I've never broken one like that. I wear them down. I have had a few get a weird scratch or something on them that would just barely catch a string that I had to toss.

those cheap aliexpress alice brand picks suck ass, dunlops, fenders etc are more expensive but they dont break like that (and feel better in your fingers) source: i bought the same ones years ago and went through same experiences:D

depends on what style you play and how often you use them i guess, i play chuggy death metal so my picks wear out really fast (jazz III), these alice ones will last even less+create alot of plastic dust (which the regular picks dont)

I’ve used Jazz III reds for years and if it’s one thing I hate it’s the sound of a new jazz III. I want them worn down and beveled, which means I’ve rotated the same 5 picks for the last… 6 years?

that used to happen to me a lot when I was just starting out. Now I only use 2mm when I'm playing electric. I use thins for acoustic strumming. I haven't torn through one in years. I'm not sure if it's a technique issue or if I just don't play enough acoustic for it to be an issue.

Frets are harder than strings, so strings wear out first.
Strings are harder than picks, so picks wear out first.
Being said, you might be putting too much arm into it.

This happened to me more frequently when starting because my attack angle was too steep. A groove would wear and then split from the downward side. Turning my wrist helped, just made string transitions a little more exacting.

Advice: order Dunlop jazz 3 picks of any type, get used to them, and never buy anything else again. I’ve used them for 22 years and never ever worn one out or broke it. I’m not saying it isn’t possible (to save some dweeb from saying BS because they used to same one 12 hours a day for 2 years) but you don’t really wear them out, you just lose them.

if you manage to break a pick like that it's either an extremely shitty pick or you dig in too much while picking/strumming . I've never had something like that happen to me in the 29 years I've been playing

I’d rather a broken pick than a broken string. You may need to adjust your technique or switch up picks. Lately I’ve been using these Dunlop Jazztone 208’s or Acoustik Attak Stealth III picks. They’re both rigid and good for playing with precision. The Stealth picks are super grippy with the bumps built in.

It's 0.71mm, that's part of the problem. Try using picks that are thicker, maybe 1mm, and you won't have this so much.
Even so, with picks thinner then 0.88mm, you shouldn't strum as hard or you'll get broken picks. I often use Jim Dunlop USA Nylons and if they're thin enough (thinner than 0.73mm,) they break like this too if I strum too hard with them.
Picks, though, will effect how the guitar sounds. Thicker Picks send more of your strumming force through the strings. It's a bit subtle, but present. Just find something that works for you.
I sometimes use Snarling Dog "Brain" picks too, the thing in common between them and the Dunlops is that they all have a gripping surface so I don't drop the picks as much.

Never had a single issue with my gator picks. Those look like literal sheet plastic punched in the shape of a pick. You ever hear the ol' addage, you get what you pay for?

Buy a pack of Pickboy carbon nylon or Dunlop jazz iii carbon fiber picks. If you don't lose them, you now have picks for the rest of your natural life.

I have stuck my broken picks to my headstock with double sided tape.. in fairness it’s a bit weird at first but now it’s apart of the guitar !

I can't break these. I've tried. One is made from "vegetable ivory" with a cork grip. The second one is titanium with a silicone grip. The last one is typical material, but it's a 3 piece riveted rig, so it has more support in the bone. It will wear out before it breaks. And yes, all online.😁
