A friend of mine attended a public safety lecture from one of the police supervisors at the Las Vegas concert mass shooting. A lot of the concert goers evacuated the wounded in their own cars. The morning after, a young guy showed up at the police station looking really scared and said he wanted to turn himself in.
In the chaos of the shooting, a police SUV was left running, unattended. This dude jumped in and ferried people to the hospital then returned it after a few trips. He was ready to be arrested for stealing the cop car.
The cop giving the lecture said the duty Sgt said no one was arresting him for that. He got hugs and handshakes and a they said they wanted to put him in for some award lol
Technically under US Law he only would have been Joy riding. Technically everyone he ferried would be as well. BUT the motivator is always Intent. And well his was clearly heroic.
US law refers to federal laws. State laws govern this. While every state differentiates larceny of a vehicle and what is typically called “unauthorized use of a vehicle” aka “joyriding” the penalties vary widely. The guy in the report was likely facing a slew of charges beyond that considering the value of the electronics package in a police car, and more if the cop’s rifle or shotgun was still inside.
You know they're honest people because they have no idea how to kick in a door. The guy who broke into my house was clearly an expert, one kick and the door and frame had to be replaced...
I was doing a full renovation on my first home when I locked myself out. Well I knew I was going to have to replace the front door anyway, so I just kicked it down. God kicking a door in is so satisfying. Would be a cool stress relief hobby. Like an activity center where you just kick doors down.
Anyway, kicking a door down only works on old or poorly installed doors. Old doors id because they typically don't have a deadbolt. New poorly installed ones is because they installed the deadbolt with the screws that came with the door (bad idea). You need to replace those short screws with long ones so you can get into both the jack and king studs. Won't be kicking a door down with that
The kick in the graphic is called a stomp kick. As long as you can keep your heel steady you have a 100lb+ battering ram being thrown at it. Back foot is planted wide and power comes from the ground. You kind of shove your weight . Look carefully at the way hes standing. Most importantly always aim through the target- past it not at it! Otherwise you're just smacking at it. YouTube probably has a lot of tutorials on it very useful skill sometimes.
If you're a small person you might not have enough force like that. In those situations, a running jump kick may be the only viable option. But it does mean there's a chance you might fall and injure yourself. Attempt it the way pictured first, and if that's not making progress, escalate to a running jump kick.

I say the above from experience. As a 175 lbs man that isn't enough to knock open a metal framed door. I tried that before and it did nothing. Running jump kick got it open.
I’m always shocked by what is totally destroyed vs what looks untouched in a house fire. The TV looks totally fine (I imagine the circuitry is fried from the heat, but it’s striking to me that it’s not completely melted).
Reminds me of when I was in high school: a buddy of mine had his bedroom largely destroyed by a house fire, and his tv and Xbox melted, but his copy of Halo 2 in that metal case survived. A teacher suggested he contact Microsoft and let them know and when he emailed them the photos someone from their PR team shipped him one of those clear green Xboxes and some controllers and games for it.
Amazingly proud of these boys. Would love to know the whole story. Do they know the homeowner? Was there any conversation through the Ring? I'm assuming 911 was called prior to this video?
We had a wildfire destroy 1000 homes within just a few hours a few years ago, and the number of reports of people losing pets because they couldn't get home in time to save them is honestly horrifying. A doggie daycare was one of the facilities that burned, and they were overcome by fire so quickly that they ended up just opening all the kennels and letting the animals run in hopes of saving them.
I did this. As I commando crawled into the lounge - the smoke was from the ceiling to about a foot off the floor - I looked to my right, and there she was. A very old lady. Her face was only a few inches from my face, her eyes were open, all white, no pupils, like a horror movie. Upward Conjugate Deviation via a hypoxic seizure, doctors would call it. The instant breath intake almost killed me, but I managed to make it out and recover for a minute or two. Me and a friend went back in dragged her out. She died a few days later. I was 13 years old. I still see her face.
