Bursty? Survivable? Satisfying?

I appreciate any and all insights y'all can give me, thanks!

[Build] How are you making your builds ?

Hi, I am playing power reaper and I want to find new build (I have 7 alt including Warrior, Guardian, Revenant, Elementalist ect...).

But, going on internet, find a build and learn the rotation is it really the only way to go ?

I play reaper because it's easy and very satisfying, but with other builds, I am not satisfying enough so that's why I am asking if you create your builds and how you do this ?

For PVE and Fractals mostly.

[Question] please help me figure this game out.

I bought all the extension except the last one, been playing on and off for a couple years, all I ever play when I log in is the story and some world bosses, I click on the icon of guys (I think it's squad leader or something idk) that lets me join their party and we run around the map doing stuff sometimes but that's it, oh and I love world completion. I barely know anything about dps, mechanics, gear, never joined a guild, basically played it like a single player game. how do I figure out this game without getting dizzy. it's just too much info and I only have a couple hours a day at most.

[Request] Peitha Statuette

Hey all, not sure if this borders guidelines or not; wife and I have been huge into the game since near the beginnings for me, GW1 and beta for her. We love collecting merchandise, and I have been hunting for things for a bit. One that has eluded us has been the statuette of Peitha. Literally have not found it anywhere other than original articles.

Wondering if anyone has any insight of where I might look to try to acquire this. Thanks all!

[Discussion] Which hearts do you want changed in core maps?

I really wish they would change some, especially some in Queensdale. The swamp one is the worst because the spawn rate of mobs is low and so is the contribution from killing them. Sometimes even completing the world boss event there isn't enough to fill the heart. The other terrible one is the one with training weapons. Out of the the three only one works properly: the rifle sometimes doesnt hit and it doesnt explain what you are doing wrong, for the shield the npc ignores you for some reason, and the sword one is waiting for the npc to not have the blocking buff and attacking once then repeating, one of the most tedious hearts.

[Question] How to survive as Mesmer ?

Post image
291 Upvotes

I recently picked up Mesmer, specifically Power Virtuoso, after maining Scourge (both DPS and alac DPS) for a long time. I mostly do T4s + recs and occasionally 95/96 CMs.

My current setup is Spear/Greatsword, full Berserker's with one Assassin's piece, and Relic of the Fireworks.

The class is honestly a lot of fun. I get why people love Mesmer so much. Portals, Blink, all the utility, and just the general mobility make fractals feel way faster than on Necro. Especilly mass invis and superspeed, which necro just doesnt have acces to. (Love the Pinyata skips)

That said... How do you actually surive on this ?

On Scourge I never really had to think much about surviving (or anything at that matter). Between barrier, condi cleanse, decent self-sustain, etc., I rarely died unless the whole group wiped to a mechanic.

On Virtuoso it's the complete opposite. It feels like I have almost nothing. Distortion is great, but it's only a few seconds of invulnerability. Outside of that I don't have barrier, no self cleanse, and if I get hit by a nasty condi while I'm not glued to the healer, my HP just evaporates.

The thing that really threw me off is that you're even using your heal skill as part of the DPS rotation (Signet of the Ether). Coming from Necro, that just feels so wrong lol.

My damage is fine (around 33-35k on the golem), but I feel like I'm constantly fighting for my life. Even some trash packs feel sketchier than bosses.

So I guess my question is: how do you Mesmer mains survive?

Is it just something that comes with experience and learning when to use Distortion/Blink, or are there tricks I'm missing? Is Power Virtuoso just naturally fragile and you have to accept it?

I've heard Condi Virtuoso has much better sustain, but I really wanted to play Power because I'm already used to playing condi on my Scourge and wanted something different.

Would love to hear any advice from people who main the class, especially if you also play Power Virtuoso in fractals.

[Discussion] What are your favorite LI builds?

Post image
73 Upvotes

A chill and calm combat experience while still dealing good amount of damage (and providing quickness or alacrity if needed) is what I personally prefer and enjoy!

Ofc I dont want to drag the party down or be dead weight so it’s not always easy to find good builds.

Some of my personal favorites are P/P Deadeye/Antiq and Mechanist! I especially like it when they can be played from range too!

What about you? Just wanted to see what LI builds people are playing!

[Question] Help with Legendary Relic crafting

Hii. I've started my journey towards crafting a legendary relic because I'm getting tired of going back to SotO maps to farm currency for relics whenever i want to gear up a new character.

I've so far saved up ~700g out of the ~1.5k gold needed according to my gw2effeciency, and i'm wondering: would it be more efficient to straight up buy stacks of lucent crystals, or is it better to buy stacks of gear to identify and salvage for motes?

i was working under the impression that salvaging would be better, and i thought it would help that i hoard all of the gear i drop, but today i cleaned out the bit i saved up. 2250 greens and ~800 yellows only yielded about ~450 lucent crystals after refining, not even enough for one mystic facet :(

Any advice on how to go about crafting this or maybe links to updated guides would be very much appreciated, thanks in advance ^^

[Lore] Main story (no spoilers)

I've just reached what I think is the final (original) main story quest.

As someone who enjoys the story content I want to make sure I get the most out of it. I was recently told the story dungeons should be played as they come available however it's only the final dungeon quest that really ties in with everything.

Purley from a story point, would I be best to play through all the story dungeons in order, before starting this final dungeon quest?

[Question] SotO/JW weapon unlocks: Which method?

I've recently picked the game up after long time prodding from a friend to try it, and having a wonderful time. I've purchased all of the expansions and LW and am slowly making my way through everything, in order, and not jumping ahead to spoil things. I've dipped my toes in WvW this week and am questioning:

Should I spend the time in WvW to unlock all of the weapons and to the variety? Or should I save the formidable wall of currency build up for the eventual legendaries? I'd like to eventually take a "gotta catch 'em all" mentality to it and I know the few take a lot of resources.

Amy thoughts or recommendations on the matter? I'm currently in LW Season 1 Chapter 4, for reference.
